    Aspirin/Heperin & IVF?

    Hi Guys

I saw my FS today and after 3 failed IVF cycles, she wants to put me on Aspirin & Heperin next cycle. My husband and I have had all the genetic and blood clotting testing etc and it all came back clear.

Has anyone else used these in conjunction with IVF and had success? Also just a quick one i googled heperin and found out to my dismay it is an injection, does anyone know what is like?

My husband is also being sent for DNA fragility semen analysis, and help on that one would be great too!

Any stories or advice would be greatly appreciated

    Thanks

    Shannon

Not sure how it would work with IVF but I have heard that asprin can assist with someone that M/C frequently.

    Hi Shannon
The clinic put me on aspirin for my cycles and I'm now pregnant, though don't know if it's anything to do with that. they found some sort of clotting issue with my blood, or something...
Hopefully someone else can help you with the other questions
    good luck

    Hi Shannon,
When going through FS I was advised to take Cardiprin (low dose asprin) to increase the blood supply to the endemetrium lining by having a heathy thick lining increases implantation. Heprin is a more concentrated blood thinning agent, maybe when your levels came back after a cycle it showed a slight beta and this will assist the implantation and a healthy embie. Injection sting alittle and tend to leave bruises but all worth it
    Good luck

When I did my 2nd Stim cycle (successful with twins) I did the colorado technique which included low dose aspiran for 34 weeks. I believe it thins your blood, how it helps I don't know but I am currently doing a Frozen cycle and have opted for colorado technique again.

My Doc said studies have been done that support the use of asprin with thyroid antibodies that create other antibodies that cannot be detected . Who knows!!! If it works let me no hehehe

    Hi Shannon,

I have a blood clotting disorder (runs in my family) and I have to have self-injectable blood thinner in certain situations. We all have a packet in our fridges in my family!

Most blood thinners are injections unfortunately .
Heperin is usually two injections a day . There are plenty of others that are only once a day like Clexane. They do sting - they hurt more than the hormone injections that you use on IVF but it only lasts a few minutes and that's it. You may get a few bruises though once your blood starts to thin out. I look like a pin cushion by day 2/3. Its lovely!!!!

Warafin is the pill form and you can't take it in the early stages of pregnancy as it causes problems. Apparently if you have to use it, you can only use it in the second trimester. First and third are out. So I assume that would also cover pre pregnancy stages. Plus with warafin you have to get constant blood tests to make sure your blood isn't getting too thin! But you don't have to with the injectionable stuff.

Can I ask - I am curious as to why your FS wants to put you on both aspirin and Heperin??? That will thin your blood out quite alot. I would assume having blood too thin would be the same as having blood too thick?

I don't know what the answer is, I would have thought that since I have a known blood disorder that maybe thinning my blood would help alittle but I asked my FS if I should use my injections on my last IVF transfer and he said that there is no evidence that it helps.

told that It is believed that asprin works the opposite way in the uterus dont ask me how that is what my GP said but 2 FS 's said they disagree. I think it depends on how up to date some docs are on the current studies and how willing they are on trying new things

I am very confused about the whole blood issue. One thing that is a definite is that I must be on blood thinners whilst pregnant if I become pregnant.

Thankyou ladies for the advice, i really appreciate it! I have no idea really but i am hoping the dr knows what she is talking about and thats why i pay her the big $$$. All our tests have come back clear for blood clotting disorders etc. So i guess we will just try it next cycle and hope for the best. Although i have never bruised until i started acupuncture this year and had my first bruises ever. So maybe it will help... who knows we will try anything in this fun game of assisted conception

Bruises in acunpunture are a good sign. It means the blood is going to the area and working its magic!

You bruise alot easier when you are on blood thinners. You also have to be careful with yourself, like cuts etc. They take forever to stop!

    Hey Shannon,

I have a genetic blood clotting disorder and I am on Clexane daily. If this ends with a successful pg the FS said that I would only need to be on it for the first trimester with my metformin (for PCOS) and then I would be weaned off both. The injections hurt no more than the puregon injections but I do look like a bit of a pin cushion with all the bruises on my belly. My mum had her first DVT during her first pg but I have never experienced one but this is more for safety than anything else I think.

    Good Luck!

I'm ACA/ANA +ve and was lucky enough to get away with only have asprin daily. However, my DD is from IVF cycle using asprin but my DS who is a miracle natural conception I didn't need the asprin but was monitored via bts every two weeks.
