My friend just went through IVF and from 20 eggs, all fertilised and 16 made it to day 5!! wow...Sydney IVF were telling her it was almost a record of their best results...
Anyone else heard of such high numbers of blastocysts?
My friend was unable to have a transfer as she over-stimulated ..so all have been frozen, ready and waiting for her- surely there will be a baby in there for her.
I am pleased for her, and if I am honest, a tad jealous!
WLAB...she is 36.... they used ICSI and went through a long down reg cycle, using lucrin...i can't recall just now what the standard SIVF dose is, but that's what they were on...this was her first cycle!
I also had 16 blasties. It took five transfers and I am now listening to my 17 day old daughter gurgling in the background. It was my second full cycle, they got 28 eggs, of which 21 fertilised and 16 made it to Blast. No-one was more suprised than me. The previous cycle they got 10 eggs, of which only 2 made it to blast. Both cycles were with Dr Rick Porter at IVFA at Greenwich in Sydney and we have 10 little brothers and sisters in the freezer as we speak.
In summary; First cycle: standard down reg, 10 eggs retrieved, 2 blastocycsts, BFN on both transfers
Second cycle: antagonist due to time constraints as DH was travelling. No medical indication for it. 28 eggs retrieved, 16 blastocysts, five transfers with BFP on fifth transfer. (One blastie didn't make the defrost) No OHSS amazingly enough but more pain than first cycle.
BTW I was 38 when the original cycles were done with a history of PCOS, slightly overweight and a small indication of APS for which I took aspirin after transfer. I also had acupuncture (with Sue Booth at Life-Source in North Sydney - WONDERFUL - she is a midwife as well so was very helpful all round!) and took COq10. DH swimmers all checked out fine. Oh also took Blackmores Preconception supplements.
Good luck and lots of baby dust with your cycles ladies. It can and will happen for you!

Wow, what a great result! So jealous too! My personal best is 3 blasties out of 9 eggs...imagine 16! I hope she gets BFP on the first go!
Do you guys think that the lab of different clinics would make any difference? Such as SIVF vs. IVF Aust. I'd imagaine they would use the standard equipment and techinology etc. But sometimes you just wonder....
