HI there,
Would love to hear your experiences with induction acupuncture. I've had two sessions now and nothing seems to be happening. Before I started I did have a couple of false alarms, but since starting the acupuncture nothing other than a few period like pains.
I know I've started it a little earlier than most, but my OB was happy for me to give it a go now because I apparently have a large baby with a particularly large head.
Anyway, I was just wondering if you've tried induction acupuncture, if it worked for you and how many sessions you had?
Thanks!

i found that after 2 sessions i got a bloody show. HOWEVER, i was already 10 days overdue so i dunno if it was gonna happen then anyway. they wouldnt treat me til i was 7 days overdue.. so i dunno whether i would do it again. maybe if i could have done it at due date or just over.
bump
Nope not for me and that was after 5 sessions but Im doing it this time too as I had a really good birth so if it contributed to that then Im all for it. It cant hurt anyway can it![]()
I don't think induction accupuncture will work to bring on bub before it's due
I think it's a wonderful tool to relax and recharge you. I came out of my sessions feeling so invigorated. I had my bub the next day after my last session and my labour was quick, easy and awesome![]()
Well I had an appointment with my OB yesterday and bubs still hasn't engaged. So I had another session today which was a bit more aggressive, so I'm hoping that it may do the trick or at least encourage bubs to move down. Annsam I hadn't thought about it contributing to a better labor, but now that you've pointed that out I feel a bit better about it even if it doesn't get any action happening.
i just remembered my acupuncturist left a series of small needles in my lower back to help with pain relief in labour. hmm.. it still hurt like hell, but i coped better than i did first time round.
i'll come back later and post but YES it worked for me!!
Yep it did. My bub was a due date baby! I had him after 2 sessions a week apart. I went into labour about 10min after I walked out of the session lol
Yes definitely! I had three sessions in total starting a week before I was due. But I do think it really depends on the acupuncurist. My first two sessions were at one place, didn't really feel much. But my third session was at a different place and I actually started feeling some mild contractions there. If you want to know where I went I'd be happy to PM you. They were fantastic and even sent a card when they heard my DD was born.
Well I think yesterdays session (my third) may have got some action going (or I'm hoping). I had it confirmed this morning that I have a hind water leak (but I think that started before yesterdays session). Anyway, I got my bloody show this morning while I was at the hospital being monitored! It gave me what I needed to talk them out of inducing me today and letting me have the weekend to go into spontaneous labour. So here's hoping yesterdays session continues to keep things moving and bubs and I get to have a natural labour![]()
I started my treatments at 37 weeks and at that point it was only to prepare my uterus and body for labour. I found this very relaxing and it hepled with my general aches and pains.
My acupuncturist told me at the very beginning that he couldn't make me go into labour if my body wasn't ready. Having said that, he wouldn't start 'inducing' until I was 39 1/2 weeks and I definitely felt contractions and cramping after each of my 3 sessions of induction acupuncture.
I went into labour 2 days past my EDD and it was a fast and relatively easy labour... very important for me as it was a VBAC. I think it helped and I will definitely be getting it again for any future pregnancies.
awesome news missE!!!!
can you see your accupunturist again tomorrow??
i too went into labour the day after the accup. was ramped up at 40 weeks, my waters started leaking 12 hours after, bubs born after a great labour and birth another 18 hrs later!
wishing you all the best !!
I'm not sure if its allowed on these forums but I looked up the rules and think it is (Sorry if its not!)....
Anyway, can anyone recommend someone that specialises in acupuncture in pregnancy in Melbourne around Oakleigh/Bentleigh area? If nothing I can try the BellyBelly Pregnancy Centre but its half an hr away in good traffic which I think might be a bit hard to negotiate with the kids.... (as in I'll be asking someone to watch them for me for over 2 hrs for a 1 hr appt)
Thanks
I've pm'd you![]()
I had never tried acupuncture until yesterday when I hit the 40 week mark. It was fantastic and even if it doesn't get things moving I felt so relaxed afterwards and she gave me some tips to help me sleep. I have another session on Monday, wish I could go all the time.
