IVF with PGD #6

Hi everyone! Sorry for long time between posts... I really am the world's worst poster!

Mia's mama - 5/6 fertilised is great!!! Good luck for results - can't wait to hear how you go, I'm sure there'll be at least one ok in there!
I have 4 embryos the first PGD cycle - I know what it's like to get "poor" egg numbers - they had me on the maximal dose of 600 units FSH the last 2 fresh cycles which is super-depressing. I brought up egg donors before my Gynae could but he seemed to think it was all going to be ok. So don't give up on your eggs yet!! He also gave me Luveris for 5 days this cycle, which is LH. Maybe that's what helped??? Who knows. Anyway, thinking about you and hoping it's all ok. Are you transferring one or two embryos?

AFM, am 10 weeks and going for another US tmrw. US 1 1/2 weeks ago was ok, I've just been super-anxious given the 3 previous m/c but everything seems to be going fine. Still keeping my fingers tightly crossed and haven't told many people... waiting until 12 weeks, not long now. Thanks for all your thoughts!

Thanks for all the thoughts...No good eggs for me. I'm not sure what to think or do. They were all perfect BUT, all had different chromosome abnormalities...again. From some reason, this has been the problem and not chromosome 22 as suspected. I am upset with my doctor as I told her I wanted better numbers this time...if not I wanted to cancel the cycle. But, to be told confidently I had 9-12. Great! But, to only have 6 retrieved, I was upset....mainly with my doctor.

foxy- Can you please tell me about your doctor? You're at MIVF, right? If we do it all again, I will need to find a new one. She told me the max dose was 450, started me on 375 until the first u/s and then increased to 450. "I've given you the max dosage, there is nothing more I can do for you". Enough of me!!! Sooooo happy for you! 10 weeks!!! That is amazing!

molisa - Still thinking of you and hoping the best for this pea pod...going so well so far!!!

Oh dear Mias mama, i am so so sad for you. I really thought you'd get a transfer this time :(
New Dr sounds good, cant hurt to have a change. I always raged after my unsuccessful cycles, all i can say is go thru the emotions, feel the grief because even if ppl dont 'get it' in real life, all those feeling and are so real. You need to feel them, live them, then brush off your knees and start again.

Mia's Mama, I'm so sorry to hear you didn't get any healthy embryos to transfer :( Please don't take it all out on yourself. I was extremely surprised when out of two cycles and 18 embryos that were tested, we only got one precious embryo that was free of chromosomal abnormalities. I had no idea the rate of abnormalities was that high until getting all the results.

If you are unhappy with your doctor then I think it's a good idea to have a change. When I initially started going through MIVF I saw a lovely doctor that was really supportive. Her name was dr. Manuela Toledo.

Also sorry it's taken so long for me to reply - our internet at home has been out of action for 2 weeks or so.

I saw Dr Michael Gronow at MIVF - he was the second Dr I went to as I was getting frustrated with my first Dr who just kept wanting to do the same things despite things obviously not working. Michael was great, was very sympathetic to all our failed attempts plus was willing to try whatever I wanted - quite rare in a doctor I think!
You could ask him about Luveris too, which may (??) have helped with egg numbers and/or egg quality - it's a 5 day course of injections from D1 of the FSH injections. Also are you and your partner taking CoQ10? I think this may (??) have helped too (but who knows).
I also went on a gluten and dairy free diet (crazy, I know), no caffeine, no alcohol, no sugar. I nearly went crazy and I have no idea if it helped or not.
Also weekly acupuncture for "egg quality".
I have no idea what worked but maybe it was a combination of things plus also just plain good luck finally...


I know how incredibly frustrating/upsetting/devastating it is, also how no one else seems to understand - try not to give up if you can because you will definitely get there and it all the pain/heartache/devastation/even money is worth it when you do.
Your time will definitely come.

Yesterday was a really bad day for me. My cat gave me three deep scratches on my right palm. While I was waiting in the medical centre for a clean-up, I started to have bad bleeding and severe cramping. The u/s this afternoon showed that the baby has died though my OB thought this pregnancy was promising, which had normal heartbeat 4 days ago. There was good news. The technician said it is going to be a natural miscarriage- the sac has moved to the lower uterus, and I am waiting it to happen.

I reported this pregnancy to my IVF Doc, he is really good and monitoring the progress although we haven’t started the IVF/PGD with him yet. The PGD set up should be ready next week. I have to prepare myself for that both physically and emotionally very soon.

Mia’s mum, I guess we both need to hang in there and try not to give up. I am not a very optimistic person, but I will definitely try my best.

Oh Molisa I am so sorry. So so sorry. I just don't understand why people have to go through so much pain and heartache. I just hope your pgd cycle is a success. You really deserve it after everything you have been thru. Please keep us posted.

Hey Ladies..... I've been on a little down time from belly belly while I catch up on my life!! Darrin, my partner and I have decided to wait until after our wedding in June to do our next cycle. To be honest, with work, uni and wedding plans, I just don't know how much more I can take on. And I think it will be best if I try to do one thing at a time for once.

Molissa, you are in my thoughts. I know that life just throws the most unfair spanners at times, but I have faith that one day that all us girls still trying will be pregnant and loving every minute of it!

Hi Ladies,

This miscarriage left me a big mess. I was spotting/bleeding for almost a month after M/C and it finally stopped last week. While I was doing U/S to monitor the remained products, I witnessed the growth of two large ovary cysts. Because of them, my PGD would have to be delayed until they disappear. Has any of you ever had them? Is there any ways to get rid of them quickly?

The hospital ER put the embryo specimen into the wrong solution so no Karyotype test was done for this pregnancy. To make things worse, the latest u/s even found a fibroid in my uterus which has never been reported before though I have done 8 u/s in the last one and half months. Things are going totally against my will and they are driving me crazy. DH is very guilty and depressed for putting me through these. What Can I do?

Molisa - so sorry to hear you've had such a hard time. That totally sucks big time. I don't know anything that can get rid of ovarian cysts except an operation but sometimes they put women on the pill in between IVF cycles which can reduce the cysts in size so women can start again. How many cm in size are they? And where is the fibroid located - if it's inside your womb, that can sometimes impact on implantation but not on embryo quality. Make sure to ask your Gynae if anything needs to be done about it. I have a small one on the outside of my womb, which doesn't really cause any problems. That is no good that they put the specimen in the wrong jar. How disappointing for you both. I'm so sorry. I hope you can go ahead with another cycle soon if that's your plan.

Mia's mumma - glad to be of help. How have things gone with THE MAN?? It's so good to get the most expert advice you can, I hope he has some good advice for you both.

Molisa - sounds very sensible to put PGD on hold for now, it's so hard to go so many things at once hey?

AFM - I guess I'm proof that it can happen against all odds - severe endo, high FSH, multiple miscarriages (3), multiple cycles failed IVF, 1 cycle failed PGD with no normal embryos... I seriously had almost given up hope. So try to keep hanging in there everyone! I'm 18 weeks, completely stressed out of my brain as usual - what's new?? I think after all the effort, expense, emotional devastation to get to this point, it feels so scary to contemplate it not working out. Just keeping my fingers crossed... and hoping like mad.

Foxy, I did another U/S at a much better imaging centre. One cyst is gone and another one should be able to disappear soon. My specialist is in holiday, but according to the Dr who did the U/S for me (he is a very good GYN specialist himself) ,that tiny fibroid doesn't affect my pregnancy at all. They are even not sure if it is a fibroid or not because it doesn't have a clear edge. It might be caused by my last miscarriage. I am planning to start the PGD in Jan if everything is going well. So great to hear you are having two girls! I have asked my IVF specialist to implant two if possible but he didn't agree. :(

Molisa - It sounds like everything is falling back into place. I really do hope the best for you next month. I'd want two embryos too! Spouses/partners go through a lot.... It's good you know it, so you can support him. I would get so focused on myself, procedures, meds, bullsh#t...I'd forget about him and his feelings. The second go of IVF was much better for us.

Foxy - Awww, girls. That is sweet. You're almost halfway! Awesome. Over here, I can't wait to see the man. Can I call him the dude?

The doctor said he's going to have his colleagues look at my chromosomal abnormality. At Royal Women's they weren't able to positively say if it was the cause of my recurrent miscarriages. He also said fish testing was outdated and would have never recommended it! We've gone through two failed cycles of PGD...lots of heartache. He is in favor of CGH testing and said fish will be abandoned in the next few years. So, hopefully in the next couple weeks we'll have some answers and guidance!

I know they've just started using CGH at Melbourne IVF and have been using it for a little while at Sydney IVF. It is supposed to be better than FISH, I would have done it if it had been available. Let us know what you're up to.

FOxy - We're back in Aus. I got your private message thing (THANK YOU!!), did a long reply...hit send and this wonderful website lost it. It made me sooo mad!! I am waiting to hear from the doctor in the US. He and his colleagues are reviewing my case.

Foxy77- It is my first cycle, my FS said everything is going as expected.

Mia's Mum-I had a look of Emails from my PGD scientist. I am using PCR method. They do CGH at SIVF, but for DH's specific case, it might not be appropriate. In addition, CGH methods don't distinguish the normal ones from carrier which is part of our requests.

Just a quick update. I did my first U/S and third BT this morning. There are 12 follicles in total. The nurse called and said my FS is very happy with the results (why?). I will do another BT and U/S this Saturday.

Have no idea about the EPU date. I even don't know the follicle sizes and my BT results. My FS only told me whether he is happy or not about the results through nurses. I used to ask and research a lot. He was unhappy and told me let him control the medical process because I tried to arrange U/S by myself. :( I decided to leave everything to him this time since everyone tells me that I am in good hands.

I found my most successful cycle (this one) was the one where i gave up all control and went with the flow, so much more relaxed!
