Unhappy HELP ... CR*POLA day 8 scan with cyst ..

    Hi girls,

it's been a long time since i've posted as i've had 4 month break from ivf while moving back to perth.

Since my return to my original perth clinic they've doubled my FSH dose that was already the max in Adelaide (ie from 300 puregon to a massive 600!), plus added prednisolone, DHEA AND growth hormone and changed from orgalutran to lucrin for this cycle. so they've brought out the big guns, which was a daunting prospect, and I was given a false sense of confidence that i'd improve my usual low response ... but today is day 8 for my first scan and it was TERRIBLE.

Not only just 2 small folli's on my right, but a 3.1cm blood-filled complex cyst on my left !! I was floored, i've never had a cyst before. I find out in a few hours what is going to happen but I am trying to prepare myself for the inevitability of a cancelled cycle.

Has anyone ever had this happen before - did it lead to cancelled cycle, and did you need surgery to drain the cyst ?

I'm starting to think we've already used our allocated miracle (our now 2 year old son).. who I'm forever grateful for but had hoped for a sibling for him. It's disappointing to be facing the fact we may need to just let things be .. I don't want to put my health at risk with all that drug treatment ... :-(

I've had a cyst with a cycle before, I don't know if it was the same type of cyst, but we had a trigger shot to get rid of it. They explained that if they went ahead with the cycle, then the cyst would basically absorb all the hormones and grow massive and I wouldn't get any eggs at all. So definitely better to make sure it has gone before you continue.

HI BW, thanks for your reply, yes they did end up cancelling the cycle.. I'm now on provera for 3 weeks then I guess will start again some time soon after that. They reckon the drugs were unrelated, but i'm still not very convinced..

Congratulations on your bubba, I remember your difficult journey a few years back, so happy that you had success!

I thought I recognised your username! Thank you.

Hopefully the cyst will disappear in the three weeks on provera and next cycle will go without a hitch.

I had a huge cyst on day 3 of my cycle but lots of follicles so my FS pushed on yes it is true that the cyst absorbs a lot of the hormones out of my 23+ follicles only 6 were mature the FS just made my cycle longer 17 days insted of 10-12 and out of the 6 we had 5 fertilised and i am now almost 35 weeks pregnant so i hope it works out for you even though ideally you would respond better with no cyst.

That happened to me on my first cycle, but we continued. Didn't get any eggs though so got cancelled after that obviously.
    All the best

Thanks for replies girls. I've decided to go ahead with next cycle as already prescribed - but if it happens again I'll be very annoyed. My clinic says they get maybe 1 of these "cases" a month, and doesn't mean it will happen again with subsequent cycles. My doctors all say that taking higher doses of FSH won't increase the speed of follicle growth -but should grow MORE folli's... I really hope this is the case. Maybe I can ask for an early day 5 or 6 scan just to check there's no misbehaving single follicle!
