    Acupuncture in and around Melbourne

OK i know this type of thread has come up time and time again.

Please could you tell me of any acupuncturist that specialise in IVF in the east Melbourne area. I will go as far out as Lilydale and to the city if i have to but would really like something close to home this time!!

thank you for all the support with finding success

Is Mitcham close to you? I know of a lady acupuncturist who works with IVF patients in Mitcham. Do you want the details?

Hun I see Alice Gao in Balwyn on Balwyn Rd. She specialises in women's fertility/IVF and is reasonable priced. Another BB gal put me on to her and Alice seems to know what she is doing. She is really nice and quite pretty business like and knows the ins/outs of IVF. I miss my AP in Canberra who gives the best neck and head massages and his wonderful empathy but Alice has been a good find while down here and my AP in canberra wasn't a fertility expert.

    Hi Pitapata

I have been seeing Mary-Jo Bevin at Apricot Grove - Steven Clavey's Clinic on Russell St in the city. I would definitely recommend her - professional, sensitive and does specialise in working with IVF patients (the clinic is a Traditional Chinese Medicine Gynecology clinic) Ph: 9654 7181

I also was given the contact details of a acupuncturist by my IVF clinic, and she is in Richmond I think. I can dig up those details if you like.

Studies have shown it does imrpove your odds, and I feel it helps me cope with all the ups and downs and medications etc.

thank you both for you reply

Mitchem is very close for me and is on my way home from work so that would 'fit' very well with my busy life at the moment.

Dusy - Alice was a name that i have read on here before i will be looking into a few this time i think

i was seeing a lady 1 hour away and i was having anxiety attacks after she would leave me in the room with the needles in. i know it sounds really silly but i get claustrophobic and think that i cant get up because of all the needles and panic if i'm alone in the room....crazy i know

But i guess im saying i need to see someone that will understand my phobia and not just leave me as they have another client in another room - i can be demanding i know - but i think i will get over it just got to get back into it IYKWIM

so any feedback on the was they pratice, include herbs etc would be great

    Thanks again

Lou, I have been to alice. I think I put dusty onto her. I have not had the herbs that you boil from her, but I have had lots of the little black pills. she is very traditional as she was trained in china. she puts her fingers on your wrist to feel your pulse to diagnose whether you might be pregnant or have enough "energy" to get pregnant.
She does have a few patients going at the one time but her husband is her "receptionist" and he is lovely and usually comes in to take the needles out. i am sure he would come in and check on you regularly if you needed it.
she won't let you take certain herbs while having IVF hormones and seems to thoroughly understand the IVF cycles. she gives you a program of ap prior to transfer, straight after then day 3, 6 and 9 after transfer. (i think that is correct, the memory is a bit dim now)

yep you did anney and that is how alice seems to operate. her hubby frank seems really lovely too. i am sure he would have no problem popping in to see you. the other option is to take a friend/DH along with you perhaps.

hey lou, i spoke to Alice during my AP today and she said that in the past if they have someone who doesn't like to be left alone, they can leave the door ajar near where they work so you could be heard if need be. she also said you could bring someone along if you wanted, that is not so unusual.

she did also mention that if you have the time she would probably recommend a treatment of herbs first before you do an IVF cycle, to ensure your body was in optimum condition to respond. she is very holistic in her approach.

anyway she does initial consultations for about $110, then each AP after that is $55. she sort of has a program of treatment to get women ready for IVF cycles and then during IVF.

    I HTH.

If you are having issues with the needles - why not switch to someone who does laser or electrolical acupunture?

Mum gets the laser Acp. with her normal GP for back pain and she swears by it. My brother's herbalist does it electrolical and he swear by that too - his herbalist is in Kew though.

Also - don't know what IVF clinic you are going through but they use to do laser acupunture at Melb IVF at Freemasons - you would have to check if they still do though because I have no idea.

Just one heads up thing about Alice's is if you go in the middle of winter and have an early morning appointment and are in the front room - IT'S FREZZING!!!!!!!!
But she even lectures in TCM for Monash IVF

jules, my practitioner is registered with and is a member of the Australian Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine Association - their website is here

You can search for registered practitioners on their web page but you may also want to ask around for those that specialise in, or have expertese in fertility AP in Perth.

thanks dusty. When i made the appt i just asked the receptionist if the AP had experience with treatments for ivf and she rattled off the approx intervals they do the ac. etc. Then later i realised i didn't even ask what his quals were. I like to trust that he has the quals but want to be careful too!
