Question Help - do you tend to have the same number of eggs each stimulated cycle.

    Hi All,

I desperately need advice, Ihave had one stim cycle and had 4eggs and second stim cycle have 3 eggs. Im worried due to PGD that our chances are low for a positive outcome. Hubby and Son have Muscular Dystrophy.

Has anyone heard of having varying number of eggs each cycle, my doc has said this is probably what we can expect if we cancelled and tried again. Or we coul dend up with 1 egg or 5.

    Help/advice please.

    Hello again,

I think the answer to yr Q is "yes". Basically if u have LOR your ovaries are very unlikely to pump out unexpected large numbers of eggs. With LOR, Your ovaries in a way are "holding on to" your remaining eggs and only releasing modest numbers (even with stimulation) per cycle, even with stimulation. It really sucks (!!!), but I don't think there is a whole lot one can do to change it. They cannot tell you exactly how long the process of declining eggs is (ie exactly how long before menopause, because there is no really accurate test yet, only various indicator/predictor tests). I have not been given any definative answer, but my eggs numbers have been soemthing like: 3, 4, 2, and 0 last cycle (ie, nothing in the one follicle I had). I have been told that it doesn't been I have run out yet, as the number of eggs per cycle does vary and sometimes follicles will not contain eggs - no matter how old you are. I am 39 and this has what's occurred for mw over the last 12 mns.

I hope this helps somewhat. Good luck! PGD is a totally new stressful layer to IVF.

Doing PGD and getting lowish numbers must be stressful for you. Your Dr is probably the best person to tell you whether you are likely to get more next time or if you are using a different drug regime.

I have only done 2 cycles and had low result first time and so the drugs were upped the second time, and numbers increased.

    again.

    Hi Girls,

Thanks for your replies. You both have such different cycles, i guess it's really unknown.
Lily Dust how great for you to have so many eggs on 3rd cycle. Is that unusual? Gemhope are you going to try for another cycle?
Lenny, do you mind if I ask the difference in number of eggs each cycle?

I'm worried my age may have something to do with it.

Well I decided to go ahead, couldnt get out of my mind the 'what if' I didnt do it and cancelled the cycle and that was meant to be the one. We ended up having 4 eggs, rather than the 3 expected. there was a follice that was smaller during scans but they were able to get an egg and from it. From first appearance they all look mature, just have to wait now and see how many fertilise tomorrow. So nervous. i just wish it was day 5/6 and I knew what was happening. I'm like the lights are on but no-one is home, and have been for the last 2 days. I cant concentrate with things like this happening.

Tigerkat, the 3rd cycle does look great, but you know what, we had 2 embies on day 5 from all those little eggs and once frozen the second didnt thaw , the one transfer we got also didnt result in a pregnancy. I dont know if it is common to have such high numbers but I ended up with OHSS, which was horrid! Each cycle is just so different and I guess at the end of the day it depends on which is the sticky embie, not the number fo eggs you produce.

I hope you get your little miracle very soon hun, it really isnt a very fair thing to have to endure x

    Thanks Marcellus.

Lily Dust, i'm sorry it didnt work for you sweety. With so many to start with, you must have had positive vibes at the beginning, how crushing. Are you going to try another cycle? It's such a rollercaoster ride. This is our last cycle, we cant afford another. We had a call this morning to tell us we had 3 fertisiled, I know not to get to excited this time round, we are wiser now after havig one cycle.

I used to type in that section all the time lol

We are extremely fortunate and dont need another cycle, 2 years after that last cycle . I am one of the very lucky ones. I dont mean to be rude and insensitive putting it in here, I though long and hard about how to word it and there is just no 'prefect' way. We were given a 1% chance of conceiving naturally and were told that 'its not that there is no reason for your infertility, its just that medical knowledge hasnt found it yet' . So please do not ever give up hope of a miracle.

3 fertilised is a great start hun. It is so much easier to expect the worse, that I completely understand but I sincerley hope you get your soon x

Hi Lily Dust, our good news turned to bad. I'm going to start a new thread to know if anyone has ever experinced IVf losing their embryo just before transfer.
    Just cant believe it.
