Sorry chick, no knowledge here! I just don't like seeing empty threads, I hate it when it happens to me![]()
Hi I have Graves Disease. I was told by my endocrinologist and my gynae that as long as I am monitored it should be fine. Does she take PTU (Propylthiouracil)? My endo has been weaning me off it because with some cases of Graves it gets better with a year or so's treatment of PTU. PTU is safe to take while pregnant and is advisable as having an overactive thyroid is harmful to a growing fetus and can cause miscarriage. I am now on 50g a day. I personally want to continue on this dose while TTCing just so if I do get pregnant no harm will come to the baby if my thyroid plays up again (which it did the last time I went completely off the drug....long story but I went off it suddenly rather than gradually and it caused a flare up again)

I have Graves Disease, I have managed to fall pg twice, so it can happen. Your SIL needs a very good endo, who is actively involved in clinics for women in pregnancy or ttc. There is medication that is safe to take during PG, and with the correct dosage, she can get her levels back to normal before TTC, it only takes a few weeks.
My ENDO has told me more than once that my Graves isnt an issue in ttc and if I manage to fall PG, my FS says she is not quite sure, so all SIL can do is take her meds, get regular BT's and hope everything falls into place.
I have some good endo's to recomend if your in Melb, I have suffered for 10 years, so I have seen a few..

Thanks you SG, i know the feeling !lol
Popyfairy, i see you are in London, so is my SIL! I don't get to speak to them often but know that she has wanted a baby for a while but couldn't as she was receiving treatment for her Graves! She is now 34 and so just made it for the cut off to receive NHS fertility test and stuff. Maybe it is because of all my IVF history, i research everything and become engulfed in it all at times (which im sure is not always a good thing!) But she doesn't really ask question. I just want to help by giving her some info. All she has told me was that they went for some test and am waiting several weeks for the results - i could bare that i would be going back far sooner but i guess it's what fits with their lives! I don't know if she is on any meds but i do know that her VitB and Foliate were very low even though she was taking supplements. thanks for the advice and if you could recommend a clinic or FS that would be great. I think they are seeing someone at Rohampton.
WLAB - Im very sorry that you have suffered for so long! But you are right my SIL should be seeing someone who has some idea in this area. Thanks you for offering your recommendations but as already mentioned my SIL is in London.
GL with your upcoming pg BT on the 12th
Thanks
Lou
