    Egg collection

So I had my first egg collection/ pick up on Friday.
In my anesthetized (sp?) haze- the FS told me they couldn't collect from my right side as my bowel was in the way.

    Has this happened to anyone?
7 eggs were collected, and I'm a bit freaked out that's not enough!

I have had eggs collected from just one side a couple of times.

Most I have ever had is four eggs collected. I would kill to get seven eggs, as would a lot of the girls on the LTTTC and Assisted Conception thread! I know it's hard but you just need to relax. The first cycle is usually a bit of a test anyway, to see how you respond to meds, etc.

You can have 15 eggs and still only end up with one viable for transfer, or have only three or four and have all of them be suitable for transfer. IVF is a lotto. What happens for one woman, doesnt happen for another. Heck, what happens in one cycle, doesnt happen in another. You just have to learn to not worry about it because you cant control the outcome anyway. Easier said than done but there is nothing else to do....

Have you had a phone call from the clinic to tell you how many have fertilised?

    Hi Emma

I havent had that specifically happen but on one cycle I only had only 7 eggs collected too. FWIW it was the best cycle we had, in terms of fertilisation and blasto's. From memory, 6 fertilised and all 6 made it to day 5 Try not to stress- although I know its impossible! Hang in there, crossing everything for a BFP

    Thanks girls.

Easier said than done to relax- this is my first go, so all very new to me.

Dont worry, we've all been there

If you end up having to do it as many times as Lily Dust and me, you'll be in here offering the same advice to someone else

    Hi Emma,

I haven't had only one side collected but I did get 8 eggs collected, 7 fertlised & then we got two - one implanted, one on ice. I fell pg that cycle (this pg), so don't lose hope. This was only my second cycle, so very lucky to respond as well as we did (1st cycle cancelled) and fall & stay pg. I know it is hard to relax but it really is out of your control now & unfortunatley you just have to play the waiting game :-( I wish you all the luck and hope that this cycle is successful.

Emma I also had 8 eggs although collected from both sides, 7 fertilized. A friend of mine had 17, 9 fertilized and she ended up with 1 and a bfp. It's so much about quality not quantity, I understand your anxiety around numbers we have all been there. Any word on your number of fertilized eggs yet?

    Hi Emma...

I had 9 follies, and 7 eggs collected, from which 5 fert, and 2 made it to blast. We had one implanted which turned into the DD2 I am currently carrying, and one frozen. Don't fret too much about numbers! Some research suggests that more eggs is not better because the quality seems to be shared. Best of luck xoxo

Em - first cycle I only had 4 collected, one was an empty follicle (no egg), only one fertilised - his name is now Bailey, currently watching Toy Story right next to me

Hang in there - Quality counts much more than Quantity xx

    Thanks so much ladies

I'm not sure when they will tell me how many have fertilized- I'm having a day 5 transfer on Wednesday.

Nobody has heard of the bowel thing- so I must be freakishly abnormal

Hope I can speak to my FS tomorrow

Hey Emma! Hang in there...I got 9 @ collection, only 6 fertilised but only 2 were ok to use after PGD. First cycle produced DD4 and the second popsicle we are hoping to use for FET in a month or 2. Good luck !

Out of 7 eggs- 4 fertillised and 3 made it to day 5.
They're going to let me know tomorrow if the 2 remaining can make it to freezing stage

they are awesome number lovely. Esp for your first IVF cycle- the more you do, the better they can get you to respond without OHSS
i would only get small numbers but definately its all about the quality

your bowel could have been filled with air or distended and that is why it was in the way. next time lots of farts before you go in lol and perhaps a high fibre diet a few days before had push things along literally lol
good luck and fingers and legs crossed xxxx
