Help! How can i improve my egg quality for next cycle
Hi i have just found out that i have had a m/c at 5 1/2 weeks after my IVF cycle.
My FS said i have very poor egg quality due to a chromosone disorder and that this could continue to happen.
After years of TTC and going thru lots of heartache and pain and finally getting to this point for this to happen i am devastated.
My dh and i are going to give it a few more goes and i am wondering if there is a specific diet that i should be eating?
I am getting accupuncture and going to get chinese herbs this time, also going to get back to the gym to lose the extra weight put on with all the drugs i was on.
If anyone has any advice on i would love to hear it.
Thanks
Hi Blossom,
Firsly, and so sorry to hear about your loss.
Well, okay, so I don't know too much either, but have also been told I might have egg quality issues, though never conceived and never had any testing to determine chromosomal abnormalities.
I'm assuming your doctor tested your egg/embryo? Did you have other testing?
Also, I think in the US and possibly here (I'm going to ask my FS), you would test for sperm DNA fragmentation too, in recurrent IVF failure/early miscarriage.
I think the main thing is to get some better quality info from the doctor.
As for improving egg quality, I think you can improve the ripening of the eggs (the follicular fluid) and that improves quality, eg through what you're doing (acupuncture/chinese herbs, from an experienced practitioner) and I've heard things about CoEnzyme Q10 (which can't really hurt to take - it's an anti-oxidant) and also royal jelly, preferably fresh (hard to find) and/or bee pollen (that stuff kills my stomach). Also, I've heard a high protein (lean meats, fish and legumes like lentils) and low GI diet is good. Check out: The Glycemic Index.
I guess it's also about determining, if you can, what is the cause of the eqq quality problem: is it endo? is it immune? If those are issues, they can also be treated specifically.
I have written a lot, but I know very little. I would like to improve my egg quality too. I've heard it might take around 3-6 months to really see a change, so maybe you take a few months break?
What have you heard? Anyone else?
