I just can't find a straight answer on the net about this and i'm hoping you ladies can help me...
I was thinking of taking vitex to ovulate earlier, as i always ovulate late in my long, irregular cycles. Problem is, I took vitex before and fell preg that same month, however m/c'd and fear it is because i stopped vitex cold turkey when i got bfp.
So i was looking for alternatives and found no clear info, then thought maybe i can take the vitex and if i do fall pregnant start straight away onfalse unicorn root.
or should i just take false unicorn root all the way???
I would just keep taking vitex if i did fall preg until placenta kicks in, but i've heard that it is not recommended to take vitex during preg (mind you others say the opposite! )
Somebody save me! i only have 6 days until af is over
i have read that you shouldn't take vitex if pg. i haven't heard of false unicorn root so im not sure what that does. maybe head into a health food store and have a chat with the natropath.
good luck hun, i hope it all helps to get your sticky bub
From what I've researched, Vitex works by regulating your cycle. Therefore it should help your long irregular cycles become more regular so that you know when ovulation is due. You may already know this but in case you dont - you don't necessarily ovulate on day 14 or exactly halfway through your cycle, but ovulation occurs 14 days before your period.
This info is sometimes only useful in hindsight, but if you take vitex and get your cylces regular, then you should start to know the length of what your cycles normally are and calulate ovulation by subtracting 14 days from the length of your cycle.
Vitex can also take 3 cycles to really get into your system before you start to see some improvements. It's annoying I know, but that is how it works!
As for m/cd- I know that vitex works by raising progesterone, and a drop in progesterone can cause m/c. have you had a blood test to check what your progesterone levels are like?
False Unicorn is a really excellent herb for fermale fertility. It can help women with PCOS and also help with heavy periods. It's very expensive tho, and as far as I know you can only get it through a naturopath.
Thanks Liz28 & Josey for taking the time out to respond.
Since false uicorn root is a troubleto get i'll probably just stick to vitex, and rather than stopping cold turkey last time (which i think may have caused my m/c - due to progestrone) i will easy myself off if i happen to get a BFP one of these days
