    Help with endo please

    Hi everyone

I am new to this forum and hoping you will help me with some information on endo. I posted this in the PCOS/ Endo section over a a week ago, but one of the members suggested I post it here as I may get a quicker response.

I am having a laparoscopy in approx 8 weeks to investigate possible endometriosis. DH and I have been TTC for a while now including a few IVF cycles and my doctor now suspects (better late than never I guess....). I may have endo! I have done heaps of research on the net regarding endo, but what I really need now is to hear from 'real' endo suffers.

I am looking for some specifics on the symptoms and pain you experience with endo. I know the lap will reveal all but 8 weeks is such a long time to wait and this is now the only thing I am thinking about!!!! I'm not looking for a diagnosis, just more info on the symptoms and pain people with endo experience. Everything I have read seems fairly general in terms of symptoms (i.e. pelvic pain, pain during after sex, swollen abdomen, thigh pain....etc), and I seem to be able to tick the list on quite a few symptoms, such as the ones just mentioned. My pain worsens in the lead up to my period, but can also occur during ovulation time and any other time. But my periods are tolerable generally, with the exception of day 1. I actually suffer more in the week before day 1, but know this something more than just PMS.

I understand that different individuals are affected in different ways, depending on where the endo is located, how bad it is and general body makeup of the individual. But, as I said above, its one thing to read all this generic stuff on the net, but another to hear the symptoms and pain described straight from the horses mouth. I also understand some people have no symptoms and pain with endo.

I have actually been experiencing pain for approx 3 years now, but it has become significantly worse in the last 12-18 months, sometimes unbearable to the point of tears, and each time I have raised it with Dr, its been brushed off.....until now. The weirdest symptom for me is that I experience an unbearable dull dragging stabbing kind of pain after I go to the toilet (either to pass water or use bowels). The pain is in the lower right side f my abdomen and it radiates to my back lumber and sometime my right upper thigh. The pain is so intense and lasts anywhere from 5min to 1 hour. I get this symptom along with the others (i.e. not all the time, but often in week leading up to period and other times symptoms flare up. It doesn’t necessarily flare up overtime I go to the toilet during this time and sometimes starts well before I need to go to the toilet or during. Sorry is this is TMI. I haven’t read anywhere about people with endo experiencing this sort of pain.

Does anyone else have similar pain? What are your symptoms? No details are considered TMI, but please feel free to PM if you prefer (not sure if I have to click something to activate PMing?)

YEP to all your symptoms! I had surgery in 2004 and again last December...made a huge difference...and I've been pregnant several times..now we're just working on keeping them there! Hope the surgery comes round quick for you...I jumped straight into IVF/ICSI after mine...best of luck!
