IVF people, do you see your doctor?

Ladies (and gentlemen) going through IVF do you see your doctor?

I mean like much? I've only seen mine in the intitial consultation and at the ET, the rest of the time I deal with the co-ordinators/nurses.

Is this normal? I'm not complaining just wondering whether it's like this everywhere?

dont even see mine at EPU or TF. only see him in his rooms when he signs the papers for a cycle- if it were up o him i would only need to see him before starting a new stim.

If im doing a FET i just call my nurse when i want to start!

However when i was with MIVF my FS did EVERYTHING, scans, EPU, TF and lots of consults inbetween. only thing she didnt do was my BT!!!lol

Hi,

I am now with QFG and i only saw my FS on initial consult and at transfer - he gives the instructions to the nurse to give to me - but i live 3.5hours away from him so most is done by phone or email. When i was with Sydney IVF in Coffs harbour i only saw FS again on intial consult and EPU & Transfer and nurse did everything else - i think its pretty normal procedure.

We had two appointments before the cycle started, then he did my egg collection & transfer. We had phone access to him whenever we wanted & also could see him when we wanted (though we didn't need to). I was mostly looked after by three nurses.

Yep, pretty normal.
I see my FS before every new cycle to review my last cycle and look at my new protocol.
I've also been lucky neough to have her do the EPU and transfer for me but normally it's whoever is on duty.

I usually only see my FS to start a cycle, if I want to see him between cycles I can book an appointment, but it's not normal. The nurses do my scans and blood tests for cycles, if my EPU falls on the right day my FS will do it. He tends to try to do EPUs for his longer term patients regardless of which day they fall on, but he's having a few transport difficulties at the moment so that may not happen. He always does transfers for me, the only time I may have to see a different doctor is for EPU. I find that in the middle of a cycle the nurses are often better - more willing to offer a shoulder to cry on, more sympathetic... and they are good at hassling the FS on my behalf if things aren't going quite to plan.

Prior to starting IVF, we saw our FS a couple of times, but since starting IVS I see our FS for scans, OPU and FET, and deal with the nurses for everything else - blood tests, injecting instructions, and also ring them for cycle instructions. I can ring my FS at pretty much any time on her mobile if I have questions or problems that I dont go to the nurses about. I could also make an appointment to see her if I needed to.

Yes, FS is Fertility Specialist. There's lots of abbreviations that get used here on BB, so if it's helpful for you (I'm sure it will be!!), here is a list of all the common abbreviations used.
