    Question Solids Question

I have started solids at 4 months due to the fact she has doubled her weight, was needing BFs every 2 hours and waking 3 or 4 times during the night (she was sleeping mostly through the nights before). However I have started solids since 26 Oct and she was doing great for a few weeks. Now she open her mouths when put a small mouthful of food in and keeps it open (and smiles) and doesn't try to swallow. Then usually coughs it all over me or spits it out! Is this normal or should I be alarmed?

I wouldn't be alarmed at all hun. It might be though that she really doesn't want the food yet, in which case it wouldn't hurt to try going a few days without food to see how she reacts. Have you found that she's sleeping better at night now? If not, then that might also be a sign that the waking was not due to needing food. Just a thought hun. But whatever you decide, stay calm when she spits it out, and don't react. It is so easy to react just once, which then encourages the behaviour for months. GL.

    Hi,

sounds completely normal to me! At this age, if solids are started, they are more for fun and experimentation than nutrition. It sounds like she is having plenty of fun! One of life's lessons for parents is that you can't "make" a baby eat. You can offer them food but....
BTW, it's completely normal for babies to double their birthweight between 4-6 mnths, and have an average of 11 breastfeeds per day - anywhere from 6-16! It sounds like you are doing a great job
