Great news loulabelle! Bring on baby now!
HotI that's so sad about your friend. And of course people then use those examples to say how dangerous birth is.
We got ds hearing done at Melbourne uni school of audiology. It's free and they were so nice. Bub has to be asleep, so prob do it when older child is being looked after. Speaking of which, where are you based? Can I come and take your dd to the park for you? You sound like you need more help.
thanks guys. its very exciting. I just went out and got gorgeous fabric to cover the window in the bathroom incase it happens in the day time. for some reason in my head I want it dark with some candles. maybe its because of this bright hospital lights of my previous births.
hotI, I'm so sorry about your friend. have you had anymore news as to how she's going?

I took DD2 up to the hospital for her hearing test last week. She had to be settled, not necessarily asleep, but still so the monitors worked. It only took a couple of minutes as she gazed at me.
Loulabelle - woohoo on the pool being set up!!
We had our son's hearing test done at the Mercy in Heidelberg. That lady was the least interested of anyone I came across about our homebirth. She spent ages looking for his hospital records before telling us that's what she was looking for and didn't ask anything about it when we said he was born at home... I think she thought he was "born before arrival" at first because she still couldn't understand why he didn't have hospital records
Meow, that sucks. Our lady was lovely and very happy to accommodate the administrative issues (and yes, she asked about the birth too). It's always surprising how many forms are not designed for HB. I feel like writing to the health minister about it! Only the birth registration form didn't ask for 'hospital'. Baby's health record did though.
Hmmm, I think I might send an email, what with HB on the rise and all! ;)
When I took ds to have his hearing test at the hospital I noticed my file had a hot pink post it note on the front saying home birth (talk about confidentiality). Then they said he was jaundice (all mine look terrible when they are born - DHs not so lively skin type). She did the light gun test three times, I kept saying he was happy, alert, feeding well , wet nappies. That he looked yellow but he was ok. She said I had to go wait for a dr to see my baby before I could go home. I pointed out that not in fact I could leave anytime I liked and I was choosing to get a hearing test done not a jaundice test! She said she would make a complaint to docs if I didn't see a dr.
Docs never called. My DH and MW were so sorry I'd gone alone.
Great health system.
Oh tegam!!! Oh that is terrible! Don't u hate that sort of treatment! A friend of a gf of mine just had a breech vbac, but they tried to make her have a court ordered c/s and called docs when she refused to consent. Apparently the maternity coalition had to get involved and that was what stopped them. However that poor mum..... She had had terrible reactions to the anesthetics when she had her first c/s and nearly died. That being said, I was on a forum she was in, where she related having told the MW who was trying to talk her into a repeat c/s, that she would stick a knife into anyone who tried to cut her open again...... She seemed like a very aggressive person and I doubt she either laid low or got the staff onside :(. Still I think they had no rights to try to force anything on a mum.
When I had maddies hearing test done, she was in a wrap and they just did it so quickly without trying to get me to get her out. And when I told about my hb, she mentioned she lived next to a mum who hb'd and it turned out to be a gf of mine:). Small world hey!
OMG Tegam! How awful! I can't believe she threatened to call docs! Because all home birth mother's a selfish hippies with no concern for their babies I guess. Grrr...
I can't imagine facing a court ordered birth Bella. These stories are terrible!
Apparently a baby had just died of jaundice in the area so I guess I sort of understood. But I am a nicu nurse. I'd probably seen more jaundice than they had ever seen. And as if I was going to risk my baby!!!
I forgot u were a nurse tegam :). Funny how so many nurses have hb'd these days :)
Try explaining to families in nicu and post natal why I chose to Hb! Lol
far out, tegam. that's pretty awful treatment. seriously, if anything was wrong you were going to know about it. it's what your trained to do! I'm hoping I don't have to experience any of that type of thing.

Same here tegam. DH is a consultant in emergency, lol! And I am an emergency nurse. Surprisingly most ppl have been supportive and if not, they have been polite. Mind u sometimes I think that they miss the point when they congratulate me on getting my "experience". Like as if it wasn't just about coming out of this birth not devistated, if that makes sense. I just wanted us both to be well this time, not JUST my baby. Oh well.
just thinking of you Loulabelle. Just realised I haven't seen u in here for a day or so. I haven't stalked u properly, so you could be commenting elsewhere. Anyway, either way, I am thinking of you. Whether you are labouring or not, whether you have birthed or are preparing to birth. I wish you peace and serenity. I wish for you some personal nourishment and pampering if you are waiting. I hope you have people around you who are honouring your gravid state. Many blessings babe
xx Bella
You are in my thoughts too Loulabelle.
Wishing you a peaceful and joyous birth as you welcome your precious bub into your arms and home. May you be surrounded by love and support (and all that ice you've been making!).
Love and light xx
Hoping all is well Loulabelle! Can't wait to see another home birth announcement. :)
naww, thankyou for the posts! I love how loving and supportive this thread is.
thought things were starting last night but it fizzled out after about an hour. I have my bb friend sammiejane flying over from Melbourne on Thursday and she's here until the 3rd, It would be fantastic if she could make the birth, she'd be an awesome support.
just a tmi question because I don't remember if it happened last time or not, but did any of you get achy done below before labour?
Sent from my GT-S5570 using Tapatalk
Loulabelle. I almost jumped out of my skin when I saw you had posted. Yay for pre labour. I never got it but I have seen a lot of women in labour and a lot have pimples on their bum :)
Happy birthing beautiful lady !
ooh, i hope sammiejane makes it!
yep, to your TMI qu.
Hmmm I seem to remember that heavy feeling that I sometimes got before my period being there the day before. I lost my plug the two days before labour started. That was what told me labour was eminent.
My DS was born on Tues morn. On the Sunday, I lost pieces of my plug throughout the day. On Monday morning I woke up feeling really heavy in the pelvic region- it was uncomfortable to walk. On Monday arvo I started getting mild cramps and on Monday night, I had blood tinged mucous. Less than 5 hours later, DS was born.
Also, I am interested to know when everyone's milk came in after their homebirths and in comparison to their non-home births. This time, my milk came in 48 hours after the birth. That's the quickest it has happened for me.
Milk was in after 48 hrs this time. Not much longer than my c/s where it was about 60 hrs.
Hmmm I've had four can I be forgiven for not remembering when my milk came in??? Lol no idea. But never long ;)
Ash, I was bang on 72 hrs after my c/s and more than a day earlier this time. I think my colostrum had started to change earlier than that too.
Now where is loulabelle?? I'm hoping for news or at least some conversation! I'm hoping you are enjoying some beautiful newborn snuggles.
How is everyone else? I'm looking forward to some good HBing talk next week, with a MHCN visit on Mon, HB get together on Thurs and then I go to my GP the following Mon, who was so supportive of me having a HB. I can't wait to see her and tell her she was right to tell me it was a good thing to do and show her the result!
(As an aside, I'm going to the GP for DD2's 2 mth vax. :o Where is the time going??)
I'm here and still pregnant. woken up a few times over night with period type pain and its still here now. its nothing timeable though but uncomfortable enough that I had some panadol just then. maybe pre labour or maybe early labour. trying my hardest not to over think it because ill end up going crazy. just relax, Laura! it probably is just pre labour. kids are in cc today so I think I'm going to have a nice relaxing day just relaxing and setting up the house.
yay Jen, sounds like a lovely week you've got. I know I'm going to be the same with wanting to talk about it. I was with dd and she wasnt even a hb, just because the labour was so much better than my experience with Ds. have a lovely time at your hb meet.
and 2 months!!! far out!!

I had a long round of prelabour with my third baby too. :( It really stinks to go through - emotionally and physically so tiring! But, you can remind yourself that every contraction is doing something - even if it's not the "real thing" it will help to get your baby in place and get your body ready. When real labour starts, it will probably be fairly quick.
Rest when you can and distract yourself! Plan some nice things to do - pedicure, manicure, massage, hair cut, new book, lunch with friends, knit or crochet or paint or sew something for baby, design a birth announcement.... whatever. :)
Good luck Loulabelle hopefully this is the start of it. Enjoy your relaxing day.
Sending you many birth blessings Loulabelle xx I am totally jealous that you are where you are right now, about to have a new baby...at home!!
Good to hear from you, Loulabelle. As my m/w said to me, try to ignore it and get on with your day (and night). It's all doing what it should be and your body is birthing as it should. It won't be long until you meet your little one!
I reckon all my early labour got me to at least 4 cms before things kicked up. Also worked beautifully to help my baby into a perfect position. So it's all useful, if not intense. Plus, you're already a birthing pro. ;)
Things are going so well here. Maybe I should whisper this, but DD2 is a fantastic night time sleeper. Refuses to be put down to sleep during the day and has a lot of awake time (all the interruptions with DD1 and school, for starters), but come 7pm she is ready for final cuddles and then into her hammock. She does wake up at some point after I go to bed, but it's a quick feed and snuggle in with me to cosleep until after 7am. :o
So I'm getting very into babywearing during the day and sending prayers of thanks for my evenings and nights!
If this keeps up I probably can talk DP into another in a few years! It must sound so weird to others, but you HBers understand how excited I would be to give birth again!
I watched the preview for the Face of Birth doco tonight. I'm going along to the premiere in two weeks. I started crying watching the women interviewed talking about how empowering and joyous their homebirths were. I concurred with every word!
I am hoping to go to the premiere too, with bub. My MW is organising the screening in my town. I am sure I will cry. As long as bub doesn't!
morning everyone.
I'm thinking that we have some action! contractions about 10 mins apart and starting to be too uncomfortable to lie down. lots of blood tinged stuff etc. excited and scared at the same time! hopefully ill be back some time today with a ba.
