Question Cheap Wholesome Meals for Large families

As the title suggests, I am
the mother of 6 young children, soon to be 7 hopefully....and I am looking for good recipe/meal ideas that are cheap and easy to make for large family and also nutritious and something that young kids will actually eat without much prompting!

    Any tips most welcome, thanks

Go and check out the recipes thread - particularly the slow cooker recipe thread. It doesn't matter if you don't have a slow cooker, I don't and I make quite a few of the recipes from there in the normal oven. I will post the link for you.

Coucous salad is cheap, easy wholesome and yum!

Cook 1 (or two in your case but 1 makes heaps for $2!) Box of coucous.

Add: any of the following or anything you have on hand in the fridge.

chickpeas (or bits of cooked bbq chicken etc would work)
    mushrooms
    capsicum
    corn
    fresh herbs
    broccilli
    sliced beans
    fresh peas
    carrot
    olives
    sundried or fresh tomato

Combine veg with coucous and its done! Add pepper and lemon juice to taste.

Coucous only takes a few minutes to cook and you could also saute the veg first in a little stock and water to make things softer, or fry up some onion and saute the veg till soft and combine with coucous.

To make it more interesting maybe you could name the veg and see how many trees (brocilli) the kids can eat, or cut things like the carrot into shapes. Also you could grate the carrot so they cant tell they are eating it!
