    When to replace breastmilk??

My "above average size" 9 month old has self-weaned from 7 breastfeeds a day down to 4 now and I'm wondering at what point do I need to introduce a breastmilk alternative?
He eats 3 to 4 solid meals a day & also drinks water willingly.
I'm not really keen on the idea of formula (being artificial etc) so is there an organic non GMO formula at all? I plan on giving him organic dairy milk once he's 12mths but I'm not in a hurry to do that sooner.
    Any advice would be super!
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,

You don't need to give anything other than food and breastmilk. 4 feeds per day or even 3 or 2 is fine for a baby this age.

No need for formula! Sounds like he is doing well so just keep doing what you are doing

My older boys self weaned at around 12 months and I just gave them cows milk. They get enough nutrients from their food by that age there is no need for the toddler formulas either!

Ditto to the above posts, sounds like he's doing everything right. No need to introduce a "beastmilk alternative" especially since he is having such a healthy diet already and the only milk he needs is BB milk which you seem to be supplying just fine. It's very normal to drop a few feeds when solids are introduced, My DS is 13 months old and varies between 2 and 4 breastfeeds a day depending on his needs. He also has ordinary cows milk, Toddler formula's are unneccessary for a child having a healthy diet.

Hi Dragonfly, if you do want to give him formula there is a really good one available which we use called Bellamys. It comes in stage 1, 2 and 3 and is organic and non GMO. We now mix it with the organic cows milk as we are weaning my DS onto cows milk. It's available from any good supermarket (both Safeway and Coles), its in a white tin with a blue lid. We had problems with other brands but this has been a winner for us and so far we've not had any probs getting the amount of formaula down and regular milk up. We are now up to 150mls of formula topped up to 250 with the organic cows milk, so far so good. I've taken it really slowly though as I din't want my boy to reject the milk, soon we will be all cows milk and the formula will be gone yay!!

Thanks for all the replies. It's a great help.
