Anti sperm antibodies...now they tell us!

Late last year we did the relevant tests etc so we were ready to go with IVF in 2009, so on we had an appointment with our FS. At this appointment our FS told us that the test indicated that it is most likely that we are not getting pregnant due to male anti-sperm antibodies. What the...! Over the past 6 years of TTC we have done numerous test and this is the first that this has come up. According to the FS the previous tests DH would have endured do not test for anti-sperm antibodies. Big question is - WHY NOT?

Anyway, rather than getting frustrated about finally getting an explanation to longstanding unexplained infertility we are keeping the zen. Besides the outcome is the same, it still means IVF and we are scheduled to begin shortly.

I am sure all the posts and knowledge in this forum are going to be a great help.

I am sorry that it has taken them this long to identify that that is an issue. But unfortunately it seems to be the way with ART much of the time. You solve one problem (or find a way around it) and then the next one appears.

It sounds like you are onto a good FS now who is covering all bases.

We are in this boat - amongst other problems with his sperm, my DH has sperm antibodies also. I didn't know there was a seperate test and thought, like you, that this would have been done with the initial sperm analysis. We were all ready to start an IUI cycle and then a couple of days before the clinic rang and said ummm no you can't you have to have this test and of course we were positive so that was the end of that.

Its very very frustrating I know!!!!
