    Mothers' Union knits woolly breasts

OK, I had to post this news article, but thought it would be appreciated here more

    Mothers' Union knits woolly breasts

Mothers' Union members have been commissioned to knit woollen breasts to help teach new mums breastfeed their babies.

The NHS asked the Somerset branch of the Mothers' Union to produce 150 woollen breasts, in several colours, as a better alternative to balloons.

"At first I thought they needed 150 woolly vests," said Shirley Dibbs of the Mothers' Union. "But our members are always ready to help good causes."

The fake breasts have been issued to health visitors and community nurses who help support new mothers.

They are helping to teach breastfeeding mothers how to express their milk and deal with problems like blocked ducts and mastitis.

"In the past, trainers had to use balloons to demonstrate feeding skills," said infant feeding specialist Louise Stickland.

"To my delight, the Mothers' Union enrolled their best knitters for us - and they have done an outstanding job."

They sound like a great idea!
My grandmother had a breast removed due to cancer & was given a fake one to even her up til the other one was removed. But now they make cushion things I've seen at Big W out of the same stuff...to this day I can't look at, let alone touch one of those cushions! lol

(MD - maybe you could email them? Or I'm sure someone else would either do it for you, or teach you how?)

Thats unreal! - the hospital where i had DD used them in our antenatal classes, it was really good to see a "proper" boob and how attachment should be etc - great to see they are going to be used more widely
