I was just wondering what happens with a FET. We only have 1 "baby" left in the freezer (we only had 2 fertlise in our first round of ICIS - our first cycle has just failed) and I have no idea what happens.
What happens on the cycle - do they give you drugs or do they let you go natural and just keep an eye on when you ovulate or do they just shut your whole system down so to speak so that you dont' produce any eggs and then just pick a date that is convenient?
Sorry for the somewhat "ill informed" questions - I find it easier to come here first rather than sift through a lot of stuff on google
Natural FETs are done when they monitor ovulation and pick the right time to put the embryo back.
HRT FETs are when they completely control the body's hormones and wait until the lining is thick enough... and I believe you are on drugs to support the pregnancy up until the placenta takes over.
I've only ever done semi-natural FETs - I need to take drugs to induce ovulation first, and have found them to be quite manageable, but I'm sure someone can tell you more about the other type.
I had two FET cycles and both were done with clomid. I don't O by myself very often because of PCOS so I would start the clomid and get to the perfect time where my lining was perfect and due to O and the embryos were transferred. It was a while ago now but I think I used progesterone pressaries after the transfer too. I fell on my second FET with my last two embryos!! Good luck. Hope your little snow bub likes its new home when it is implanted.
i am doing a FET this month a natural cycle as i ovulate every month but i am using pregnyl to help me produce more projesterone as i had a few BFN. could be both ways and your fs will explain to you. good luck to you
Hi kasam.
A HRT FET is where you take estrogen in the first half of your cycle, and then take progesterone in the second half - simulating a real cycle. The clinic will monitor your endo lining and estrogen levels and put the embryo back when its right.
BTW the estrogen is in tablet form, while progesterone is either in pessaries or gel.
hi kasam ... we are like identical sisters. bt on the same day, BFN, only 1 frostie...
eerie.. lol...
glad you posted... i have one other question if you don't mind a bit of a hijack... how much prep do they do... do you have to have constant BTs to watch your levels so they know you've Od? Also, i think my clinic said after a failed ivf full cycle we would have to wait a month before doing anything (life FET)... is this what everyone has been told?
