Homebirth general discussion #8

I wa really introverted during this pregnancy. I just needed to get the job done and not hype it up with ppl. I just really didn't want to discuss my pregnancy or birth with anyone really.

I figured I'd better jump in on this thread, or I'm going to miss the upcoming births. :)

Obviously whoever did that show on waterbirth has NEVER seen or had one! Every mother who's done one that I know of has loved it!

I just found my m/w on FB and discovered she knows a friend of mine who I've known since high school (who's also a m/w, but I forgot about that). I assume they must have worked together when my friend lived in Sydney. Still - small world!

Hot1 - how's the babymoon?

Wow! My highly mobile (unstable lie) baby boy knew the right position to be in when he made his way into the world. We only just made it into the pool before he arrived, and i was able to breathe him out with little injury. DH didn't even know we were close, and then i was bringing a baby up out of the water. He is a healthy little boy with everything in the right place. The placenta took a LONG time to come out (longer than the labour :lol:), and i am so glad to have had the expertise of my midwife. He is a big boy, i think i am embarassed to say how big, but weight and head circumference are above 98th percentile. We weren't expecting him to be that big (another reason i am glad i was at home, and didn't have ultrasound towards the end) but he is quite in proportion so doesn't look huge to me. He is feeding well, after sleeping off the birth. DD is quite smitten, although sometimes she squeezes him cos she thinks its funny when he squirms. And she roars to wake him up.

* unstable lie is the medical way of describing when the baby has lots of room to move, and changes position often at the end of the pregnancy.

Yay Hot1!! You should be proud that you baked and birthed a big baby so well! You're a birthing goddess by the sound of it. If you feel like it, there's no need to be embarrassed in here!

Rest up, it sounds like you deserve it. And I hear you on the placenta, I pushed the baby out in the same time as it took to get the placenta out! Completely psychological in my case, I so didn't want to do anything more.

I'm so thrilled for you hoti! You created such an amazing birth environment and I'm just so glad you were able to have this empowered, respectful experience.

I think bigger babies are better! Why would you be embarrassed? Don't be! Just goes to show how perfectly baked he was and how wonderful it was you were able to just breath him out. I wanna know his size now :lol:

I hated birthing the placenta- I found the back pain "contractions" I got with that were worse than labour... I think it was mostly psychological though as Jennifer said as I couldn't be bothered with it- I had my baby now. Lucky for me it took much less than my hugely long 2nd stage though.

My m/w calls it the rude placenta. ;)
