Hi
I have just gone through the 2 days of meetings and my hubby and parents have just given blood to start the dna linkage for the Haemophilia, so from what I understand around 10 weeks from now I start all the injections etc....nerve wrecking!
One questin I have if anyone can comment is - did any of you get any side affects from the injections etc?
I am just so happy to have found this forum as its so hard to talk to anyone about this as none of my friends really understand....

WTH - great job! Praying for those embies to be strong little ones. What a stressful few days you have ahead..... I am scared in anticipation for you! Just need one tough, "normal" one to make it to the end!
CP - how's the jabbing going? GL with thursday. Hopefully gives you a positive note to go forward with
Sara - hope you had great time away and now ready to get fully "into" what should be a great cycle.
Gingie - Welcome and best of luck on your upcoming journey. IVF is stressful enough but adding PGD just brings ina whole new range of emotions. This thread has been a godsend to all of us.... women walking the same path
Me - last pill on friday and have started to spot today so expecting more full on AF tomorrow. Can't believe how glad I am to see her! The journey is about to start!!
Prior to really getting to know about all this, I had in my head that we may end up with 3-4 good blasts. NOw I am realising we will be just soooo lucky to get anything from 1 upwards
-
Gingie,
The main side effect I had was from the synarel, which is one of the medications used to shut down your own hormone production. It made me very tired, rather spacey, and very, very stupid (like I ran the car into a pole in my carport and did not notice). The injections themselves were not a problem, although the few days before egg pick up were uncomfortable, since your ovaries get quite big and swollen.
I also found that crinone (which is a progesterone supplement used after embryo transfer) gave me nightmares - that improved when I switched to taking it in the morning.
But - everyone's responses to the medications are different.
Another thing you need to be aware of is that the times given by labs for starting can be quite variable. 10 weeks could easily be 20 - it's just their best guess of how long it will take, and it can take much longer if they have to try several times to get a working test and backup test.
hugs
Kate

Meredith - thanks for your support. Great job? I dunno. I really had hoped for better fertilisation. Have been told a few contradictory figures of what to expect, ranging from 50-80%. What I do not understand is how the swimmers can all penetrate my eggies yet that they do not all fertilise. Whatever you do, please do not use my numbers as anything to go by. I have been looking up other IVFer numbers and it has been doing my head in!! Too scared to even suggest how many blasts I am hoping for on Thursday. The SIVF brochure says only 1/3 embryos are normal on Day 3. By Day 5 about 2/3 are normal. So I need to get a few there... Congratulations on AF. Sounds like you are about to start jabbing :D
Gingie - :welcome: to this special thread. We are all new to PGD. Please feel free to fire away the questions.
Lisa - if you are out there, I have been thinking of you. Was wondering if you are seeing your FS anytime soon and if you are thinking about your next step
Cuddlepie - you are right on the scary bit. Good luck with a positive FS appointment on Thursday!
Sara - thanks. I think I need all the luck I can get. I wish I could sound more positive. I am so tired of this numbers game (and I do keep defying the odds)
MinnieMouse - hey there. Nice to see you here:D
AFM - just willing away the week to find out what we are facing. I do not seem to have a patient enough personality for this whole IVF trip. But checking in on this thread has given me some sanity over the past few weeks ;)
-
WTH,
Hang in there hon, I understand how you feel, not very patient myself. Hope you have support from the people around you.
I had an appointment with the IVF counsellor today and asked her for some tips how to handle this time, not sure if that helps but thought what she said made sense.
She suggested when bad thoughts come to try to concentrate on my breathing and to visualise a big red stop sign and then thinking "is this though helpful or just making me more stressed". Not sure if this is going to work but will definitely give it a try.
Cuddlepie & Meredith: how are you going with the Lucrin? I have some cramps, hope this means that AF is on it's way. Trying to drink lots of water as nurse adviced and spend half the day on the toilet.
Cuddlepie: Keeping fingers crossed for you SCSA test result.
AFM talked to the scientist to find out if they could do down syndrome etc tests since we already do PGD for the genetic problem, does not seeem to be possible as they would have to test every embryo twice which is not neccessarily possible and if possible would mean they get damaged and don't grow.
Will go for blood test on Wednesday to find out if I can start FSH.

Hi girls,
Have spent the last few days evaluating everything. I double checked with the lab on the results of my girls and 2 of the had Trisomy 15, which apparently is very common but always ends in miscarriage, the lady in the lab who mentioned 21 (downs) was wrong - idiot....
I let my genetisist know about those results and she is sending us blood test forms so DH and I can both have a complete work up and look at our genes. When we get Brendans results back in January, we will put everything together. We can't make any decisions at the moment without knowing exactly what we are playing with.
I am doing OK, came to terms with the fact that there is absolutely nothing I can do about not getting any girls to transfer so I just have to get over it. The issues with Brendan first raised their heads back in March so I have basically spent the last 8 months crying and hurting and I have nothing left. I felt alot better when we were finally able to bury Brendan and was OK for a little while so this could have broken me if I had let it. So it is soldier on and wait and see.
I hope you are all doing well and fingers crossed for everyone of you, thanks for all your support and prayers, it really did make me feel better.
I am not leaving this thread any time soon, I am too interested in hearing your successes.
Big hugs and kisses for you all
-
WTH - I am impatient already and haven't even started jabbing yet! Guess this will be a very long week but the upside is that after transfer ( and there WILL be a transfer!), its not to long to wait to find out if you have a BFP
Sara - Hoping AF here for you soon. Feels silly to want her so much eh?!
I am doing antagonist cycle so no Lucrin or Synarel for me. Will likely be starting FSH ( and a whole heap of other stuff) on Wed.
Lisa - great to see you pop in. You are such a brave woman. I would be a total mess by now but I do get you on just "having" to keep going. Not much choice really is there?
I have lost one little boy to trisomy 15. I was told it was actually not that common?. I am with Monash in melbourne so at least i know my embies will be tested for this.
AFM - REALLY stressful and frustrating day today. Called my usual IVF nurse only to find out she can't manage me for this cycle given my egg collection and transfer has to happen at another clinic. Was told she could by IVF Dr but apparently not the case. So ring another nurse at Clayton to find Mon is her day off. Left a message with someone else and no call back by 2pm. Called again and eventually talked to nurse who says I should be 'booked" in for PGD and should already have all my meds. NEVER told this by anyone and its not like I am new to the clinic. Have done 7 rounds of OI/IUI over the yrs.
Anyway, she says she can get me in tommorrow for meds pick up etc and she will sort out the lab booking. A real pain having to go to Clayton clinic as they are over an hr's drive for me, just to pick up meds which i could technically do at the Richmond branch not far from me... aghhh! Then she looks at my file to find my GP referral ran out on the 1/11. A BIG issue with medicare in terms of covering costs. So I had to beg the local clinic to squeeze me in this arvo just so the refferal could be dated today. Praying thats good enough for darn medicare!!
Anyway, praying all is still a go to start everything on Wed and I can REALLY start to stress!

I'm still quietly watching all the brave ladies hanging out in this thread... I can't offer much support or advice any more as everything has gone way beyong my level of knowledge and experience.
But... Meredith, I have encountered the medicare problem with expired referrals before. As long as your referral is current from day 1 of your cycle, you'll be ok. I'm not sure how it works if you have to down regulate as it was a FET cycle where it expired for me. We struck the unfortunate problem that our referral expired shortly after the end of a stim cycle in November, we actually saw the FS on the day before it expired! I had to wait a cycle and then book in for a FET in January when the clinic opened. CD1 turned out to be boxing day, but they didn't tell me until early January that I needed a referral to cover me from that date. :shhh: In the end my GP took pity on the crying, stressed out woman and backdated my referral to cover me so that we didn't have to wait for the start of another cycle. Apparently illegal, but very thankful he did, and it was the clinic who suggested I ask him to backdate it for me! It's annoying just how little the clinics tell you about the medicare requirements... I've also encountered the exclusion period post stim-cycle as well - that one was annoying!

Lisa: You are amazing, really hope you'll get some answers and can look forward in the New Year.
Meredith: This sounds like a real pain, as if you wouldn't have already enough to deal with.
BW: Great to have you check in.
AFM: AF has arrived yesterday evening, didn't expect it before today so was very happy. Hope that means that my BT tomorrow will show I am able to start FSH late this week.

Hey BW, its lovely for you to pop in...we need some cheering on the sideline I think :p...
Meredith, sorry to hear that the admin side of things kind of get in the way but seems all sorted out, I hope from here will be smooth sailing...so we can stress on the really stuff... just kidding.
Sara, hope AF will be here soon so you can start FSH, for some reason SIVF tend to start FSH on a Friday (or at least my FS), so I am hoping AF will arrive before this Friday so I don't have to keep on jabbing Lucrin for anther week...
Lisa, so good to see you back here and glad you are hanging in there and waiting to form a strategy for next step. I hope you get the result soon. Will be thinking of you...
WTH, hope you get some good news on the embie result today, I think its today isn't it?
AFM, feeling a bit crampy, its my D28, so I am hoping will be welcoming AF soon. So far, Lucrin injection is like a breeze and its just the prep I need before start FSH - a bigger needle! Hope I didn't scare you Sara...
Have a lovely day everyone!

Hi girls
I have been reading through your messages and what comes to mind is what an amazing group you are! I am so overwhelmed reading your stories and have shed a tear or two.....
It feels so as though much weight has come off me by finding this site as its been hard finding someone who understands the road I now face with IVF and PGD....
A question I have as Im new relates to the terms and abreviations you use in your messages - Im a little lost in the understanding:rolleyes:
Anyway, thank you for welcoming me to you group I look forward to sharing this part of my life with you all :grouphug:
A little about me, Im 36 and have been with my hubby for 10 years, married for 3 or therse...took him a while to pop the question - nearly gave up on him at year 6!
The guys in my family have Haemophilia and the girls carriers. So have made the decision I want a family but dont want to bring the disorder through the fmaily lines via girl carriers or affected boys. So here I am, freaked out and a little lonely dealing with this and getting my head around it all ....
Look forward to sharing with you all
Gingie

BW - Agree with Cuddlepie - we love having you cheering from the sidelines.
Lisa - I really admire the way you have handled this dreadful hand you have been dealt. I hope you get the answers you are looking for in January. I am perplexed you were told a Trisomy 15 is common. When I had one in my last MC I was told it was as rare as hen's teeth - now you have got me wondering... At SIVF they do not even offer Trisomy 15 testing in their 5 or 7 aneuploidy test program. Trisomy 16 and Trisomy 22 are the most common for recurrent miscarriage. I wish they were checking for T15 now if I get to blast, but I don't think there is anything I can do about it. Again, I am really impressed your lab checked for this one. Take care, hon
Cuddlepie - that is great you are getting AF symptoms. In my first cycle, the Provera made me 3 or 4 days late and they put things back an extra week. If you have not used the Puregon pen before, don't stress. I did not find it any more painful than the Lucrin. I just found it a bit awkward to push the top in once my doses were higher!
Meredith - can sympathise with you on the whole clinic ordeal. Because PGD is not offered where I am located, I have to deal with two clinics. This week was the handover and there has been a bit of confusion about who's doing what. Just be prepared to ask lots of questions. This business is a bit of a sausage-factory and I think if you don't fit the regular mould it is easy to fall through the cracks.
Sara - thanks for the tip. I think I will need to visualise some of those "stop" signs over the next couple of days. Congratulations on AF (how weird does that sound?)
AFM - well it's Day 3 my four little potential bubba's have continued to divide . The best one is already compacting (like Day 4), the next two are 8 and 6 cell (normal day 3 cell range) and then there is another one that is 4 cell (just behind). The embryologist described this result as "being on track for Day 3". Of interest, two more of my three remaining eggies did fertilise. At Day 3 they are still only two cells (a Day 1 result) which means they will be discarded today. From this point generally 50% make it to Day 5. So in the end, 6 out of 7 did fertilise.

Hi girls
Thank you for welcoming me to your group .... I have been reading your messages to date and you are the most amazing group women I have met. I have shed a tear reading your words. When I started at Syd IVF, I felt really lost and alone, but now finding this site it feels as though some weight has come off me.
It is hard talking about all this to someone who doesnt understand...
I have a question for you, in your messages you use a lot of abreviations - what do they mean? Just learning all of this :)
A little about me, Im 36 and been with my hubby for 10 years marries 3 of these....took him ages to pop the question - nearly gave up on him at year 6 :D
Im a carrier of Haemophila and the guys in my family have it and the girls carriers, so decided not to pass this on anymore via my children - so here I am!
Where am I at now - just waiting to hear back from the scientists to see when they are ready to get me ready for the egg collection phase.....sounds scary this part :o
Anyway - thank you for welcoming me to your group - I feel very priviledged getting to know you all...

WTH, It's good to hear the little embies are doing well and also great that two more did fertilise, that can only be a good sign. Go embies Go! :cheer: :bluecheer:
Cuddlepie, Oops, and I was thinking I was doing so well with the injections, now a bit nervous about the bigger needle, will have to check closely on BW's tips for needles and check with my acupunturist tomorrow.

I am so sorry Sara that I now made you nervous, :p I was playing a bit 'sympathy poor me' earlier, to be honest, it is not too bad at all. The needle is slight bigger than Lucrin's, but given the exercise you've done so far, it shouldn't be too much of a difference. I haven't got the FSH meds yet but you know what they might have improved them who knows.
WTH, I am so praying for your tough little embies keep growing and you will have all four of them to test.
Gingie, there is a thread for BB forum abbreviations, you soon will get a hang of it! If not, just ask us.
