when we renewed our lease this year our stupid RE agent put the rent up by $30 a week, i burst into tears when i got the letter, but its was so much easier to just sign and pay that then to have to look for another place which would cost about he same anyway, or close to... A.holes!
We rent our place off a guy that DP works with and in August they sent us a rent renewal and a letter stating they were putting our rent up $10 which i understand isnt much, so DP contacted the owner and he had no idea about the rent rise he contacted the real estate and gave them his notice to stop renting the house through them. So after Christmas we'll be paying our rent straight to the owner unless he finds another real estate.
There's not alot on the rental market, i wanted to move before the baby is here as we're living in a huge house and not very close to shops, but DP said we'd stay here for a bit after the baby is born.
i guess i am really lucky, i have a big 3x1 1km from the beach in rockingham for $200 a week... so many other people applied for this house (about 20 from what im told) but i begged and pleaded and rang up at least once a day... and they gave it to me :) I also got great ref's, (church minister) and my mums boyfriend said i was his office girl (little white lie, "Girl Friday i think he referred to me as...) and i was a clean freak, and meticulous to detail. It must have swayed them... :)
Good luck girlies, the market sucks... I feel lucky to rent a nice house, let alone think about buying... Once DP gets his degree and finishes med school, we may be able to buy a little something on that... fingers crossed...
Kat PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE teach me how to find rent! My wage isn't that great, in fact its not much more than what the rent would be. I hope that after tomorrow I will soon be approved for single parenting payment. The biggest bonus I see in that is pensioner concession which would seriously cut down my work travel expenses. But how do I make my application good? What days are best to look? I have w/e mon and fri when I don't work. But I'd have to take my daughter and I don't drive so it would be a pain to see the place. I guess I'll find something.

VENT AHEAD!!!!
What's the go with real estate agency expectations??? I mean honestly, they want us to work to afford it, but they wont plan inspections for when were not working, and then they wont let us apply without looking at it. Oh, and did i mention government housing initiatives have a six to twentyfour month waiting period... so even for emergency cheap accomodation we're apparently screwed...
I looked at a website that said you shouldn't pay more than 30% of your income on rent per week, strangely enough even with bringing that down to 20% r/e agents dont think were good enough. I think i might look into private rentals...
Anyway, ssorry about the rental rant, im just so frustrated and over it. We tried buying and the finance/conveyancing company screwed us over to the point where it took them three weeks to forward our applications to the banks and then the owner told us to get f'd. Now we've been looking for rentals for two months, we only have til the end of december to get out and it seems were not making progress at all. Do they really believe that every single young person with children is that irresponsible??????? How come my mum who used to earn 26k a year with three kids managed to rent just fine, but we have an income of 42k and one baby and cant get a house. GRRRRRRRRRRRRR.
Sorry.....
People are jumping on the profit bandwagon. I'm sure all those that rent out have never had to rent themselves. Elouise doesn't want a nap so I gotta go. Would say more but can't.
Love yas
I wish we could share Sal! Damn the 4000km!!!
Funny you say that, I was just saying to mum that if things don't work out with Nigel i should move interstate!
gee its hot here today just a stinker..
My Ds has been have some truable at school atm so I went to his teacher the other day to talk about it, but she just laugh like it was nothing grrrrrr it makes me soooooo mad that even now I get treated like I dont know anything, just because I had my child at 21 doesnt mean I know any less about him than a mother who had their child at 33. it just makes me so mad.. When will I ever be treated like everybody else is treated.. sorry girls I know this seems a bit left field but you will be the only ones who would kinda know whats its like not that you have school kids yet. just need to get it of my chest..
Always a good place to vent :D oh, we have a lot to look forward to by the sound of things!!
yeah things dont seem to change much :( but it just gets harder as you age as I think that I'm old but then when they get to school most the mums are almost 40 so 28 seems young again. maybe when kai is in school I will feel normal but by them I will have one in yr 6 .
I thought I'd pop in, hope I'm not too old! I'm 24 (will be 25 in Feb) and my dh is 28 this month. We have been together since Nov 01, got engaged Feb 06 and married Mar 07. We have our little man, Jensen born Aug 07. I can't wait to have more! It was the best experience I've ever had! I went back to work on Thursday just gone - originally for one day a week. Spoke to my boss, and he said I could do 2 days per wk, and as money is tight, i said yes. Jensen is 3mths old, and will be watched by his nana (dh mum) and his oma (my mum). hehe they get to share, 1 day a week each.
Catherine - PM me with any questions, and i'd be happy to answer them for you :) Centrelink will pay rent assist, my sister has 2 children and she gets about $100 a fortnight rent assist.
hello sconeonamission.... (love ya nic :D ) welcome to our young mum thread... :D
Welcome sconeonamission! :)
The max amount of rent assistance you can get is $123.76 for 1-2 kids and $140 for 3 or more
Oh boy it makes me angry thinking of people (or at least their real estate managers) who put up the cost of rent just because they're greedy. Really gets up my goat! its just a shame that its just about impossible to buy a home unless you're in a relationship and both working full time. I had a look at what we could borrow from Home Start to buy a house and it was like $170,000. we couldn't buy a stretch of gutter in the street with that...... All the houses around here are a minimum of $300,000 unless you want to live in the festy neighbourhoods where there are a lot of disturbances, drugs, violence, etc.. AND on top of that, any houses that are going cheap are being bought by companies who are ripping them down to build two houses on the same block its total bullsh*t. I see it everywhere, blocks with two houses going up so they can double their cash, never mind the poorer people who could've bought the house at a reasonable price TO LIVE IN.
tali - i understand what you mean, when mine are old enough for school i might end up bringing DH to do most of the talking, he's currently 32 so that might make a difference in how they deal with us i dunno.
Gawd i'm hungry... imma go have some breakie..
*hugs*
Hello & welcome sconeonamission
