Has anyone('s DH) had a vasectomy reversal??

DH and I are considering a vasectomy reversal (well, it's him obviously that will be having the procedure but...).

We are taking this approach as opposed to another round of ICSI IVF. We had DS2 through ICSI IVF but our second attempt with a FET (frozen from DS2's round) in April failed. It might seem a bit strange but I kind of prefer the idea of putting the ball (so to speak) back in nature's court and seeing whether or not we fall pregnant (more or less) naturally.

I think I'll be able to cope better if we don't get a positive result. Does that make sense? I just can't believe how incredibly fragile I've felt since we got a BFN. It has consumed my thoughts - both awake and in my dreams. I keep thinking that I could have done something differently and that I had taken my drugs incorrectly or didn't rest long enough.

    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

sorry you're feeling this way. Bfn's can really knock your emotions around. Im sure there is nothing you could have done differently! Xx
My dh had a reversal and we went on to conceive our twins.
Only downside really (apart from the cost) was hubby found the reversal much more painful than the surgery and took longer to recover.
    Hope that helps.

Thanks Bellany. Twins! Congratulations. I'm glad that it worked out for you both.

I've been reading about the reversal and it does seem to take a little longer for the recovery. Hopefully DH won't read that until after the event!

my DH had one but it was unsuccessful. the longer they have had the vasectomy the less likey it will work.

I don't know anything about vasectomies, but, given your age, it might be worth getting your AMH/FSH tested first. If it is at a stage that only IVF will help (due to age based diminished ovarian reserve) then it might not be worth the pain and expense of going through a vasectomy iykwim.

My bil had a reversal (around 3yrs after vasectomy I think) and they conceived the following month, and twice since then! He's a similar age to your dh but sil is 35 and this was 4 1/2yrs ago. I hope whatever you decide you are happy with the results life sure can be emotional and throw us curve balls sometimes tho.

Thanks ladies. I think that it's mainly my age that I'd prefer to go this way. I'll leave it up to nature and she can decide for me. Obviously this isn't what most people would want to do, but, well, in my head at least it seems like something I'd prefer to do and something that I can cope with emotionally.

My DP had the reversal done but it was a long time after he had the snip and it didn't work even though the surgeon was really happy with how the procedure went. He said that if it's been more than 3 years after the snip, the reversals are less successful. GL hun xoxox

Bellany, DH had the procedure done last Thursday. He's still in a fair amount of pain. How long did your DH take to recover?
