To my darling friends,

I know that for many of us Christmas can be a particularly difficult time. It can be a time when we are faced with the babies, children or pregnancies of family and friends. A time when we are faced with awkward questions from well meaning relatives - "So when are you going to start a family?". A time when it seems like everywhere we turn are stark reminders of what we don't have; the emptiness in our hearts which we keep hoping, praying will one day be filled with a child.

It is a pain that no one could even begin to understand, unless they have felt it themselves.

I know for me, each and every year I say to myself that this Christmas will be the last before I have a baby or are pregnant. Tomorrow will be hard for me because I am finally having to face the fact that this is it for us. The one thing I want to give my gorgeous, perfect DP, I will never be able to give him.

I know I am not alone though.

I wanted to say to you all that if things start to feel overwhelming or confronting tomorrow and you feel alone and like no one understands, to remember that you are not alone either. It is hard, but take a deep breath, ignore the nosy people, the gushingly pregnant, the cute newborns. Hold your head high and smile even though your heart is breaking. You are a beautiful, capable woman and you are not defined by your struggle with fertility. Enjoy the day, have a couple of drinks, eat some soft cheese and seafood and give your other half a hug. Take the day off from your journey and enjoy being you. You deserve it.

I pray that 2013 is a much better year for all of us, a year wherein either our dreams finally come true or we are blessed with strength and acceptance to move forward with peace.
