well have been knitting all afternoon and am half way there LOL geeze I am a slow coach, I wnet into a knitting shop today and they had to most gorgouse wool but it was very much so either in pinks or blues so I left it and got some really nice multi coloured wool that has green and aqua and turqoise in it I really like it, I am starting to get addicted here LOL
-
LOL Amy - some addictions are good for you!
-
Thats great guys. Thanks for volunteering Penny:clap: I was hoping someone would I am just flat out at the moment. Nessa don't worried I was taught how to knit and found it difficult so I developed my own style it still came out the same in the end but my teacher refused to teach me unless I did it her way. I will email you penny.
-
Knitting and crochet are highly addictive, I only started about 3 years ago but haven't looked back. My DH calls it crochet madness. The more you practice the better you'll get and the more addicted you'll be.
-
I am hoping I am doing ok, I worry cause it doesnt look perfect, but its not to bad I dont think hmmm but what would I know LOL, so I will send it and if its not okay I really wont be offended at all if its not used, I dont want to make the blanket look cruddy hehehehehe,
I am almost finished my first square YAY and that hasnt taken me long at all, I will start another one too its been great practice thats for sure, I really dont want to loose it this time ie; the whole knitting flow LOL, as I started knitting a few years back but my son got to it and pulled it apart and I left it at that and couldnt for the life of me work out how to start it again so this time I have got my groove back hehehe and I dont want to loose it I just want to get better,
I want to get a book of baby patterns that use this gorgeous velvet wool and it also incorperated the feathers in to some of the peices of clothing, the lady said its very much a great place for a begginer to start,
so perhaps next week I will get that as I want to actally make something now I just have a hard time understanding the patterns, but really want to see something I have started and finished.
thanks for the motivation girls
-
Nessa I did the same thing and again its not all that noticable,
so yeah it would be good to know if its still okay.
-
Hi all, it doesn't matter if they are not perfect i'm sure who ever gets the blanket will be glad to have something to keep them warm during the cold winter months. Now if you have a massive hole that takes up the whole square we may need to worry LOL:lol: Just do you best.:happyforyou:
-
I'm sure our blanket will be beautiful and much appreciated so don't worry too much about a few dropped stitches. I've just started no.3.
-
cool thanks for that,

-
Finally bought some wool!!! I got cream cause I thought it would go with anything everyone else was doing- now I just need to find all my knitting needles and I'm off! You guys will be on the 3rd blanket by the time I start the rate you are going LOL
-
Yay Nessa! Feels good doesn't it?
I wish I was super woman Amym, I have so many projects started and trying to find time to finish them all is not fun.
After I've finished this square I'm going to do something else so you'll have a chance to catch up mrsmac.
-
I have finished too YAY, will start anohther one tonight, but am sick so may not get much done before I head to bed.
-
WOW I have made 1, sorry,
you go Nessa well done
I got sick and then kinda lost my momentum,
-
4 at a go sounds good to me, I'll be starting no4 tonight after my daughters concert. All of mine are purple but in different stitches and with B's on them.
-
OMG I'm falling behind. Everyone in my house including me have had a virus and the flu so I have had no time to knit let alone any energy.I will have to get my but into gear.
-
who are we sending them too? I have done one and want to send it on its way.
-
sending to me, my email is pjc2820@bigpond.net.au . We thought it would save on postage to send a few at a time. I'm ready and waiting.
-
I've been so busy with everything else but knitiing these squares so far this week I have sewn a formal dress for a wedding I'm going to next week and I've been cooking up a storm. I hope to get back to the knitting thing when I get back from this wedding.
-
eeeeeekkkkk, I haveonly done one, we have just moved on top of everything else and now I cant find it I dont know where I put it grrrrrr, oh well boxes are being unpacked at a steady rate so hopefully it wont take me to long to find my knitting needles and get back into it.
-
That's fine Nessa, in reality I'm supposed to press them before I sew them together anyway.
Well girls I've finished my five, so I'm going to wait patiently for everyone elses to start arriving so I can sew them up. I've also found where the finished blanket is to be sent.
My next charity project is jumpers for African Aids Babies, apparently they leave the hospitals wrapped in newspaper. If any of you are interested, even you beginners, it's a really simple pattern knitted in one then sewn at the sides.
Cast on 44 stitches
Work 18 rows K2,P2 rib
Work 30 rows stocking stitch
Cast on 12 stitches at the beginning of next 2 rows, changing back to K2,P2
Rib 22 more rows
Rib 21, cast off 26 stitches, rib 21
Rib 21, cast on 26 stitches, rib 21
Rib 22 rows
Cast off 12 stitches beginning next 2 rows
Work 30 rows stocking stitch
Work 18 rows K2,P2 rib
Cast off and sew up

K means knit
P means pearl(knitting stitches towards you instead of away)
Stocking is knitting one row, then pearling the next so all of the stitches face the same side.
You can pick up a really good beginners book from any newsagents. Knitting seems to be back in vogue at the mo.
-
Thats a great idea Penny! My neighbour is knitting the jumpers for the african babies as well. It must be a central west thing because I have heard a few people around here doing knitting for the same thing. Its so sad to hear that a baby goes home from a hospital in newspaper It makes me glad we live in such a good country where that sort of thing is unheard of. Where are you sending the blanket?
-
There's a group in town doing it, there was an article in the times on monday about it. I've also looked it up on line and there seems to be a few rural communities involved in it. When I read about those poor babies my heart just broke:(( I just wanted to hold them and show them love, like they deserve) and I figure the best thing I can do is knit these jumpers for them.
-
That's okay Nessa, I think you've done reaaly well with the squares, considering you've only just taught yourself. I didn't tackle anything with a pattern for ages and then it was wariations on scarves, so I was still kinitting in straight bits with no casting on or off.
I've sent you my address.
-
Hi Penny,
Please email me your address to anney2227@yahoo.com. I only have one square but we are moving house this week and I don't want it to get lost.
thanks
-
hey Anney great idea, casue you know what, we moved a couple of weeks ago and I put my one and only square in a 'special' and 'safe' place, ummm but dont know where that is now LOL so I cant for the life of me remember so that I can get it out.
I am going to go and get some more wool this week though and might just start again.
-
Hey Annie, I've just emailed my address to you, I hope it's not too late, I've been busy the last couple of days- unfortunately my email was just returned, you must have already moved, sorry.
Nessa, I've received your squares, fantastic 1st effort, and sewn them to mine. I'm going to be posting progress photos on my website as everyones squares arrive so I'll let you know when I've posted the first one.
hang in there and keep on knitting girls, it really does get easier.
-
I'm doing the knitting for friends babies thing at the mo too.
-
Okay ladies, I've just posted a photo of Nessa and my squares sewn together on my website, link on my profile, to hopefully inspire the rest of you to finish your squares and send them to me.
-
What's happening in the knitting world everyone, I'm back to my half finished jumper and blankets.
-
Hi Pebbles,
We haev moved and the internet access has been very unreliable. can you try my email address again but put .au on the end. I always get mixed up with whether the yahoo addresses need a .au or not. managed to not lose my square inthe move.:D
I started making one of those ear flap hats for my brother but found one on ozoption for $15 so took the lazy way out and bought him one!!
-
anney, my middle son is hanging to use the computer so I'll send an email tomorrow.
Nessa, feathers is great to knit with because it hides any mistakes, there is a pattern for a little girls bolero in this weeks take 5 using it.
-
Oh dear - I am in big trouble!
I thought that I had posted mine about a month ago - just found them under the seat in the car (really should clean the car more often!)
The package is sealed but from memory there were 4 or 5. Promise that I will send them tomorrow.
-
TaffyLou, I forgive you. I'll be waiing and willlet you know when I've posted an updated picture of the blankets progress.
Anney, trying your email address now.
-
Taffylou, I received your squares last week and have sewn them onto the blanket, I just posted the up to date picture of it on my web site so it should be viewable tomorrow. This should give you others a bit of an incentive to finish your squares. I estimate we need about 20 more so anyone who wants to join our little group please do.
-
I have some scraps left over from my most recent projects so I will get knitting again!
-
Hows this going?
I could probably do up a square or 2 if you need extra's to finsih off.
-
I am slow to catch up but I have quite a bit of wool left over ( I always get too much JIC ), so I have heaps to make squares. I may be a beginner but I swear I can knit squares pretty well...
I just need to go buy some 4mm needles... Let us know if you need more squares, they don't take long to make really so I'd love to help.
Not quite ready to make the leap to jumpers yet though, will keep at it until I am though.
