oh em, that's not good. glad all is ok now. that must have been very scary for you.xxxx
bella- love it! love that your neighbor was actually timing them too. I've been quite noisy in my last two labours so I imagine ill be the same.

Yeah louloubelle, that is what I found so interesting about it! That she was obviously very interested in what was going on. Which is what makes me both kinda celebrate that it was a real community event and that some of the women in my street got to be apart of it even in a really vague way. Dd went next door for a bath with her doula and so they knew about it. The whole street other than our elderly next door neighbors knew. So when they saw all the cars arrive, they told me later, they all knew and were very excited about it. Kinda cool really. None of them are hb families. They are just our community and were excited for us.
oh bella that is similar to what happened for us lol. i was in labour and decided to go for a walk, everyone knew we were having baby at home, so when we bumped into various neighbours on our walk we told them that she might be arriving that day! it was so lovely! and fortuitious as we scored a whole bunch of hot meals a few hours later  i even had the old italian lady (80 years old) come over and cuddle me and DD2 in bed a few hours later...she was so overjoyed, and, yeah, like you said, it brought a real sense of community, that in a way, they were part of it IYKWIM.
That's lovely, Cassius!
Thinking of Ash and Loulabelle ... Happy birthing vibes!
I had my last m/w visit today. :( she was here for over two hours and had lunch. Bub is now over 4.5 kgs and has grown 8 cm, so she's jumped up to completely average sized from her small beginnings. She won't get weighed much from here because I'm slack. Lol Everything's good with me, back where it should be.
She gave me a copy of her article on high risk HBs so I'm going to have a good read now.
thanks Jen xxx that's fantastic gain for your dd! how are you feeling about it being the last appointment?
bella and cassius- I love it! I wish I could get that here bit we don't know any neighbors yet. also, I don't even know if which house ill birth in, we move Thursday!
finally started rlt and epo, kept forgetting so it probably won't be of all that much benefit by the time labour comes. I was going to insert epo, but (tmi !) when I went to I discovered I was somewhat open down there so decided to just take orally instead. pretty exciting even though it really means nothing at all as to when this baby will come.

Thanks for asking Loulabelle, I'm a little sad that this birthing journey is officially over, but I still get to see my lovely m/ws every month at our get togethers. So my HB activities aren't done!
There's going to be a premiere screening of the doco The Face of Birth in Parramatta next mth and I'm going along. It's Australia's version of the Business of Being Born.
Loulabelle it sounds like it won't be long! Maybe baby is waiting until you've moved.
Hi all!
My precious bub is here! A beautiful boy! A glorious waterbirth at home. Labour was just under 3 hours; born at 2.07am. No tearing. He is a big bub for me- 4.26kg. All is well. My DD was at the birth, and she cut the cord. She also took some beautiful birth photos. My sons slept through the birth.
Thank you to everyone who encouraged me to have a waterbirth- it was amazing. I found it easier to relax between contractions. And I was able to stay comfortable and supported in positions that would have tired me on land.
Best Valentine's gift ever!
congratulations ash! born on edd too. so very happy that all went well. yay! can't wait to hear more. enjoy those newborn snuggles! well done.xxxxx

What a great valentines day gift!
Oh Ash!!! I'm so thrilled to hear your wonderful news! Welcome to the world to your beautiful little boy. How glorious :loveshower:
I'm so glad you tried a water birth and loved it! I found the pool infinitely more soothing and comfy than a land birth and I was adamant I had wanted the land birth but I was obviously clueless
Looking forward to hearing more and what you decide to name him. Enjoy your love day snuggles mama xx
Jen- I also realised today that I could see your photos!! SO gorgeous! Thanks for sharing :D

Now it is Loulabelles turn to have her baby next :loveshower:
I am loving how busy and full of mama's planning HBs this thread is getting! when i joined only a year and a half ago we were on thread #1 i think  it is getting there now! woo hoo!
Good morning! I thought I would pop in here while my gorgeous boy is asleep on my chest.
THANK YOU everyone, for your beautiful, heartfelt words. They made me smile, and then get teary! It is so lovely to connect with women who know how special homebirth is. To connect with women who understand that we make these choices for the well being of our babies and ourselves - not because we are selfish, risk-takers who care more about our own 'experiencies' than our babies lives.
I am in the process of writing my birth story- there is the struggle between wanting to write it while the memory is strong AND wanting to abandon intellectual pursuits so that I can just relish the early hours and days with my newborn. I have only had about 3 hours sleep since his birth, but I am still powered by endorphins, I think! He Who Is Yet To Be Named breastfeeds almost constantly, and I am looking forward to my milk arriving.
Thinking of you Loulabelle xx
Much love to everyone.
Great to hear from you Ash! Sounds like he knows what he's doing! What do the other kids think of him?
IKWYM about wanting to write it down while it's still fresh (did you get any photos?). I ended up using my m/ws notes to help get everything in order because I took a few weeks.
Cassius - I love that it's busy in here too, I wish it was even busier!
The Mumma I borrowed the birth pool rang today and wanted to hear all about it. Her DD wasn't born in the pool, but she laboured in it (her perineum wouldn't stretch and the m/w ended up doing an episiotomy and her DD was born in the kitchen instead). So she was very glad our bub was born in the pool. Now I can send her the pool (she needed to give me her new address). :( bye, bye pool!
My baby was born in the pool in the kitchen!
DD was given a book about being a big sister, and it says something about wanting to send the baby back to the hospital. We were joking we would have to change it to send him back to the kitchen.
lol hotI! get back in the kitchen, baby!
wonderful to hear from you ,ash. sounds like everything is going wonderfully. I can't wait for that hormonal high!
I also love how busy it is in here. although I've only joined in the past 9 months, I've always stalked. hoping we get some more in here over the next few months.
afm, doing well and keeping busy with the packing. thankfully the move is tomorrow so I can get my birth space all set up tomorrow night. mw visit yesterday. baby is as low as it can go but, mw and myself don't think ill go into labour until everything is in place. I think my physical body is ready but I'm not ready itms. things don't feel in place yet. I do feel as though the fear I had about coping is gone though, its just that I don't have my safe place yet.

Hahaha hotI! That is funny :). We would have to send Madeleine back to the bedroom, but kitchen sounds better!!
Thinking of you Loulabelle :) I feel for you moving, and hope you get everything sorted very soon so you can feel safe and have your precious bundle in your arms
Haha Hot1, well since we're handing back the pool I guess DD2 has no place to go! Can't wait to shock dinner guests in future by telling them she was born in the dining room. ;)
Loulabelle my m/w says babies often wait until everything is ready. My bet is a weekend baby for you!
Yep, I am with Jennifer that I reckon this baby will come when you find your safe place. my bet is once you are in the new place and have your birth place set up
Jennifer: i love freaking people out by telling them that they are sitting roughly where DD2 was born hahahahaha! they kind of smile with this panicked look in their eyes bahahahahahaha!
Arcadia: oh yes, consider a waterbirth next time :) i love the cocoon feeling of them...

Great interview with an ob in the US who had a HB.
How are you doing, Loulabelle?
thanks for posting Jen. how refreshing to read!
I'm absolutely exhausted! I can't believe how much I've done today. all that's left to do is clean out the fridge and I've done half that already. removalist should be here any minute. I'm glad its almost done. can't wait to be in the new house tonight and finally relax! bit of pre labour happening last night and today, I imagine its because I've been doing so much.
hope you're all well.xxx

Don't work too hard, Loulabelle! Sounds like you need a couple of days to settle in and rest now. ;)
The funniest thing about that article is that I was talking to my m/w on Monday and she said she once received a bit of a grilling from someone who asked her where she would have her baby (she doesn't have any kids yet) and she gave them a strange look and said "at home, of course". She said it was like they thought she was enjoying torturing these stupid women who have their babies at home when there was no way she'd put herself though a home birth. Weird, but I couldn't help giggling thinking that no homebirth midwife would be booking themselves in for an elective c/s, when here is an ob choosing the homebirth option!
I went to my postnatal exercise class at the private hospital physio today and the physio taking it is the one I have known for years (took my prenatal aqua classes for DD1). She was so excited to hear about my HB experience as she says she spends a lot of time trying to educate women so they don't take the medicalised approach that's pushed by the hospital. She says she thinks even if she convinces one woman in her entire career then she'll be happy and asked me if it would be okay if she told the class about my fantastic birth experience.
I love the chance to talk about my birth and hearing someone else say they wish everyone could have a similar experience just makes my day!
Don't you feel like you're walking around with this piece of knowledge that it seems hardly anyone else has?
Jen I couldn't help myself today. I went shopping and everytime a woman started a conversation with me about Maddie in her wrap I proudly boasted about my hb. I love spreading the good story. I love telling how wonderful it can be!! Yay for us!! Yay for me!!
And, Yay for you Loulabelle!!! I can't wait for it to be your turn!! I think you will have a big sleep and then birth your baby when u r rested. Are your labours typically long or short??
A FB friend had her baby yesterday, She had posted about 'having to be induced' because she was past EDD. Today's post, the mum is in ICU. Not sure what happened, just so sad for them that their birth experience has been so medicalised and ended up in this way.
I am gettting sick of being sick. i just need to get my energy back, and then dealing with the normal stuff will be do-able. DS has colic, and possibly reflux. DD's sleep is shocking again and can't be left alone with DS cos she whacks him.
Bella, Jen- have you had the newborn hearing test done yet? we are booked in at local hospital next tues.
yeah I did HotI.. we did it yesterday :) so I told the hearing test lady all about my hb LOL!!! It was great!
guess who just set up the birth pool?! :)

Woo hoo! Now you can def have a baby now!
