HELP! 2 FS' with 2 different treatment plans

    Hello Ladies!

I am currently in a state trying to decide which FS/IVF treatment cycle to go with.

We have seen 2 reputable FS' from 2 diff IVF clinics (SIVF & IVFA).

I am 27 & have PCOS and need ICSI to conceive due to DH MF infertility.

One doctor recommended the Antagonist cycle for me and can start me as early as this coming Monday.

The other doctor recommended Long Down Reg, and I can start that next Thursday.

When I asked both doctors why that particular treatment, both said because of my PCOS and to avoid OHSS.

Can anyone please give me any advice on what treatment cycle works better for PCOS patients, and which clinic they think I should go with. DH and I need to make a decision by tomorrow. Any success stories with either of these clinics/treatment cycles??

    Hi Nat,

I have PCOS and my DH has sperm issues - my FS had me on the long down regulation cycle and we also went with ICSI. I'm not sure what the Antagonist cycle entails, but with the down reg they effectively 'shut down' your hormones so that they can control them with the meds. From my knowledge this is meant to be effective with PCOS, but some others may have experience with the Antagonist.

The down reg cycle worked well for us. I had 12 eggs collected and of those 12, 8 fertilised and grew. I had a fresh transfer which resulted in a BFN, but my first HRT FET was successful and I now have a 7 month old daughter and still have 5 embies on ice.

I am based in Melbourne, so don't have experience with either of those clinics.

Not sure if that information helps you any, but best of luck and may your IVF journey be a short and successful one!

    Hi Nat,

I have pcos and hubby sperm issues too. I have done 2 down reg and 2 antagonist. (Same FS) I have had better results with antagonist. My first cycle was cancelled as I overstimulated (OHSS) and this was on a down reg cycle - it really depends on dose of the drugs they give you as to the likelihood of OHSS.

I am currently in 2WW of an antagonist cycle, yet to have a bfp - but hoping.

I think it's a difficult call to make because it's not until you do your first cycle that you are going to know how your body will react. The more times you go through it the more you and your doctor learn. If I were you I would go with the doctor and clinic you feel most comfortable with as all clinics do the different types of cycles pretty much anyway.

    Hope that helps

    Hi Nat

Im with Aleenta, in that, your first cycle is hit and miss, you really cannot predict how your body will respond to any any type of particular cycle, and every woman is so different, though it is so helpful to get opinions from friends on BB

I completly understand being confused as to which road to take, I am in the same boat, different problems, different ideas.

Not sure if money is an issue, antagonist is more expensive, the antag shots can be up to $90.00 each and you may need 5 or more, on top of your start up costs.

BOL making your decision, I am sure it will be the right one
