A few questions about clomid and provera

    Hi guys,

Just wondering how many cycles of Clomid did it take for you to be UTD?

    Are there any side effects?

Im due to take Clomid for the first time in a few weeks but firstly i have to bring on AF with Provera.

I havent had AF for over 96 days now, but was also wondering if i should wait. DH and I DTD on the weekend. Should i wait for 14days and test to see if im pregnant before taking Provena?

What happens if i do take it and I happen to be UTD?

Sorry so many questions, this is all new to me.

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Mum2,

I was in the same boat just yesterday, wondering whether to get the P4 to bring on AF and risk being pregnant... but thankfully AF arrived. I personally would have waited for 14 days since the last DTD and do a pregnancy test before getting the Provera but I can also understand that after 96 days you are probably sick of it!

Sorry I can't help with the other questions, I've never been on clomid before either.

Best of luck on your TTC journey.

    Thanks there PX.

Best of luck to you too!

I think i will wait, altough I really really doubt i will get pregnant, better to be safe than sorry.

Will you be going on clomid as well or have you started?

    Hey hun,

I've never taken Provera, but if I was in your situation... I would wait. Just in case.

I've done Clomid x 3 in the past, and I'm thinking once I have my tube removed in a few weeks, I'll have to start it again.

I don't want to scare you, but it's commonly known as 'the stuff that turns Nic into a devil woman' in our house

I pretty much get every symptom under the sun... hot flushes, headaches, dizzy, PMT like feelings, the works.

Another thing I noticed is that it dried up my CM as well, so I would recommend OPKs while you're using it so you don't miss O time.

Side effects vary from person to person though, so hopefully you'll be one of the lucky ones who get none!!

I've got my for you chicky xo

Ive got my fingers crossed for you too!!!

Oh gosh, not looking forward to it!
I read some side effects on Provera and it has already scared the crap out of me!!! (wish it would have scared the AF out of me instead lol!!!)

Thanks for the well wishes girls xo

Don't stress about it hun... everything will be fine!!

I was given a good tip too - always take the Clomid just before dinner. That way if the hot flushes etc start, you'll be at home and can (hopefully) sleep through it all. That worked for me the first 2 times I took it...

Mum2 - we have one natural cycle first to get baseline bloods, then I'm on clomid for the second cycle (so probably starting in december). I haven't O'd in months and months.... Aparantly acupuncture can also bring on AF but again I don't know what would happen if you were actually pregnant when you had this done.

Elocin - Thanks for mentioning the drying up of CM on clomid, we bought some preseed just incase. Best of luck with the op.

I've used both. I had gone 103 days without Af. The fs just said to take it the next day he knew from my bloods I hadn't ovulated my progesterone was so low. With the clomid I did 4 cycles. 1st was 50mg and I didn't ovulate. The second was 100mg and I had a bt on cd23 I think to see if I had ovulated. I had hot flushes that's about it. Good luck hun

I've never had provena, but have had chlomid.

I got shockers of hot flushes (to the extent that I would go to the bathroom at work, take of my shirt and press my back against the tile walls until I'd cooled off enough to face putting my shirt back on and going back into the office) but that was the only side effect I can think of at the moment ...

Elocin's comment re taking them before dinner and sleeping through the flushes is a super idea - I'll have to keep that in mind if we need to go back to cholmid when we TTC # 2!

Good news though - despite doing an OPK every day after taking the chlomid and having them *all* say "no", and getting an internal ultrasound to see if I'd ovulated, and it saying "no" we very soon after wards found out that science only takes you so far ... because we were UTD after only one round!!

I know we were extremely blessed, but fingers crossed you will be lucky, and it will hit the spot for you too!

re the waiting 14 days, I definately would too ... it's worth the wait

    Hi Mum2,
I just posted pretty much the same thing! I think most my questions have been answered now I am starting clomid tonight. I have a script for provera, but AF came on Saturday so i won't need it this cycle. It's a bit scary though, worried about the side effects. I have been told to take it at night as well. We are also buying some preseed, i have heard good things about that stuff!

Hope the clomid works for us both Fingers crossed!

Doh I just lost a big answer I typed out.....

It's a sperm friendly lube, most other lubes are harmful. I got it from the LC webpage (I think!) but a google search will bring up local stockists.

OMG everybody if u are ttc and havent tried preseed get ur hands onto some! I am one of the success stories.. i also have a friend who hasnt been on any contraception for 3 yrs but only started tracking her cycles 6 months ago.. so trying but not trying for 3.5 yrs IYKWIM and has never fallen pg.. UNTIL she tried out preseed and she is now 6 weeks pg! Its amazing!! My dh jokes that it has someone elses swimmers in it..
Here is the link.. i highly recommend it! Read some of the users stories too! Pre-seed personal lubricant. "Fertility-Friendly" Sperm safe personal lubricant, sperm friendly personal lubricant. Pre-seed conception lubricant. Oh and u dont only need it if u have.. um.. dryness issues.. (tmi!) i have never had a problem in that department.. apparently it just mimics the womans natural ewcm and helps the little sperms swim to the egg.

Now to answer ur questions Mum2onesweetbun!

I used clomid for 5 cycles.. the first cycle tho my gyno didnt make it too clear as to when i wld O or anything so we missed it! Clomid can give u false +ives on opks if u test too close to finishing the last pill.. i did this and assumed i was Oing. So the fact that it didnt work wasnt clomids fault, we conceived on the 2nd cycle.. but sadly it ended in m/c.. i waited 10 weeks to get af after the m/c.. had a bt and it showed that my progesterone was too low so af was definitely not coming (was VERY frustrating seeing as tho i wanted to start ttc straight away!) had to take provera to bring af on.. it really messed me around tho.. my gyno said i might only bleed for a couple days.. which i did.. so assumed it was af, waited til day 5 and started on the clomid, i did a big drive to get to dh for O time.. he was working 500ks away at the time.. and guess what! My real af decided to show up when i shld have been O'ing! Bugger! So that was another wasted cycle on clomid! The 4th cycle was unsuccessful but luckily the 5th cycle worked!! Which was great cos i was a bit hesitant in taking it for more then 5 cycles.
So really i believe it was only unsuccessful once, i conceived twice and 2 of the cycles were a waste of time!

I never got any of the symptoms thank goodness.. i had one emotional month but im not sure if it was clomid related or not. Around O time i got very tender and alot of pain around my lower pelvic area.. but i just imagined that it was from my ovaries getting that big juicy egg ready! Bding in certain positions was very painful too.. I cldnt let dh do any deep penetration positions. I havent actually heard of anyone else having this problem tho.

Anyway sorry for the long ramble.. i hope something in this long essay helps u or someone else!

Sorry one last thing! Have u had a bt to see what ur progesterone levels are doing?? Maybe ask to get one if u havent.. it cld show that af is on its way so u wldnt have to take provera.

Wishing u the best of luck!!! x
