External os stenosis / cervical canal stenosis

    Hi girls,

Im wondering if anyone is has experienced this or give me a little more info. My partner and i have been TTC for 13 months now. I have been to repromed in adelaide and was booked in for a HSG today. Unfortunately they couldn't proceed with this test as they couldn't get the catheter through my cervix. The dr called it an "external os stenosis". Have tried looking on the net but not much info regarding this. Basically im blocked, i guess it means there is a blockage of some sort over my cervix? Do you know if conception can still occur??

    Hi Jodes76,

I too have had an HSG along with many other things. I also had many a problem with getting catheters etc thru my cervix. I was told I had too much "muscle tone" in my cervix. I bled in my HSG and my IUIs. I have been TTC for 2 years and have been down every avenue. I finally caved in and had a laparoscopy two weeks ago and they said my cerivx is not opening properly. They dilated me to birth size so fingers crossed that helps. My doc now says that they have tried to clear any blockages so I should try and conceive on my own. He did also say that it's possible my cervix was contributing to my problem. There is hope. I wish you much luck and if you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

LIke I said, there is hope.Chin up. We all get there in the end

    cervical stenosis

hi, this is my first post , i have been lurking in these forums since my missed miscarriage (found at 12 weeks 15 sep 2008), i had a d&c 1 aug and am still awaiting my first AF
my gynae suspects cervical stenois as i have had progesterone checks and am ovulating but no af (prog went from 79 to 2) this was accompaned by wicked cramps. i went for an ultrasond last week and it showed all normal except there was fluid (most likely blood) within the uterine cavity. i am booked into hossy in 3 weeks he wants to do a dilation and a hystoscopy (??spelling), he wants to also do a biopsy of the lining, but i am reluctant as i don't want them messing with anything in there again.
i am no expert but as i understand the cervix is a muscle and can spasam shut, or in my case maybe scared/trumatised (from the D&C and pervious C/S) so is not letting anything in (spermies) or out (AF).
the other possibilites for me are uterine adhesions (ashermans) or damaged lining. i have read loads on the internet, of people spouting that once you ovulate that you have to get AF, well currently i am an exception
