    Sperm analysis question

DH has SA on Monday. We were thinking of having a BBQ and drinking too much tonight, as we've had a wretched week personally and professionally. Will that negatively affect the SA? We can skip the drinking too much alcohol bit if it's best. Mind you, he had 4 drinks last night, which is more than normal for him. Maybe the damage, if any, is done.

anything else he should skip in the next 3 days? Apart from DTD, which we know about.

    TIA

I think the alcohol last night should be fine, but not tonight - the DTD rule is 3 days isn't it? So skip alcohol, and maybe even soft drink for 3 days as well. And no hot baths. And tell him not to put his junk in the microwave

Why soft drink? I think I'd have a harder time getting him to stay off that than alcohol.

    Sperm analysis question

When my DH did his he had a couple of drinks and also caffeine. His results weren't great and he kept saying that was the reason why. When we did ivf we had to do icsi as his results were still not great and he had cut out caffeine alcohol etc.
So really it didn't make that much difference but made an excuse for him to be a bit in denial the first time around itms?

I wouldn't have thought it'd make much difference within such a short time frame? 3 months to replace, so damage would be seen later on....? I'm no expert, mind. I guess if he drinks a lot then has a bad SA, you might always wonder if that's what it was

    Sperm analysis question

I know even as little as 2 weeks can make a difference. DH had to go on antibiotics and nurefen two weeks before our ICSI cycle to help his boys for the big event. Personally the healthier you are the better, so I'd give the grog a miss

Maybe he shouldn't stand too close to the BBQ. The reason balls hang low is to keep the swimmers cool.

I thought it was a matter of months that made a difference, so doubt anything you do in the next few days will count- good luck!
Just don't get drunk and accidently DTD

thanks. That's not likely. Alcohol and performance don't really mix

i'm not going stress about it too much. We've got enough going on that I can stress about. At least I can drink. That won't affect my tests.

btw, we're not a couple of lushes. We rarely actually drink.

    Lush - lol!
We were also of the belief that it was months not days that made a difference to quality.
We had the same as Joeve - he always had an excuse and was in denial about his true ability so to speak.

Sorry you've had a bad week - i'd relax and have a drink or two, you lushes. If the result is not great, then you can start the elimination.

We weren't told to do anything except avoid DTD. I was under the impression it was 3 months also

Mine never gave up drinking throughout our whole ivf experience ( although he kept threatening to lol)
I agree with Lenny, just see what the result is and take it from there, enjoy your night!

Sugar is supposedly bad for egg quality, so it wouldn't surprise me if it's also bad for sperm quality? But, even if it is, I agree with the others above that it would be more of a long-term thing rather than just skipping 3 days...

Hard to know about the alcohol. I've always lumped it in with sugar (because it's so high in kJ), but I'd guess it could have both short- and long-term consequences. I guess I'd take the approach of living your life like normal and, if you get a bad result, you can always re-test after a few months of "being good". Or, he can go without now and see where it gets him? It really depends on what he/you prefer to do. It's not like this test result will be carved in stone and he will hereafter always have the same count/motility/morphology, good or bad...

I also believe it's a three month process to make sperm and get them out. And if this is a Sperm Analysis, to see if there is any Male Factor Infertility, (as opposed to a collection for insemination of your eggs) I would not get him to do anything differently to normal - you want to know what his sperm are like normally.

I see no point is trying to be on 'best behaviour' for these kind of tests - no-one is judging him on the results; the whole purpose ( I presume) is to see why you're having trouble achieving a successful pregnancy.

our FS has always said the 3 months ago is the current sperm samples "make up" as last yr He had his birthday party night before sample to be frozen!! and he drank like a FISH! ( much to my horror but i could not tell him being his party, hes a pig headed thing who thinks his "Boys" are invinsable! )
so gave his sample and low and behold they were great!... i allways thought they were dodgy spermies so i shcedualed another batch to be frozen only to be told afterwards that none made it to feezing!!!... what the?? he just got back from his 2 week shift away at work with no beer and the bloomin things were sensitive??
any way i still had old batch and they have been outstanding defrosted quality from what my FS Says!!... altho im not prg lol but thats my prob.
i dont know how on earth that worked out im such a non drinker and worse thing is DH now thinks alcohol is no probs at all
