This is probably more of a vent than anything else, but any shared experiences would be welcome.
DD (almost 8 months) was exclusively breastfed for 6 months. At 6.5 months I let her try some scrambled egg. She broke out in a rash all over her face and hands and became suddenly tired and irritable. I gave her a bath, put her down for a nap and by the time she woke up she was back to normal. Two weeks ago I tried her with yoghurt. She didn't care for it much (no surprise really since I don't eat it much myself) so I haven't pushed it.
Tonight I let her have some milk and she broke out in a rash. It started around her mouth and chin and then spread down to her neck and chest. She also had a few red spots on her tummy which she was scratching at. She was also rubbing her face a lot, partly because she was tired, but I think she was also a little itchy. Part of her bottom lip also swelled slightly.
There are no known allergies in either DH's family or mine. I do get eczema (or dermatitis...whichever is the non-allergy one) but only mildly. I don't understand how she could possibly have any allergies. Maybe one but reactions to both egg and dairy?! Just as well I have no intention of trying nuts anytime soon, we might score the trifecta. She was very unsettled as a young bub and now I'm wondering if it was a dairy allergy all along. I was actually craving dairy for the first few months of bfing and didn't consider trying to eliminate it.
I'm hoping she'll grow out of it. Should I leave it for a couple of weeks (or months) and then try again? Maybe I need to consult a nutritionist.
