Title pretty much says it all! I suspect I have hostile CM. Terrible trouble getting pg naturally, one natural conception which ended in mc then 15 months of infertility. Very easy for me to get pg with IUI - first baby pg on third try, second baby pg on first try.
My FS thinks this may be the cause of our problems, and is suggesting IUI again. Only problem is that I would really, really like a girl and IUI produces more boys. I will do IUI if needs be, but am embarking on a girl swaying diet and need a couple of cycles to get that in place, so in the meantime I would like to try naturally and try to do something about my CM.
I'm looking for ways to help counteract any possible hostile CM I may have. I have heard of the Robitussin thing, and EPO. Would really like to hear if anyone else has experience with hostile CM, and what you have done to overcome it. Used Pre-Seed during my period of infertility and it didn't help.
What causes hostile CM? I'd be looking into that to address the problem. It could mean some dietary adjustments and being careful about how you wash down there- not too much soap. EPO is fantastic, and as an added plus it is great for hair and skin too. I don't have hostile CM but took it while TCC my three pregnancies and noticed a definite increase in egg white cervical mucous- the really good stuff. You take it orally from day 1 of your MP up to ovulation.
Thanks Ladylove. I am definitely going to start taking the EPO, can't hurt.
I don't really know what might cause hostile CM, and maybe that's not really what I have. I do get EWCM, so maybe it has anti-sperm antibodies in it or something that are killing or blocking the sperm. My FS said they used to do a post-coital CM test, but that the results weren't useful, so now they just do IUI. It's just weird that we have had a lot of trouble conceiving naturally, but not really any trouble at all with ovulation induction and IUI. Am thinking of trying the ov induction drugs and then timed intercourse. Don't know, it's all so confusing.
Thanks for your reply
Hmm, maybe someone here will correct me but I don't think you can have hostile cm and ewcm at the same time, as ewcm cannot be hostile... It's too sperm friendly! That's why it's ewcm and not another kind of cm.
Hi Ladylove, I think you are probably right. I think I am using the wrong term. I googled some more, and it seems like hostile cm is when it never goes eggwhite. I think maybe there is something else wrong with it, that is making it unfriendly to sperm. Maybe anti-sperm antibodies in it. I really don't know anything much about it, and my FS just said to bypass it by doing IUI, as that's worked for us before. I've started on the EPO, so will see if that helps.
You won't have anti-sperm anything if you are getting ewcm. It forms as the perfect vehicle for sperm to live in and move through during their quest for conception. That said ewcm is not the only thing needed for conception, a lot of things need to be in balance. Has your DH/DF had his sperm tested? I imagine with what you have experienced already that you would have had pelvic scans etc. It took almost two years for DH and I to conceive our first, I had ewcm most months and nothing was wrong with either of us, i had borderline pco but no symptoms of it other than marginally irregular periods and no pregnancy! But it is so frustrating. Def. use epo and do check out preseed.
Yeah, my DH has just had his sperm tested, and it is all fine. So I think the issue lies with me. I've been through the whole laperoscopy/hysteroscopy thing, tubes checked out. Two successful IUI pregnancies. Am thinking of giving the ov induction drugs a go, with timed intercourse to see if it's more that my system needs a bit of fine tuning. Time will tell I suppose...
The successful iui should give you hope then, at least a little tiny bit. :hugs: you should join a TCC group in the conception section here. Lots of support and understanding.
