Long Term TTC & Assisted Conception April 2013

Luteal support is designed to help maintain appropriate levels of progesterone during the 2ww. It can be in the form of either progesterone supplementation or hcg booster shots (which encourages your body to produce it's own progesterone). If you have done FSH injects (eg puregon or gonal-f), it's recommended to have luteal support because they can shorten your LP (making it less likely that the cycle will work because your lining can start to break down before the embryo has a chance to implant). If you use clomid, it tends to boost progesterone levels itself, so there's generally no need. I'm not sure about femara. For natural cycles there's also generally no need, assuming your body consistently produces a "normal" length LP (ie 12-14 days). If you have a short LP during natural cycles, then luteal support can help extend that.

Completely new to this thread and got pointed to here by a member named Faye after she saw a post of my issues on another thread. Which went something along the lines of :

So im completely new to this type of thing and im not very sure as to what to say but ill take a stab in the dark.... (just to put everyone on the same page, i also suffer from depression/anxiety so this is a big thing for me to do)

My partner and i have been together for 6 years and with no luck in the baby department as yet, This time last year i got diagnosed with PCOS and it really shocked and scared me for a while there, you know thinking that i would never have a family of my own..... i mean i have the works... overweight, irregular periods, unwanted hair you name it, i have it.

So since then i have tried exercising my heart out/eating right plus i know this is going to sound crazy to most but i even set up a room in the house with baby items in it with my exercise equipment to keep me motivated, Which works well.
But what really gets to me is that ( i know this is going to sound sad or even hateful but its only true) family members and friends so happy with their newborns and children and i wonder why im not worthy, what have a done which makes me such a bad person that i shouldn't be blessed with having children. The toughest thing is that i have to congrats them and be happy for them in which i truly am but i just find it so hard to put on a smile and pretend everything is just fine. plus when i try to explain what im going through, they always say "you know, your only young, you have heaps of time for a family."
Its so crippling that i cant even hold my newborn niece because of it... silly i know.

Anyways i guess im hear to spill it all out because well my sister in law said it may help to find people out there which are battling the same battle.

Anyways since posting this, i have received a lot of reply from a lot of lovely people in which im very grateful for.

If anyone else has any other stories or issues they would like to share, im all ears.

So I had my laparoscopy yesterday, feeling very sore today! While this was just exploratory for my peace of mind, had no symptoms or anything so I am in a lot of shock today as doc found severe endometriosis that had spread to my bladder and bowel. He also found a cyst on my right ovary and one of my Fallopian tubes was quite swollen. He said he got a lot of it but I may need more surgery, and he said we definitely need to talk about "what now". I just can't believe it, I really wonder if we did this surgery first if we may not have had to do three cycles of ivf?? Very very shocked! :dunno:

Wow Kel. aren't you glad you got the lap done!! I guess in hindsight you may have been better getting a lap done sooner but how would you of known to without any symptoms. Rest up and FX you'll get your BFP very soon now that the endo etc has been removed...

Hi everyone.
We had our appointment with the FS today, to see what we needed to do in terms of getting ready for #2, as I want to start as soon as Spock is 1 year old (in a month). I'm keen to start ttc asap, because I know if I don't try as soon as I can I will regret it. I want to have as many kids as possible and that means as close as possible, because in a few years they might not be an option. I am also bf Spock and needed to talk to the dr about that and cycling.
It went well. I found out a few things when he did the internal too, like apparently I have a had a tear on my cervix, obviously from Spock's birth but I wasn't aware of it at all (and I don't think anyone else was), and it explains why I had a massive 2L PPH giving birth to her. He also said that the external OS of my cervix is more open that it should be, (internal was fine), but he mentioned that when I do get pg again, it would be worth seeing an ob to r/v it to ensure it will hold and not need a stitch. was good to have some answers there.
We worked out a plan. Simply put, if I am ovulating naturally, we can do a thaw cycle with me continuing to bf and not needing to go on hormonal support. If I'm not ovulating, means I will need hormone support to make me ovulate (like clomid) and might need to consider weaning. if that is the case we are going to wait a bit longer cause I am not ready to wean her yet. but i'm sure I am ovulating naturally anyway.
So this cycle is a trial cycle and I am day 1 if you want to add me to the list =)

hello to everyone else in here! later on tonight when I have more time I will go through and catch up on where everyone is, but I just wanted to get all that down before I forgot =)

Kel, trust me when I say you're not the only one to find herself in this situation. Especially when you had no symptoms (although IF itself is actually a symptom)! Imagine how many other women with no symptoms never get the lap done! I had my lap after 4 IVF, but it only took so long for me because our first FS kept refusing to do it, so we had to change to a new FS to get it done... We did IVF#5 two months after the lap and that gave us DD. Given that you had so much work done, expect to need about 7-10 days to start feeling more like yourself. My first lap I needed 8 days (my FS estimated 3-5 days) after he removed a lot of endo (it covered half my bowel, among other places). Hopefully the damage to your bowel isn't as bad as mine (I was told I'll need a bowel resection one day, and I've heard the recovery for those can be like 6 weeks!). Let us know how you go with your follow-up appt, but in the meantime, rest up and focus on recovery. :hug:

TT40, hi and welcome to you as well. Sounds like a good plan. We started TTC#2 as soon as PPAF arrived and managed a quick (but short-lived) BFP, so FX you'll also get a quick (and healthy) BFP too!

Wow lots going on....... Welcome pandabutt. You'll get lots of support here and I can imagine we've all felt that things are unfair or wondered why we are the ones. It's horrid.

Kel- you might be angry about not doing the lap before. It is frustrating. But thank goodness you've had it done now. I hope you can rest up and recover nicely. You've got some TTCing to do when you've recovered and been given the go ahead. My lap i had a tube removed and some adhesions around the ovaries and other bits. I think I then had three months off (other things popped up) the FET worked. Lovely fresh uterus did the trick I reckon. Take it easy and well done for having it done x

So I am finally ready to be added to the list Juniper when you get a chance. Currently day 5 doing my first antagonist cycle with ICSI and PGD to come. If things had gone to plan I would be about 3weeks from my due date but I'm sure we all know nothing goes to plan in this TTC world we find ourselves in! Just excited to be trying again really but also trying not to get my hopes up too much also. This gonal f is powerful stuff though. Talk about emotional, tears at the drop of a hat. On 250 IU which I think is kinda high. Is it normal to be already feeling quite tender in the belly? Don't have my first scan until Monday when I am also due to start cetromide (?). Also had a few dizzy spells so trying to keep my fluids up. Will have to ask the nurse when I go in for scan if this is all normal.

Kel i can imagine your shock but I hope that things improve now they have gotten rid of most of it. Take it easy through your recovery it takes a bit to be back to normal after a lap especially with so much done.

Juniper I was reading about you needing a bowel resection one day and I can talk from my hubby's experience last year it is a very large op with a lengthy recovery. He went back to work after 6 weeks but was still struggling every day for a while. Make sure you have someone to take care of you when you do get it done, don't want to scare you but we had no idea what was really involved and would have loved to know someone's experience. But in saying that it has been so worth it.

Joespratt I found some cycles I felt sore really quick and others not do much, 250 is not to bad a dose I was on nearly double that on my cycles. Hope this cycle is a success and you get lots of follicles.

I had my iui yesterday so back in the wonderful world of tww! Trying to stay positive and think about my trip to the Cook Islands next week, while sending good vibes down there!

Lilmisspanda I know it's hard and what you are feeling makes you feel worse! I read something that has really helped me when I'm around pregnant friends and family and that is "their fertility has no relation to yours", I just keep thinking that, concentrate on bring happy for them and whenever I can I grab their babies and rub them on my belly for good luck!! My friends love it!

Thanks Kerbear, I am definitely feeling that the last two days have been exhausting, even just getting up to go to the toilet really takes it out of me. I can't believe I was so naive that I would be back to normal so quickly, I don't think so!

Kel everyone is different but I found my cycles threw me for a six everytime, I think it all depends on how your body copes with the medication. I hope you start to feel a bit better soon xo

Joe, I was on 250iu this cycle too (but puregon instead of gonal-f). If you're tender, it might mean you're responding well. FX for your first monitoring and GL with the cetrotide. With regard to fluids, I was always told to drink 3 litres of water per day from when I started stims (ie the gonal-f) until the end of the cycle. Increasing your protein intake is also a good idea.

kerbear, thanks for sharing your husband's experience. I've heard it's a horrible recovery, so dreading the day my Dr says it's necessary. I'm sure I'll spend the entire 6 weeks cursing all the Drs who ignored my complaints about my AF pain for the 10 years I suspected endo before I was diagnosed. Maybe if we'd caught it earlier I wouldn't be facing the resection...

Kel, if they hadn't found any endo, you probably would be pretty much back to normal now. Don't push yourself; give your body a chance to recover. :hug:

Juniper it definately sucks when people don't listen, i have learnt to push for things when I know my body is not right and most times things have been found and fixed.
It is dedicatedly a surgery I would put off as long as you safely can.

Joe I found cetratide can give a little sting and sometimes a red lump but trust me it goes away pretty quick. I freaked out the first time and rand my clinic but it was fine. I hope your sore belly means great scan results next week :-)

Hi everyone, sorry I have been MIA but I wasn't getting emails that there were any posts! Strange... :)

I'm CD8 at the moment. Started 125iu puregon CD2, and doing another OI cycle. Hopefully we can manage a few less follies this time (I had 8 last time, so we had to cancel). This is our 2nd last OI cycle before IVF in June/July. FX I can conceive a take home bub.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. I'm saddened to see some familiar names in here =( It's unfair for you all that I am in here for round 2 while some of you are still here from when I was here last.

Juniper ~ I got AF straight away! Didn't miss a beat, was so close I wasn't even sure I was still PP bleeding or AF had started. Seems a bit of a waste...but I guess if anyone is going to get it straight away, may as well make it someone who doesn't need to worry about contraception.

JoeSpratt ~ I always thought the more tender/bloated you felt when you were stimming the better (to a limit), but mean it was working. FX this is it for you!! and yes, you can never drink to much water!

Kerbear ~ Hope your should recovers soon, what are you getting done to it?


One thing that really surprised me when I went in for my appointment was the girls at the clinic remembered me. They even knew my name before I told them! Not sure if that is a good thing or a bad thing...

Just banged my head on the table looking to see I'm only 4dp.

Just popping in to say had my scan and my uterus is "absolutely perfect" according to my FS! Lining is 8.9 so all systems go for transfer next Thursday :)

TT40 thanks, I had my bone scraped and some bone spurs removed, luckily my rotor cuff was fine. It's amazing how it knocks you around though and how much it limits movement, I would have hated it to be a more extensive surgery. Slowly moving my arm which is great but still have to have it in a sling which is so annoying.

Williever were you trying to get to close to the stick !!!! I cracked up when I read your post, I hope it works and you get your bfp soon xo
