    Bad IVF cycle

    Hi all,
IVF, wow what a life changing experience. I wont go into great detail but my patner had sperm aspiration and I had eggs harvested and fertilised and one embryo put back in.

The day of the harvest was awful, I was in so much pain when I arrived at the hospital I was admitted straight away. Could not have pethadine cause I am allergic so had to grit my teeth and bear the pain for another 2.5 hours. Harvest went well, I was told 18 viable eggs!!!!!!! Felt so much better. Partner went well with his side aswell. Next day rung the clinic and had 10 embryo's!!!!!!! So excited was in tears. Pain coming back, I ended up with severe hypostimulated ovarian syndrome, so bad. Went ahead with one embryo transfer and was told the day after no sperm or other empryos were frozen. The heartache we felt was devastating. Not sure why no sperm was frozen and not sure why the embryo's did'nt keep growing (splitting). Apparently they all fragmented, but we have other ideas.

Anyway my DH and I are eagerly waiting for friday for my HCG blood test to see if my one little embryo has stayed inside mummy. God I hope so dearly but part of me is not allowing to get my hopes up, from the loss of all our other ones.

Today I have something telling me to take test. Do any of you ladies think it is a good idea to take a test now. I am on progynova and crinone, oh also one aspirin. I am scared of a negative result but wont be suprised if it is. God why do things have to be so hard for things that we really want?

I too had a similar experience. I had 15 eggs, 13 fertilised (although nil sperm issues with husband, his harvested the "pleasureable way".) I had a day two transfer with all except for one embryos being of poor quality. I had two put in, (obviously the good one) and they let the other 12 go to day 5. When i rang the scientists on day 5 NONE had been viable to freeze.. i was devastated... However I remember my IVF Dr saying "it only takes one" and he was right... I am now 16 weeks pregnant...

Try to focus on the positive.. you still have that embryo inside of you.. give it lots of positive energy.. and try your absolute hardest to hang in there.. as for testing... that is up to you... i didn't and my reasons being a few... to much progresterone and crinone on board.. to easy to get a false positive... and I didn't want to add extra stress to it all... but these being my personal reasons... everyone is different.. all the best xo

    Question

Thankyou both for your support. Everyone is telling me that it only takes one. Congrats on both your bubs. Hey smithy have you heard from Rhyb lately? Are her bubs still holding on in there?

I always work on the theory that any cycle where you get an embie transferred is a good cycle.

Don't beat yourself up about not getting any frozen. The first cycle is always a bit hit and miss with quality and quantity and how you react to the drugs (no Dr ever wants you to hyperstimulate). And specially if there are sperm issues there is no way of knowing what the quality will be until it is out IYKWIM.

I'm not sure what you mean when you say that you have other ideas about the fragmentation. Fragmentation is not unusual, specially if there is sperm issues. Also, it gets worse depending on what day the transfer is - do it is more likely that a day 5 embie will look fragmented than a day 3 one.

that you get a nice strong BFP on friday. As for testing early. I always did and I found that each time I saw a BFN it made me loose all hope - even when in my logical brain I knew that it was (or oculd be) too early.

    Hi Babytalk.
It's a rough ride, isn't it? You got one put back, so that's a pretty good first cycle!
I hope the BT gives you a nice fat positive result! Try to hold off on the home tests if you can.
How are you feeling with the OHSS?

    thanks

Thanks ladies. With the OHSS I have noticed in the last couple of days I am getting the symptoms bck again a little. The doctor said if I got pregnant it could get worse. If I am pregnant I hope it doesnt get as bad as last time. God I just wish I knew if it was a possitive or negative. This waiting game is boring now lol.

Oh I had the transfer on day 2 and by then they were all gone bar 2 thats why my partner and I dont understand how they can all go in that short amount of time. There is nothing wrong with the sperm, my partner just had a vasectomy and reversal didnt work so they took it from him, it was great quality. I was told my eggs looked great aswell and I am fit and healthy and young so we just dont understand. The doctor decided to implant one which is fine and the next day i was told my other embie that had 4 cells had fragmented overnight?

Anyway I guess we just have to wait and see. Thanks once again ladies.

Hey Smithy I am feeling ok today, my ovaries are giving me a bit of hell still and I think the fluid is coming back in my tummy. I woke up this morning and first thought was how am I going to last this last day without taking a test? Arrhhhh!!!! I wish it was over already, this waiting for two weeks is crappy. So when are you due with your little girl?

I know you're testing tomorrow anyway, but you can join TWW with others undergoing AC.
We also have a LT TTC & AC general chatter thread where you can meet others in similar situations.
(but hopefully you'll be pregnant soon anyway)
