DH and I have been discussing IVF and he is adament if it were successful and we had another child (my 3rd, his 2nd) then our family would be complete. It leaves me wondering if we were lucky enough to have that happen and if we had any snowbabies what would happen to them? Can you decide to donate them? I know my friend was asked this when her marriage broke up what she wanted done with her remaining frozen embys and she opted to have her's discarded (if thats the right word for it) they said she could donate them or they could be used for testing/research but she didn't want either of those options. This was 15years ago now. Can you just decide to donate any that might be left or is there more to it then that? I personally (depending on numbers) would like to give them a chance at life weather that was in myself or someone else. DH said after what we had been through he would want to close the book for us if and when we have another child.
We have similar options - donate for research, donate to another couple or destroy.
I couldn't bring myself to destroy them for no reason & I didn't want to find out in 18 years that I have another child out there somewhere. Our decision was to donate them for research, that way even though they do end up destroyed as such at least they will be helping to perfect techniques used for other couples.
At the moment we have three embryos in storage, they may end up all donated after we acheived an IVF pregnancy & I am now pregnant with a natural miracle.
We have decided to donate all excess sperm, eggs, & embryos. I'd love for someone else to have the oppurtunity that otherwise may not be available to them.

We too have the options of donating to another couple, destroying or being used for research. Unitially i thought we would donate them for research but after having my ds, i think that we will donate any remaining embies, once we have finished our family, to another couple. I guess i would like the remaining embies a chance a becoming a wonderful baby like mine!
We had the same 3 options, discard them, donate to research or donate to another couple. We decided for various reasons that none of those options were suitable for us and we would have used up all our embies ourselves and if we ended up with a larger family than we planned then that was the way it was meant to be. I would have donated to another couple too but DH was not a big fan of that option. I agree with FG, because we already had DD1 we wanted to give any excess embies a chance.
Fortunately (for us) we didn't have any left over after our BFP.
Thanks you all for your replies. We are yet to go down that track but its likely unless I get a miracle BFP in the next 5months. DH and I have been speaking about it and if we were to have a baby and any were left what we would do.He said he wouldn't be keen on donating them to someone else but I I would like to donate them if we were in that position. I guess its not something we need to worry about yet but I was wondering if donating was an easy option if we were to ever be in that position or what other options there would be. I personally would want to try again myself but I can understand DH saying enough is enough if we were to have another baby.
Thanks again
