Long Term TTC & Assisted Conception - Sept 2006

Hey Leis,

I was actually on Lucrin (10iu then went down to 4iu) and Gonal-F (started at 75iu and gradually increased up to 150iu).

The reason they only got one was becasue the clinic stuffed up somewhere along the line (have actually said that next round will not cost us anything), either they missed my eggs (my body released them early - i went into theatre aprrox 37.5 hours after trigger) or there never was mature eggs there (they said the sonographer could have stuffed up).

As you can imagine after that i was devestated, but things looked brighter when our 1 egg matured and they were able to fertilise it. They then said there wasnt much chance of it dividing and it did that too..... so hopefully he is a fighter and is hanging on in there.

it's probably because you're on so low a dose of Lucrin that you O'ed before trigger. I've only ever been on 15iu of Lucrin, never less than that! Did they explain why they lowered your dose?

No he never explained why they lowered it, but was his plan to start at 10 and then eventually go to 4. He did mention that he was going to up my Gonal-f but another doc told him not to do it, he thinks that may have caused a problem.

Either way, he has admitted his stuff up, just hope this little one sticks because i dont think i am up for another full round so soon.

Wow so I wasn't the only one all those years back with PCOS!! Well you are a couple of years younger than me but back when I was diagnosed noone seemed to have it! I felt so lonely through my teens when all my friends were getting their periods and I had one then none at all. Also fact finding was impossible. The only information I had was it was called Stein-Leventhal Syndrome and had been discovered in the 30's and was very rare. God that made me feel good. I had some strangely named disease that noone seemed to have had for fifty odd years! And even stranger I was jealous of the other girls for having periods! How I wanted to whinge about my periods with them!

Welcome back Sam T, I too feel like we need breaks from these very emotional cycles and we are now starting on our 5 cycle and first since Feb/March this year.

Hi Lou, I'm here! I get to check the thread most days, but no time to post!
I'm still just plodding along on the pill. I start the Synarel on the 3rd and have a blood test on the 11th. So, now I have some dates I feel like things are starting to happen.

Welcome back Sam. I hope this cycle is a success for you. Please keep us up to date with how you are going. How do you feel on the Synarel?

Welcome Fi. It's a great support to have others going through the same thing as you at around the same time. With any luck we'll all be heading over to the belly buddies together! ;)

Hi Girls

Finally AF has arrived this morning and so i gave kim her first injection of 150iu Gonal-F, she has been sniffing the synarel since Saturday so looks like she will be having a long cycle this month. Rang the doc and he is please AF came right in the nick of time!! First U/S for Kim on Wednesday and she will have had 6 injections so hopefully she will have heaps of follicles by then. I also will have to have a blood test to make sure my E2 levels are playing the game, if not i wont be having a natural cycle and have to start on some estogen then...Hope anyone else who reads this is ok!

Well I finally got my dates from the clinic, I start Syneral on Thursday next week and have my scan on the 11/10. It's a bit longer than the "example cycle" that they give you in the information pack, but I guess they are lining me up to go at a time when they are operating etc. The nausea from the pill has finally subsided too thank heavens and I am finally over the rotten flu I had so all in all things are on the mend for me.

Megan and Lou - how are you both going with the pill

Lou - just to let you know that my letter with the dates took a little longer than they said it would and that it arrived the day I called them to ask where is was, I was started to get worried.

Sam - welcome back, another endo girl, there's a few of us around, I really should put my details back in as a sig but keep forgetting

Hope everyone is well, sorry I have been MIA.
Our computer decided to kark it & I had a week of work so I couldn't use any computers (finally moved into our house).

Anyway we had our post coital test, which was all good.
He even showed me under the microscope all the swimmers going round (quite fasinating).

So that was a relief that ok but then he said because swimmers are good, I am Oing & this test fine now we have to do further investigating which means he has booked me in for a laparoscopy, hyproscopy (or something like that) & dye for 4th October.
He said if I have endo & it's easy to fix he will do it then & there.

I am actually quite nervous about it because he said there can be complications if they hit a blood vessel or your bowel.
I'm sure lots of you ladies have had this done, can you give me any info on it?

I have had 9 laps with hysteroscopy,my last was in Feb this year. They are not pleasant by any stretch, most times you will need about a week off work, depending on what they find it can be quick and easy or a bit more heavy duty. It's normal to have a bit of pain afterwards and I personally react to the anesthetic. A lot of people get referred shoulder pain (from the gas they use) but this is less of a problem if you have a surgeon that leaves a small tube in one of the incisions to let the gas out. They always give you the stats of what could go wrong so that you can be informed before you go in there. Where are you located? Sounds as though your dr sees a bit of endo, sometimes it's a hard thing to treat so here's hoping you don't have it. Good luck with it, I think most of us have had at least one so we should be able to answer all your questions.

Megan and Kim - congrats on getting things going and on the quiet glad that af has shown her face.

Jane - Looks like your cycle is just alittle ahead of Megan and i so I hoping that you can sprnkle any of your sticky vibes our way as you go on your journy (I will be sending mine to you express post!)i wish you the very best with your journey.

DJTTC - good to see you back to hope its not for long. I believe that the doc's have to say there are possible complications just to cover their backs. ive had both proceedures done twice and unfortunnitly i have had both complications. they poped a blood vessel during ep and have now discovered that my bowel is completly attached to my ovaries, left remaining tube uteus and what ever else i guess!!!I have survived and dont really suffer although i take a ground mix of linseed, sunflower seed and almonds every day to help me stay regular.

If you are happy with you Gyn and trust him/her it is a stem forward in your journey. Good luck and let us know how you get on.

Jane, I'm glad to hear that you're feeling better on the pill. I have been very surprised. I felt extremely dodgy the morning after I took my first one, only a little dodgy the day after and have been fine ever since. I've never been on this particular brand before...I wonder if that makes a difference?? I'm relieved though. Would love to have no side effects for the rest of my cycle!

Lou, well I guess you could say we are cycle buddies!! lol We'll probably be having EPU's and transfers within days of each other if our bodies do what they are supposed to! I'm getting excited now....but trying to keep calm because I don't want to get my hopes up.

Jo, good luck with all of your tests on the 4th. I haven't had any of those tests done before so sorry I don't have much to offer in the way of advice! ;) Just that I will be thinking of you and I hope everything is ok.

Thank you for the warm welcomes, it is great to have a few of us at the same stage so we are all in it together! I have a blood test and ultrasound on Monday, and a job interview, so it is a big day!

Jo - I have had 2 laps (in 2001 and 2005), both to treat endo, and like Jane anaesthetic is not my friend, and the morphine they gave me for pain was even less of a friend! After the first one I have really bad shoulder pain from the gas, and every now and then I get it out of nowhere. Basically I had quite a bit of bleeding for a few days afterwards and a swollen, very sore belly, I needed a minimum of a week off work. I was terrified the first time as I had never had surgery before, but all those warnings really are just a worst case scenario. If you do have endo you will be relieved to get rid of it believe me!

Megan - The first few days of synarel were awful, I had headaches and was really dizzy, hot and basically felt terrible, I was cranky and mean too! When AF came that seemed to clear up, and it has been easier this month. I believe they use it to treat endo so Ithink it must be doing something good in there! How are you going?

Jane - Yep, another endo girl. It's funny, most people I know haven't heard of it, but in here I see so many people actually have it.

Lou - You are right about needing a break After I had my lap last year I was on a big high thinking things would happen naturally, obviously they didn't and I had a hard time with that. We used to live in a remote location and had to fight DH's work like hell for a transfer. Now we are just stoked to be here and getting on with it, and trying to stay really positive, which can be hard for me sometimes (DH is great at being positive!) but it sure beats making myself miserable! Good luck with #5 :goodluck: I will be sending you loads of sticky vibes.

Sam, where in the NT are you? I lived in Darwin growing up and I really miss it in some ways - especially the weather! I love the Northern Territory...must get back for a trip in the not too distant future.

Hi Megan. I am in Darwin, we moved up from Adelaide just over 2 years ago, but we spent 9 months here, then 18 months in Tennant Creek, and have been back for a month. I love it too, we had the first rain of the wet last night and it was beautiful. DH Grew up here and moved to Adelaide about 8 years ago, he brought me up for a holiday and we decided to move but it took 5 years before we did!

I lived in Leanyer and then Palmerston (when it was a brand new town). I hear it is massive now and still have some family living there. I haven't been back for 10 years though so I imagine it's changed a lot.
Ahh the rain. I really miss that heavy rain and the storms. Ok, you've made me want to go back now! lol

We are off next week to my parents so will catch up with you all when I get back. AF arrived today. I thought this month was a good chance.... anyway all this business with no internet has taken my mind away from having to think about AF visiting.

We live in Palmerston, it has grown heaps, I first came up in 1999 for a holiday and it is massive now compared to then. The first time we drove out here on that holiday, DH was whinging he had to drive so far to visit his mate and calling it "palmerslum", then 10minutes later we were at his mates and he was like "it's not as far as I remember"! We love it up here, moving here was the best thing we ever did.

I'm concerned for my DH!! I have been such a B***H today and I feel like I have no control over it. Another symptom of the pill it seems as I remember feeling this way on it before and is another reason I was rarely on it.
It's awful. Woke up this morning, got up to find DH had vacuumed, cleaned the kitchen and he made some innocent comment and I snapped at him. It hasn't stopped all day. We went out for lunch and I was awful to him while we were there and then the tears started. Whats wrong with me??
I have just had a 2 hour nana nap and DH is now hiding upstairs on the computer! lol
I feel really bad and concerned about how I will be when I'm on the synarel if this is what I'm like now.

Hey Megan, I was a horror on the pill too, luckily they didn't give it to me before the synarel, but when I took it for contraception (if only I knew that I didn't need it!!!) I was pretty cranky and could never find one that didn't make me sick. I am not sure what experience others have had with synarel, but I was a tired grumpy b***h for the first 4-5 days, and then okay after that. I am not sure if it was the medication itself or the whole ivf reality setting in that made me so cranky and emotional. Who knows??? I hope you start feeling better soon mate.

If anyone would be willing to share their experiences with the different medications with us newbies it would be super helpful! Warnings from a packet or nurses isn't the same as first hand experience.

Thanks Sam. Good to hear that I'm not alone! Thankfully I have been a bit better today. DH asked me if I wanted some time to myself and offered to do the grocery shopping. So, off he went to the gym and shopping and I had 3 blissful hours to myself. Bless him! I slept, watched telly and surfed the net a bit. I think it was what I needed. I have been suffering with a bad headache for most of the day, but I can cope with that if I can have time to chill out and relax a bit.

Good point, wondering if the mood swings are drug related or an emotional reaction to the whole concept of "I'm actually going through with IVF". I guess I will just have to see how the next couple of weeks progress. I'm not even near the hard part yet! lol

I am not posting much but doing a bit of lurking. I am in the middle of my second IVF cycle at present and finding it both emotionally and physically more draining than the first. We did the first one with no real expectations of getting a good result and I did not find it difficult at all, with no bad or emotional reactions to the drugs, although with hindsight I was more tired, especially on the crinone in the 2ww. We got pg, but sadly miscarried, so we are doing it again. This time we have alot riding on it as it is our last go and I guess, cos last time was successful I have higher expectations, even though I am trying not to. Anyway am on day 4 of injections and have been really tired since starting synarel and after about 8 days of synarel have been an absolute b*&tch. For me, the reactions have been due to the emotions of what is riding on this cycle, not due to the actual drugs I think. When I did the first cycle, I thought the whole thing was a breeze but I now have a new great admiration for people that keep going back again and again as it is very difficult emotionally.

Megan - I hate to break up our little union already but i saw my Gyn today and she wants to get going a bit eariler as she's going on hols on the 5th Nov and i guess she wants to have our little embies back in befor then so that she can do it. She emailed the nurses tonight and I should hear if its possible in the next couple of days. I hope that doesnt mean that i have to double up with the spray though as thats what i did last time!

Jane - i hope the treatment is going well for you at the moment ? Please drop in and let us know how your doing

Zap - im sorry but could you explain (or someone reading this) what IUI is as ive never had any other option other than IVF so not looked into anything else.

anney - i really hope this is the cycle for you please dont put too much preasure on yourself, i know that is much easier to say or write and please do quote me on it when im up to the same stage as you are now in your cycle.

Sam T - I can really relate to you. I look back and think wow what a b!tch i was on syneral, but at the time thought it was everyone else. i have said b4 when i am doing a cycle i try very hard to have everything in harmony and it really doesnt work with the drugs and stress we are under, and as hard as it is to say i am getting better with the more cycles im doing and i think DH is getting better at tolrating (sp?) me!Last time i was a bit more relaxed although i did kick up a fuss about taking tww off work and was advised by my chinese herbilist to do NOTHING (which i took liturally), no cooking (not that i do anyway)No cleaning and no heavy lifting (I work in a babies room) I did get pg but am now in the dilema of what to do for this cycle as i have no holiday left and work can be a bit funning about having time off. am in the process of discussing with DH and boss (who is fantastic)

Megan - Funny how just being left alone does wonders when you are cranky hey? DH does shift work and was on afternoon shift (3pm - 12pm) for first few days I was on synarel, which was a relief for me because I could just chill out at home without getting cranky at him! Not that he was doing anything to make me cranky, but it just stopped me from feeling awful for snapping at him lol. I am glad to hear you are feeling better, I hope it keeps getting easier for you.

Lou - I used to work at a child care centre and it is full on, you don't realise how rough kids can be til you have 10 of them jumping on you! Good luck and I hope you find a way to get the rest you need this time around for the tww.

We had an ultrasound and blood test today. My blood test showed that the synarel is doing it's job, which is great, but the ultrasound showed that there are 20 follicles on one side (plus 10 on th other), so they said they have to monitor me pretty closely when I start the Gonal-F in a few days. The doctor wrote "PCOS?" on my chart, not sure what to make of that :help: I am a little freaked out by that as I have had 2 laps for endo and both times the removed cysts as well and it isn't an experience I am keen to repeat. We also found out today that DH has high levels of abnormal sperm, so they are going to do ICSI. I am a little cranky because the test was done in March and they didn't let us know til today. Not happy Jan :mad:

I am pretty cranky at the moment (for no good reason mind you) so goodness knows what I will be like on Thursday when I start Syneral. I have put on weight as well which isn't helping things, so I am blaming the pill for that rather than the comfort eating I have been doing lately.

Hope everyone is well. I have been knitting a fair bit which is why I haven't been online much, it's my stress relief and a sign I am waaaay too stressed.

Sam, that's frustrating only finding out about DH's abnormal sperm now.
I hope you don't have PCOS and have to go through another lap. Maybe ask next time you see your Dr or have your next ultrasound.

Lou, that's exciting that things might be moving a bit quicker for you!! As a very rough guide (from what the nurse gave me) I would be due for EPU at the end of October.

The moodiness is a bit better the last 2 days but I seem to have developed thrush. I've been lucky enough to have never had it before so I'm not sure. Would it possibly be a side effect of the pill??

Megan thrush could definitely be from the pill...Make sure you get some sort of acidopholus supplement to keep your good bacteria count up.

Welcome to all the newbies and sorry for not posting much....I ahve kinda been lurking but not looking in here too much....too depressing at the moment.

Well we have finally got our appointment with Lyndon Hale on Monday after waiting since early May and I am scared sh**tless. I have this friend in this social group I am in who quite frankly is giving me the irrits at the moment and I know It is probably all me so that irritates me even more. She has always been the "Golden Child" to all the other members of the group and can do no wrong even though she is no saint - had a blatant affair on her husband for over a year then left him for this guy and is now pregnant, which is fine I'm glad for her. But whenever she has troubles everyone fawns over her, which is also fine. Me......nothing nudda. Have had three miscarriages, no response....I mention tonight we are starting IVF, no good luck I hope it works out....all I get is gees that's expensive...... but you're not married yet aren't you doing it in the wrong order and even one person said "I don't want to know about it...TMI". WT?

So now I have come home stewing and questioning whether we are doing the right thing or not. Maybe we should wait until after the wedding in February, but then I think I am 37 and time is ticking away.....I dunno it just all seems so hard at the moment, why can't we just get pregnant and back out babies between ciggies like other people do? Life sucks!

Mel, no no no no no, don't listen to them. I would give them the two finger salute and go get started with Lyndon on Monday. I wouldn't worry about being married or not, even if best case scenerio you get pregnantfirst cycle you still will be married before you have the baby (if that is important to you).

My boss was the opposite, and not from a caring thoughtful nice place, she wanted me to "talk her through the process" so she could work out how much money I would be costing them on my days off, so I gave her TMI.

Lyndon has a really nice manner and is very thorough and he works really quickly, I imagine you won't know what hit you on Monday, so you hang in there and don't listen to the nay sayers (sp?).

Megan - how is your cranky club membership going? I am starting to think mine is more stress related than drug related, with my work giving me a hard time the last few weeks about leave for IVF, I am just really looking forward to getting on with it, I start sniffing tomorrow.

Sam - I wonder if DH just had an abnormal result this time, I know my DH gets varying results when he gets tested, glad to hear that syneral is doing it's thing
