Hi Bj, we have just had to make the same decision, and we have chosen the fresh stim cycle as its really a shame to pay for a FET for only 1 embie. We'd rather add to it than use only 1.
Hopefully we end up with something to add to it as well as a fresh transfer, its hard with PGD as you can end up with nothing to transfer or freeze. My last cycle was quite a good one to get 1 transfer and 1 frosty.
What i did was give hubby all the info, then he came back with 'his idea' of another stim cycle, too easy, lol.
xx

how do add pics to my posts on here?
murray the pups are doing great. lily is getting the hang og being a mama, though she gets really fretful if a few of them are whimpering from opposite ends of the pen. the are absolutely adorable and even DP spent time yesterday afternoon and last night laying beside pen talking to lily and the puppies

i just added a couple pics to album on here :D

Hey ladies - Thank you all for your lovely supportive comments and, most of all, your understanding. I don't think anyone who hasn't been through IVF really understands what it's like - apart from our partners, I suppose.
Jaki - You're right; we do have 11 snowbubs waiting for us. I'm going to call the clinic today and get the BT brought forward as I am now having serious spotting and just want to get it over and done with and stop the steroids and clexane injections. I've never done a frozen transfer so it will be all new to me. Hopefully it's not as invasive as a stim cycle.
Murraycod - Good to know I'm not the only one who is sensitive at kids parties. I had to buy the present this week, and here I was in Pumpkin Patch looking at little 000 jumpsuits with cute tigers and things on them and I had to stop myself from crying! Aaaagh. GL to you for your first cycle. It's a big learning curve but it's good to have a forum such as this to ask questions and get answers.
Emstar - I'm crossing my fingers for you babe. I think you've got lots of positive signs going for you. Hang in there. Good news that they've brought forward the BT!
BJ - Thanks for your support. Another one of us who sagely makes decisions to avoid children's parties :) Sometimes we just have to protect ourselves, hey?
Trubabe - I haven't looked at your link yet but will do so today. I absolutely love dogs and puppies (with their little puppy breath) and adorable. I am a ****er spaniel fan myself :)
Juniper - It's good that you can fit another cycle in before Xmas and before the changes to the safety net. I've never done an antagonist (short) cycle; always the long down reg which just goes on forever and a day. I just want the BT to confirm what I know already so I can get on with Xmas and start again in 2010. GL to you for this cycle!
Rob - GL for your scan on Monday. I am sure everything will be fine but totally understandable that you have concerns post the positive result. I know I would be the same; but then I am a bit of a worry wort!
-
Goodness me, so much to read!
Emerald Star, I always buy FRER and the Clearblue digis. FX it's option A. :crossfingers:
murraycod, you just reminded me - my calendar was still on November! I think I'm a lost cause... :shakehead:
Rob, try not to worry hun. Just enjoy being pg as much as possible. I hope the u/s goes perfectly! :goodluck:
bj*81, we're doing this fresh cycle because we only have 1 frostie. Last time we had 2 and only 1 survived the thaw. I couldn't handle starting a cycle with only 1 and worrying the whole time about having something to transfer.
Brunette, I've done 3 long down reg cycle previously and am really liking this antagonist one. No nasal spray, but 4 extra injections. The injections are dearer than the synarel though ($300 ($75 /dose) compared to $110). But I seem to have responded better.
Afm, EPU is confirmed for 8am Monday. Lol, yay for having to be in the city by 6.45am!! We saw 5 mature follies (up to 24mm) on the right again today, but he couldn't find the left one this morning. He didn't want to push to find it and kept saying he could do that when I was asleep on Monday... I'm still hoping we'll get more eggs than we've gotten in the past (have previously had 5 or 6), but I guess we'll find out Monday. I'm also hoping all these supplements from the acupuncturist will mean they're much better eggs too!

Hi Ladies
Haven't posted for a while but been looking in from time to time. It's seems to me that we are all starting to feel a bit down with Christmas around the corner. As much as we all say it's ok that it didn't happen we can let out hair down a bit we all know that we would trade this in a second. Anyway as I was reading the posts it struck me that we should be thankful at Christmas for all we have and all that is to come especially since the symbol represents what we pray for each time we all go through the dreaded waiting.
Sorry for no personals I'm actaully quite busy at the moment but I'm thinking of all of you
-
Thanks guys, it seems to be unanimous that a full stim cycle would be the go. And it does make sense....it would be awful to gear yourself up and go through all that for nothing if the emby doesn't survive the thaw...
Does anyone have a clear simple handle on what the changes to medicare are actually going to mean??
-
bj*81, the best way to find out what the Medicare changes will mean to you is to contact your clinic and ask them to send you their fee details for next year. Each clinic is different and other people's changes may be completely different to yours.
If you happen to be with QFG, I picked up those details from the Spring Hill office this week (their estimated out of pocket next year is going up to $3200 - in comparison, this cycle should cost us ~$1000).
-
Juniper - I'm also with QFG. Shivers, I didn't realise the changes were going to mean $2000-plus extra. I have a copy of current fees and I'm hoping it's the same with the new fees, that the out of pocket doesn't include when you have reached the safety net. So it would be $3200 out of pocket for the first stim cycle but then you would have reached the safety net and the next cycle would be less? But I'm in the dark like everyone else ...
-
I never know what anything costs!!!
We just dish out the money and any return is a bonus! Im with SIVF, who are more expensive than any other i know off. Also PGD costs us extra which Im told will be a Bigger loss with the changes.
-
Thanks Juniper, I'll give them a call monday and check it out. I'm with City Fertility on the coast......hopefully it's not too much of a hike. It gets me so mad if I think about it too much!! Do they think that we ask for this? Aarrrgggghhh, don't get me started!
Jaki - Sorry if I'm asking a dumb question but whats PGD??

Help
Ladies, I really need your help. I have just found out that I have enterococcus. I had a full blood count the day after my transfer - not at all related to my cycle but for my endocrinologist. Anyway, my white blood cell count came back higher than the normal range parameters. My endo said it could be because I was on steroids or because of an infection - probably a urinary tract infection. I did a urine test and it was negative. But she called me tonight and told me they continued to grow it in culture and it has come back with this enterococcus. Now, I did some research on the net and it appears it is a normal flora/fauna thing. But it can either be in the fluid surrounding your follicles, or it can be introduced via a catheter at time of EPU or transfer. It could cause problems for implantation/viability of embryos. I have never heard of this before. Has anyone else come across it? I am so, so angry because if I picked up some bacteria from the hospital which has caused the non-viability of my embryos I will just go right off. Please help !
-
Brunette, the sheet I picked up says $2700 out of pocket for the subsequent cycle(s) in a calendar year. In both cases I've rounded up to the nearest $100 and I'm quoting the "with top insurance" numbers.
ETA - I just noticed your latest post. I don't know anything about that, but if there's a risk you picked it up from the day theatres I'd really like to know what you find out about it (since I'm going to the same day theatres!). Did you have any other symptoms or was it just the white blood cell count?
-
Juniper - So it's almost three times more expensive next year? Far out! I have to do another urine test tomorrow. I will need to call my endo to get her to fax a test script form through, and I am going to grill her about whether it is likely caused from hospital procedures. I know we're both QFG Brisbane patients, but I don't go to the day surgery in the city. Is this where you go? If I picked it up at the hospital, I am transferring. I was thinking about transferring anyway, and this will be the deciding factor for me. I had no symptoms whatsoever, so thought it couldn't possible be a UTI.

Hi Brunette
I've never heard of enterococcus... I would be wild too if it is the clinic where you got it. GL with your investigations...rip into them! It's not like we don't have enough problems...
-
Hi ladies
Ive fallen behind again sorry - also im very down at the moment because looks like another BFN - Natural cycle and also looking like we are not going to be able to afford IVF in Feb
Nix ~ In answer to your question, we havent sold the tractor yet and we did think we might have been able to save up the money but for the IVF as well as keep paying the tractor loan but looks like time is just going by too quick and we cant seem to save enough.
Emstar ~ will have everything crossed for you hun, hope you get your miracle!
Ladies that have come back from TWW with neg's I feel for you and hope you can get back on the horse soon.
Brunette ~ Hoping the docs can work out what is going on with your cell counts etc.
Trubabe ~ congrats on the arrival of your pups - too cute! Hope you get some rest.
GL all, I might stay away from BB for a bit. Not sure yet
:pink-babydust::stickyvibesboy: to you all xoxo
Thanks for your support etc

Brunette, I do go to the day theatres in the city. I hope you can get some good answers. :goodluck:
trubabe, GL on Monday! :goodluck:
Afm, would you believe I've become so absent-minded that I almost forgot my trigger shot! I didn't hear my alarm go off (mobile was charging in the next room) and the only reason I remembered was because I was talking to my MIL about the injections - I was about to say "I have to do the last one at 6.30 tonight" when I glanced at the time and noticed it was 6.40pm!! :o  So I ended up doing it 15 mins late. Hopefully that doesn't cause a problem on Monday...
