    Estrogen still high...why? ovarian cyst?

Hi everyone, as many of you know my recent IVF cycle was cancelled as my hormones weren't baseline. My progesterone and LH were, but estrogen wasn't during two successive weeks.
It's another week on and I have had a very light bleeding for 2 days and now nothing.
I am preparing to start the pill tomorrow, but asked my IVF nurse if the very light bleeding qualified as a period.
She asked me to do a blood test...the results show, that again my estrogen is high ..even higher than this time last week, and the other hormones remain baseline (so i am not pregnant!). She said to start the pill anyway, but I have to have a scan on monday to check for a cyst that might be causing the estrogen levels. Then maybe have to take action. I am pretty much over my body right now and over it all.

Any ideas on what might be going on? or similar experiences?

    thanks

    Hi Possums,
I had my very first ivf cycle delayed because of a cyst found during a routine u/s. It was a rather large cyst- 6cm and I was told that I would need a lap to have it aspirated. Very frustrated as it meant further delays for treatment and I was itching to begin. They said it may resolve on it's own and my lap was booked. Turned out, it did resolve itself, at my next u/s it had shrunk right down to only 1 or 2 mm and the nurses gave me the all clear to start and my lap was canceled. HTH

Possums, I have no idea but I just wanted to drop in and say that I'm thinking of you.

I hope that you get some answers soon.

Sorry, I'm not helpful at all.

    Hi thanks ladies,

I went in for a scan today and they saw a 4cm cyst on my right ovary. They believe that is why I did not respond to synarel (estrogen stayed high) and why estrogen is still high.
As a result, we can't proceed with a cycle until the cyst resolves itself, which they say will be around 1-3 months. I am pretty upset and disappointed and angry about it all. Why does everything have to be so difficult! Why can't I even just proceed with an IVF cycle smoothly? sorry, but am pretty woe is me just now.
Plus yesterday was the due date of my second baby.

Hi Emma, I am so sorry to hear your news regarding the cyst, I know how frustrating the delays are. I had 3 x 2cm cysts last month, and some funny E2 and P4 levels. I had a scan on Fri, it seems they have resolved themselves already (40 days later), so there is hope for you that it won't take the full 3 months. Also, I know you were looking into antagonist cycles, is this an option so you don't have to take that full month on the pill?

And so sorry about today's date, as Sue said, there are no words, I pray you will get your forever baby soon. Big hugs

 so sorry hun that you have to go through this...I know exactly what you are feeling as I went through exactly same emotion just two days ago (of finding out my NK cell levels and potentially have to do a hysteropscopy for my fibriod), why things can't be simple, seems once we get over one hurdle another comes along...this TTC journey is sooo not for faint hearted. But I know in time all the hope will resume and we will get over it because the desire to have a bub in our arms are too strong to be defeated by these small obstacles.

Now onto the cyst, I once had a 4cm one before the IVF journey. My GP told me to have another scan in 6 weeks time and she said most of them will dissolve themselves. Sure enought its gone in the next scan. Also remember to request scan early in the cycle (ie. a few days AF finishes) not mid cycle to because you are more likely to see cysts during mid cycle. Anything under 4cm they wouldn't worry so I think yours is on the borderline just like mine, its more likely to dissovle itself and you definitely shouldn't need to wait 3 months to find an answer. After one menstal bleed should be enough. The only thing I'd check is the light bleeding, I don't have much experience in that, but do ask if the cyst brought that on.

Chin up hun and hopefully this will be the one relatively ease to get over, all you need is just one month wait.

Possums, my clinic discovered a 3cm cyst on my ovary during a Clomid/IUI cycle last year, it resulted in our 3rd and final attempt at IUI before starting IVF being cancelled. I'm so sorry it is so hard to deal with hurdle after hurdle not to mention even getting to first base isn't it? Anyway, I had a scan 3 weeks later on CD1 of my next cycle and the cyst had gone, so I too would say that there is hope that you won't have to wait for 3 months for it to resolve. My clinic nurse at the time said the majority of them resolve by the start of the next cycle.

Big for you for the due date of your angel, I certainly understand it makes everything even harder to deal with

    Hugs to you

I am hoping you feel a little better today Emma, and some of your concerns were helped with the replies of your BB pals.

Did they suggest trying naturally while you wait for the cyst to settle, or do you need to
put natural ttc on hold as well?

I am off for a scan as well, next week, my body seems to be doing it's own thing as well. Hopefully your af removes the cyst quite quickly . And you can re-commence your ac.

Thinking of you, perhaps a nice hour long massage is in order, something special to pamper yourself

Possums so sorry to hear that there is another stone on your way. Think WLAB made an excellent suggestion.

    Take care

Thanks everyone as usual for your wonderful support. Your replies about cysts resolving themselves fairly quickly have made me feel better.
I would have responded sooner, but I have been home unwell this week, and my computer is playing up, so I couldn't get online.
I am feeling better than I was too, and am resolved to try and be more positive again.
I know i have been pretty down on here lately and would like to thank you all for being there for me and helping me through the rough bits.
I saw my naturopath yesterday to help me get well, and he's also given me stuff to help clear the cyst and balance everything, before I start the next cycle.
    Thanks again

ps WLAB- good luck with your scan- have you had that yet? I hope you can get on track again soon. I have been told to stay on the pill, so no natural TTC for now

CP- sorry you are having to deal with so much just now

Went back to my naturopath today finally with my blood results. He is very concerned about my thyroid antibodies being so high (a separate lots of raised antibodies to the antiphospholipid ones) and he wants me to take supplements to try and reduce them and have me on a special diet...he thinks I should wait a couple of months before resuming IVF, regardless of what the cyst does.
I should have gone to see him 2 months ago with the blood results, but for some reason I just didnt think it was something he could treat.

I have also found a new acupuncturist/herbalist, who also wants to work with me for a couple of months at least.

I have decided it's worth waiting, rather than risking the heartache of another miscarriage that could maybe be avoided..so that's my update

Sounds like a great plan Possum, I am glad you get checked out and found some experienced professionals to treat it as a result. Best things come to those who wait! Hoping to start again together in a few months time, as you know, I am in waiting mode as well.
