Hi Seph - good for you for telling your FS that you wanted more tests. It's all well for them to say that they don't normally do this after 'only four transfers'!! Thats a heck of a lot emotionally, physically and financially for anyone to go through. I told my FS straight out that i simply could not afford (financially) to have multiple failed transfers, and then have a test done that could have saved me time and money! My results were all clear, and now i have peace of mind, and i'm only out of pocket $150 or so. Best of luck to you! :goodluck:

Loops12 and Mitf still NO AF! ( 2 days overdue). This has never happened AF is always on time. Did preganncy test just in case but BFN. Grrrrr this is so irritating!!!!!
When are you girls scheduled for egg retrieval? Are you doing 3 day or 5 day transfers?

Hi Lovely Ladies,
So its 3 days since I had egg retreival...Im stil exhausted! I have the flu as well so that probably dosnet help, my stomach muscles are stil sore.
Anyways so they got 12 eggs, and the following day they called to say 9 had fertilised. Today Sunday, (3 days after)the news is the following"
1 x 10 cell, 5 x 8 cell, 1 x 8 cell (fragmented), and 2 x 4 cell.
Is that good, bad, ok, or what?
I go back to Sydney IVF for embryo transfer on Tuesday, does it hurt? Can I go back to work?
Hope everything is moving forward nicely for everyone here, and babydust to everyone.

ETA: I should just clarify here, that although the ET shouldn't be that bad, I know some people find them terrible. I've had four of them, and on two occasions I had to ask FS to change the size of the speculum (sp?) because the discomfort was not bearable. He now uses a medium-sized one, which is lots better. But it should only be discomfort, and the discomfort disappears after the procedure - you shouldn't have any pain afterwards.

If you want to know more about your embies, maybe do a search on google and see if you can get more info. Otherwise call FS tomorrow and get more info......but as i said it all sounds very promising to me. How many embies are you putting back?
I too am your age and my FS recommended doing 2 at a time, as long as i get two beauties though....i don't know much about the procedure but i do believe it should only cause some discomfort. I will be embarking on my journey sometime this month with my first IVF ICSI.

Emerald Star - Hi & welcome back! I was wondering where you have been hiding. Has AF arrived? Is she normally regular? I hope she is staying away for the right reason... if not hopefully she will join you soon. My ET is estimated around the 29-31 July and I don't know what day transfer I am doing, I will have to ask.
Loops - no its not the nicest stuff is it, that icky feeling tends to pass pretty quickly though. I was disappointed this morning when the schedule ruined my usual Sunday morning sleep in!
Kay Kay - I am not an expert on these things but it sounds good to me. Personally I don't think I would like to go back to work after an ET and think I will take a personal day. I guess it depends how flexible your work is.
Seph - that is great that you can do another ET straight away. Is that normal? My FS told me I would have to take a month off. Here's hoping we get out BFP this time and we won't have to worry about it though. GL - I hope this one is the one that decides to stick around.

Mitf, I think the usual protocol is that you can do FETs every month but should take a month off if you've just finished a stim cycle. I suppose it depends on the FS, the Clinic and the individual.

I will call FS tomorrow to pick up meds and start the rollercoaster ride.....I am soooooooooo excited. I am also trying not to get my hopes up high. Have you read about any 1st ivf successes? I just have a good feeling about this or maybe its just me getting toooooooooo over excited.
When do you go for your u/s to find out how you are doing with your eggs?

Emerald Star - Fantastic news about AF..... I am getting excited, although trying not to think about it too much. I haven't done much readying on success rates but I do have a friend that got pregant on her first go of IVF. It would be nice wouldn't it. I guess we will just have to wait and see :crossfingers:. Due to the cycle I am on (down reg) - ultrasounds are still a long way off. AF will come again about 12 July and I will start injections some time after that.
Seph - thanks - that makes sense. This will be a full stim so understandable.
Mitf - Pardon my ignorance, :redface: but i am not sure how the down reg works...sorry, i just though that you would be injecting soon...but it sounds like you have to wait for AF again...this is all tooo confusing. Please explain...sorry!

Emerald Star - no worries. Down regulation in effect goes for a cycle and a half. We begin by using a nasal spray, synarel, at the end of this cycle to surpress the amount of estrogen produced by the ovaries. It allows us to move forward with a more contolled stimulation in the following cylce. If you want more detials its probably easier to google down regulation - you will probably find a brief explanation on one of the IVF clinic websites. I will google yous too and have a look at the difference.
Kay Kay, good luck on Tuesday. :goodluck: I've done 4 transfers and only the most recent of those has actually hurt. The others were just a bit uncomfortable (just due to the speculum). The last one the cervix wasn't in the right position or something? He had to use this other instrument to hold the cervix and that hurt like heck, but only for a few minutes. Unless your Dr says otherwise, you should be fine going back to work if you want to. I always take the day off (and the next day) because I tend to get stressed at work and I'd rather just go home and relax.
Emerald Star, glad to hear you can get started. I was in a buddy group of IVF first-timers on another site last year when I did my first cycle. About 2/3 of the group got a BFP first time, so it does happen. FX you are one of the lucky ones. :crossfingers:

I am currently undergoing ICSI, it's our first time and am now on the TWW, we recently found out we have no good embies to freeze, and so if this lil one doesn't stick it's back to the drawing board.

I know I shouldn't have, but I did a HPT this morning - its been since Friday morning since my last dose of pregnyl 1000.

I cant get too upset, cause I know that I shouldnt have done it and I cant run off crying at work every 2 seconds, but this SUCKS! its only my 1st round, but I dunno how you all do it over and over again. The pressure to "perform" is massive, everyone around me knows about the IVF is counting on it working.
Has anyone heard of HPT's being wrong? I still did my dose of pregnyl afterwards, but I felt a bit strange doing it - almost like there is no point.
My hat is off to you all who continue on every month with persistance and patience - this is really hard.
Krikkit - when is your BT scheduled? I wouldn't give up hope till you have a confirmed BFN BT or AF arrives. My sister's AF was late on a natural cycle and she got a HPT BFN, then a couple of days later getting a HPT BFP. GL and FX that your body just isn't sending the right signals yet. Also, I know what you mean about the pressure. We decided not to tell most people we are doing IVF. When friends ask how we are going we just say we are saving for and thinking about moving to IVF in a few months so they stop asking.

My BT is scheduled for Monday the 13th.
It could still be early days, I am tired (exhausted actually) But I am just putting it down to the trauma of the EPU and x2 aneasthetic.
Our friends and family know and they know what part of the cylce we are upto, I think next cycle (if we need it) I may keep it to myself and pretend we are having a break for a month or waiting for the DR to "figure out what to do next" - that or gaffer tape my mouth shut!

DH and I kept some things secret during our first IVF stim cycle, but still about a dozen people knew where we were at, and it is a lot of pressure. Don't be too hard on yourself, I know I have trouble keeping a secret, especially when IVF can be so consuming.
I have found that each time we've gone in for another FET, we've told less and less people. My mother can be particularly tiresome with all her questions and advice, so now I only tell her when we have 'news' to share - so far it's been to let her know that the FET didn't succeed, but she has no idea when the next one is, and won't be told until after the TWW. She was excrutiating during the stim cycle, and cared more about me getting pregnant (read: giving her grandchildren) than the fact that I had OHSS.
Don't get too down yet - even if this cycle doesn't succeed (touchwood, you're too early to know!), you will cope with it, because you've come this far and everyone in this thread is strong and resilient. And we'll be here to give you a big :grouphug: whenever you need it.
Now, stop poas and wait another week before getting worried!

Here I was thinking my mum was the only one driving me up the wall.
She continually refers to the non existant baby as her baby and is buying me more baby clothes that I have hangers.
I know it could be too early, my hubby called our clinic (with out me knowing!) - he was worried too and told them I POAS and it was negative, they said its too early and not to worry - I have to wait one more week.
I think next time around I will be keeping it all to myself and hubby and not sharing where we are upto on our journey.

There should be a permanent thread on BB to talk about our mothers. My mother booked an overseas holiday with a return date in October 09 because she wanted to be back in Australia 'when' the baby was born - this was all on the proviso that I got pregnant on our first cycle back in January, which I didn't. :wall:
Krikkit - it is definatelty too early. Your body has barely had a chance to register if it is pregnant. My fingers are still crossed for you and sending you lots of :bluedust::pink-babydust: Sorry to hear you are exhausted. Try to stop thinking about it for a few days. Get DH to give you a nice massage and get a couple goods night sleep - (although I know how hard this can be with that TWW clock ticking at the back of your brain).
Krikkit / Seph - fortunately my mother isn't too bad and hasn't bought me any baby clothes /schedule her holiday around me. It is my siblings that I have to worry about! I was still coming to terms with my first IUI BFN and my brother was on my case making stupid comments and kept offering me wines, coffees etc at a family function. I deliberately had a camomile tea to keep him guessing!

I always tell my Mum that my BT is a few days later than it is so I'm not fielding any questions on that day but my lying is more so that I have time to personally drive to my Mum and Dad's place to give them the good news when it happens.. I had to ring my Mum today and tell her that AF arrived this morning and she was so sad for me that it broke my heart to have to tell her... Everyone at my work knows what i'm up to and when I broke down in tears this morning they respect the fact that I left work and why.. i just couldn't hide this.. I'm superbad at it.. I have been following this thread for quite a while. Everyone in here is so very supportive and I personally have found the experiences others have described have really helped in my journey so far.
So maybe I should introduce myself (and thank you for sharing your stories) . I am currently in my first cycle after having tried 5 mths clomid earlier this year (after 2years+ TTC naturally. I have mild PCOS, a long 30-50day natural cycle and one tube is blocked.
Today was day 10 of my stims and I have been OK, but have become very nauseaus in the last couple of days. I am due for my 2nd ultrasound tomorrow and am getting very nervous. My EPU if all goes well should be on Thurs/Fri. I had a scan last week as my 1st blood test indicated that my E2 levels were 4,000, although I had about 9 decent follies. I am very worried that EPU will be cancelled.
Has anyone else had experience with high estrogen levels, but without extreme number of follies and still gone through with EPU?

I'm pretty new to the site too and really finding it encouraging, particularily the positive attitude of those of you who've been at this for so long. It's great to hear all the stories. In response to the last post I am also on my first IVF cycle. I am doing the down regulation cycle (I didn't find out until today that there are two different types; sounds like you're on the flare version, it's not so long and no difference in success rates according to what I've read). I've been on the syneral for 7 days now and my FS does not want me back in the clinic until Thursday week before I start FSH. It's a very long cycle they've planned out :wall: but I feel more proactive than when i was on the clomid so fingers crossed. Wishing you and everyone else luck too.

We always keep all our fertility treatment issues to ourselves. This is easy for us because the rest of our family lives abroad. But sometimes it is hard especially when things go wrong ,you feel it would be better if you had a shoulder to cry.
Emerald Star- My friend is 6 months pregnant after having her first IVF.

AFM - still on pill and Synarel - down reg. Have an appointment tomorrow with nurse to go over the next steps etc and get more meds (injections etc). My EPU i think is on the 27th and then 4or 5 day transfer after that I believe. Find out more tomorrow I suppose

Well I think you are all amazing...so supportive and caring of each other..its like the friends you want to have that completely understand everything that we are all going thru!
Anyways, I had 1 blastcyst transferred back to me today, as you all said...it didnt hurt! I actually said to the doctor "Is that it"...so much easier tha egg retrival...
Sydney IVF were fantastic, the nurses, and scientist, and doctor all super caring and very helpful. My Dr (who did the egg retrieval days ago) who is not my FS as just lovely...I would also rec her as well.
I had accupunture early this morning, before embryo transfer. My natropath (at Chatswood) came in on his day off as he said all the hard work we have done will not be complete without a "before and after" session of accupunture! So Ive had 2 lots of accupunture today...which I must admit certainly calmed me after hardly any sleep last night!
I told a "work friend" last night about today and you know what she said?
Dont get your hopes up I dont think IVF is very successful the 1st time!!!!! I couldnt belive it...as if anyone going through it dosnt become obsessed trying to read, gather information, chat online with Belly Belly friends, and of course talk to the Drs, Nurses and experts on IVF!!
Thanks for letting me vent, Congrats to everyone where ever you are in your attempts to have a child....theres no doubt about it...we are the stonger sex!!

And as for your work friend, I had two people tell me, after the first ET wasn't successful, that they weren't surprised because it would be 'too lucky' if the first was was successful. What a stupid thing to say! The chances don't increase the more you do it!

AFM: I am really stressed right now. Had a 2nd scan & BT today. I have 21 Follies and my Estrogen has soared from 4000 on Thurs to 15000 today. The FS said I am borderline on cancellation, but will go ahead with EPU on Thurs. Trigger is tonight. I doubt there will be a ET this month, but at the moment I am considering pulling the plug this afternoon as he asked me what the chances are that I could take a week off work in case I need to go to hospital for a week. I don't know what to do!!! I know my body is sensitive to my hormone levels in general and am very scared as to what will happen. Sorry for the me post but I feel I am at an important crossroad/dilemma and am wondering if anyone else here has been at this point with similar levels.

I had over 20 follies and FS said he was thinking of cancelling because I was at risk of OHSS. He brought EPU forward and we triggered that night, and they were able to get 18 eggs at EPU. I then had a mild OHSS, and took a couple of days off work to rest. It was nothing too big, but I was pretty exhausted. Make sure you keep up your fluids. Also, I did have a fresh ET, but looking back I think I could/should have waited, to give my body a break.
Don't feel too despondent - EPU may go really smoothly, but make sure you give yourself time to recover. FX for you that it'll be fine - and rest up!
GL on Thursday. It'll be over before you know it.

Did you have any signs before EPU, eg nausea, bloating, stomach cramps? Do you remember what your Estrogen levels were?

Hi Tantee. We had a similar situation but went ahead with EPU - we got 24 eggs and had to cancel the fresh transfer and go with a frozen. We ended up with 5 in the freezer and then got a month off.....I was actually really thankful for the break....it's been lovely and DH probably agrees. NO tanties or anything!!
AFM: AF has arrived today!!!!! on day 23!! i can't believe it's here so early.....my poor hormones don't know what they are doing! I normally have a 33 day cycle so my frozen transfer should be in about 3 weeks. DH and I are getting pretty excited now. Hope our 5 frozen blasties are feeling ok!! BT tomorrow will confirm that AF has arrived

They never checked my bloods at that time, it was all based on the scan, and on what I told FS. He said that there are three versions of how someone might feel around EPU time:
1. That they have heaps of follies and are at risk of OHSS, but feel fine and don't report any negative symptoms;
2. That they have heaps of follies, are at risk of OHSS, and feel terrible; and
3. They don't have heaps of follies and may feel terrible, or fine.
FS told me that it's Number 2 that causes him concern, and that he wanted to bring my EPU forward because I reported that I was pretty uncomfortable and exhausted. If he had found lots of follies but I hadn't reported any bad symptoms, he wouldn't have been concerned. I remember that even the vaginal scan he did that day was uncomfortable.
From memory, I felt like I had lead balloons in my belly, had trouble rolling over and couldn't lie on my tummy, was pretty bloated, and it sometimes hurt to sit down - the nurse told me that this was because I had fluid in my 'pouch' (can't remember the medical term for it, but it's the dip between your uterus and your bowel). I watched the entire Sex and the City series (all of them, back-to-back, plus the movie) because doing too much physical activity really exhausted me. And I had some nausea on and off, but also had a varying appetite. I was pretty emotional, but this was partly because I was really tired. This is all before EPU.
After EPU, the bloating was still there about 24 hours later, but nothing too bad. They put me on a drip because of the number of follies collected - the woman next to me jumped out of bed 20 minutes after her EPU! My main problem afterwards was constipation :redface: because of all the hormones, which took a week to clear up. I also felt a bit breathless, especially if I was too active. I rested up, drank lots of water, and felt fine three days later - still a bit tired, but much better.
I was also unlucky that my EPU happened in the same week that Melbourne hit 40 degrees, every day. This meant I really was relegated to the couch, because doing anything physical was impossible in the heat.
I hope that whatever decision you make, it's the right one for you. How are you feeling now? Certainly an EPU should make you feel a bit better, but then I've only been through one. My thoughts are with you, make sure you're kind to yourself.

The Doctor phoned me to discuss it further and I was slightly relieved by what we discussed. He said that although the risk is there, there is no way that they would go ahead with EPU if there was a significant risk. He spoke with both myself and my husband and discussed risks. Although he recommended a fresh transfer, he said we will wait and see on transfer day as to how I'm feeling (although I am leaning toward freezing all embies - if they eventuate - and giving my body a break and let the estrogen levels settle a bit) decisions, decisions.
Thanks again Seph, your post has really helped me with my thought process (ie trying to think logically!) Wow, how long did it take to watch the entire SATC series? I often watch it on Fox, (when little ears aren't around as it can be pretty full on :redface:) but love it's brutal honesty in regard to girlie stuff.
BTB - Hopefully AF is early in keen anticipation for your transfer. I'm glad that you have had a chance to relax a bit and just go with the flow for a while. 5 is a good number to have on your side!!

Well you seem to be further along the cycle than any of us in the thread here and surely all the good vibes flowing your way from us all have got to give carma a good leg up. It's very surprising what people say without thinking - my closest friend responded the exact same way. She said she didn't want me getting hurt by getting my hopes up - I know she meant well but I really felt like thunping her (shouldn't have such negative thoughts scratch that). Have not been in for a while, just lurking, congrats to the BFPs!
Well I'm having a little pitty party today. I start with the synarel again in 7 days. I rang the FS to check if i could delay IVF # 2 cause DP is home from OS work at the end of Aug and thought we could use fresh TESA sperm rather than the frozen vial we have left due because of the c****y quality of the last defrosted vial (scientist said it was why we had such a poor outcome). Unfortunatley they could not do it over the time he was home. So i asked if he could have another TESA while he was home for freezing, but they said they would not do it because it was "pointless" (not gettin very positive vibes about this cycle). This leaves us with two options because he is only home twice a year (next IVF chance would be Dec and FS closes over that time). 1. Donor sperm, which DP won't have a bar of 2. Reversal with only a 40% chance of success at $7000, and DPs impossible work schedual to fit it around. Otherwise it is only one go per year at a IVF cycle when DP is home. So basically if i get a BFN with no frosties again (which, given the advice of the FS and scientist is likely) i'm pretty much out of the baby race.
Sorry for ranting, i just needed to vent.
