    Wait times to get started...

    Hi,

Just wondering if anyone else here is going through RPA hospital for IVF as a public patient?

We started the process early March, have had some tests, back to doctor in 2 weeks but I learnt today I have to wait til August to see the nurse... OUCH! I didnt expect that long of a wait.... I thought it would be quicker to get in to see a nurse then the FS.... Does everything take so long? (I just need to prepare myself, so I am not throw out of wack again.. I am a control freak)!

Time is ticking.... my heart is breaking.... I just want my baby :-(

    Thanks

    Hi Joeyme,
I can't answer your specific question because I am with a clinic in Melbourne but I feel for you. It does sound like a long wait. After seeing our FS we only had to wait around 5 or 6 weeks before all out appointments with nurse, counsellor etc. Once we had those appointments everything was rolling and there was no more waiting.
I can appreciate how frustrating it is when you just want things to get started.
    Hang in there.

Thanks for your reply.. I am hanging in there! We are looking to see if we can afford to go through a private company and I'm also taking the opportunity to look at the positive side of things and focus on falling preggo naturally through changes in my diet, accupunture and yoga (I'll try anything and everything!) Fingers crossed..

And Good Luck to you on your journey... xx

    Hi Joeyme,

I see you're on the central coast as well. We are going through Westmead IVF and it's very affordable if you choose the No safety net option. We're paying $1450 up front and get around $700 back. We had our first appointment 2 weeks ago and have just booked in for our nurse interview for the 27th and start injections on the 3rd June.

They also offer a public option but there was a 6 month wait for that, so we went for the paid option. We have to pay for each doc appointment before we start our cycle but that was only 2 appointments and after medicare rebate we only paid around $120 all up for those.

It's a bit of a hike to gte there each time but well worth the savings on the coast clinics.

Might be worth looking into if you don't want to wait.

    Westmead

Thanks so much for the information Megan. I have looked into Westmead a little bit but being disillusioned I figured that the wait times would be just as long. I will look into it again definately!!

From memory you had to book into a doctor, which you had a choice of about 6?? Which one did you use and what was that inital wait time like? (not sure if the rules allow you to mention doctors names but I'd love for you to email me at email - megan underscore urquhart at yahoo dot com

    Thanks

Best wishes and luck to you.

I can't really offer anything as I'm a private patient in Brisbane, BUT I know we have been waiting since January as I have been trying to lose weight and get healthier..

Now it's already May, and I have my Lap next week and time flew... I'm sure time will fly for you too. We aren't even starting our first cycle until July but it seems like time has gone really quickly.!

Good Luck, use the time to get your headspace clear, and calm and prepared for your journey. Best Wishes
