Question How can I get an Ob to sign off on my homebirth?????

Well I find my little self pregnant again.....

I had found a public funded homebirthing middie (YAY, FREE!) for Sevens and then Isaiahs birth, but sadly that was not not meant to be....

But before I got too far, the local Ob here said he wouldn't LET me do it....
I sarcasticlly said to him, "Yes, my uterus will erupt and kill me if Im at home".. and he NODDED!!!!!

I have emailed this lovely middie already, ( I know, its very early!) and she said, just get the Ob to sign off... Its the same one as last time.... There is no way after 2 losses he will say yes now....

I DESPERATLY want to stay home and birth my baby, just like I did with Isaiah... But how do I change his mind???? If an out of town Ob O-Kays it, will that do?? I am more than willing to travel to get this done.....

Having such a great service here, free, and not being allowed to because I am a Grand Multi just sucks.....

get another OB to approve it. Otherwise, can you use an IM and have a private homebirth?

    btw - CONGRATULATIONS!

Congrats hun! I have no advice on the ob signing off, but I hope he doesn't give you any grief when you ask him to. Maybe try first and he will do so if he sees how committed you are? Or does he have another ob he practises with when he's away that you could see instead?

    Thanks guys....
I have just emailed her and asked if there was another Ob that might sign off instead... I'm 99.9% certain the one I normally go to will say no...

Fingers crossed I can find another one...

tashybabe, last time I checked out the middie's around here, we had no IM, just the hossy based one, and she's not allowed to take on patients not "approved" by an Ob... so damn annoying!!!

Isn't that how law works now. For an IM to be covered by insurence they need an OB (or a GP I thought) to agree to it.

Actually, isn't this one part of a hospital programme? So I guess the Mum would need approval to be a part of it.

I think for the new medical indemnity insurance to cover IMs they need a GP or ob to sign off. Not necessarily to attend the home birth, just to take advantage of the new insurance coverage. Not sure if this is in effect yet, I thought it wasn't until next year.

But for a hospital program, it may be a requirement (of that particular hospital) that an ob signs off. Nothing to do with the new insurance (although it might have something to do with the hospital's insurance coverage, not sure).

Yep, it was the same last year so its not an insurance thing...
The Middie is employed by the hossy, so an Ob has to sign off that you are a good candidate for the program.....otherwise its a no-go....
I see the Ob on Friday, and the middie next week... so fingers crossed!!!
