LOL Tan! I'm conflicted because I don't like post-whoring so I am going to have to make sure that I make thoughtful posts :lol:
So actually it was a dinner for 6, not 4? It kind of sounds fair to me- they provided a main course and I'm guessing the drinks? Then one guest provided another main and another provided dessert. Sounds like a nice, casual event and in that context I wouldn't think they've broken any etiquette taboos.
Did they dictate that exact dessert for your friends to bring? If so, then that's a bit "Thanksgiving Letter".
I think it's rude. Unless you had offered by saying 'would you like me to bring a roast chicken?' specifically, then I would never ask someone to bring that. A bottle of soft drink or a tub of dip is ok, but a whole chicken is too much.
