Long Term TTC & Assisted Conception September - October 2013

My FS is away, so another FS did my biopsy.
It sort of makes sense- when I asked him what happens if it come back positive, he was adamant that he didn't know what my FS's protocol was regarding NKC.... I thought that odd as they both work for MIVF and how different could the protocols be?!?!
He said he would put me on predeselone (sp) if I was his patient.

How long will the results take?
I want to start a FET on Monday- is it possible for my FS to put me on the meds, just in case of positive results?

On a side note- if this comes back negative, then our next option is PGD- gosh it makes an already expensive venture, double the price!

Emma, ditto what Andie and N2L said about the treatments and diversity of opinions about their validity. Yes, you can go on the immune protocol with prednisone (or prednisolone), clexane, low dose aspirin, feldene without the diagnosis - that's what my FS has had me on this year and I haven't had any testing for NKC... He just prescribes it without testing, but it's worth noting that a lot of other (more conservative) FS would disapprove of his treatment protocols...

If those extra meds can't hurt me- I was already on clexane- then I'm going to insist on them.

I don't know about everybody else- but I'm seriously running out of money.

You won't get results by Monday. I had to wait a couple of weeks from memory.

There are only a few FS in Melbourne that will treat for NK cells. I remember Monash publishing a few studies which dismissed it, saying results for the Colorado Protocol are worse than regular protocols. I remember their waiting room being covered in articles about these studies, my DP pointing them out and me thinking "Great :(" because I was smack in the middle of doing a colarado protocol :lol:

Ps I actually changed from MIVF to Monash to get tested and treated for NK cells.

PPS - your DH has to take the antibiotics too for a stim

emma, I got tested & treated at mivf. biopsy got sent to sydney for analysis & like n2l said it took a couple of weeks. also, some fs's like to start the steroids before starting stimming meds. apparently there can be a cumulative effect of the steroids & can take 2-3 goes to work. i got a bfp after 2 try's. xx

Rai- regularly I want to slap myself. Got a kick up the bum from my new acupuncturist though which has led me to eat wheat free, meat free, sugar free and caffeine free for the last week. I knew I had to make changes, but sometimes it takes someone else to tell you.
I think it's important to remember you are human. There's no problem with treating ourselves every now and then :-)

Emma, you want to begin by the start of your FET cycle because it takes a few weeks to become effective (ie you don't start on transfer day because that's too late). For my IUIs, I start the same day that I start stims.

Miss.B, definitely take them 15-30 mins before bed. They're also prescribed for insomnia (ie they make you sleepy!)... You only need to take them during the follicular phase (ie from AF to O) to improve egg quality. If you're not doing a medicated cycle, they can sometimes affect O (but doesn't happen for everyone).

It will knock you out. Take an hour before bed. Are you on 4mg?

Yep n2l, 4 mg. My FS prescribed it a few months ago and I think it was to do with improving egg quality, but I never filled in the prescription. I asked him again on Monday after my scrape and he said that there have been great studies on it in terms of improving your chances of conceiving in IVF??? He said it's definitely worth taking it even now, I have 2 months before my transfer. Will it make me sleepy the next day?

Juniper, I won't be doing a medicated FET, but I suppose if I need to do another stim cycle it might help with egg quality then....

If you take it too late you might have a slight 'hangover' from it but nothing a good strong coffee won't fix! You need to take it at least three months before a stim for it to have any effect.

Eta - you can get it from Slade Compoundia chemist at Docklands

Miss.B, I never felt sleepy the next day, but I'm usually an insomniac (going to bed at 1am, etc), so I'm usually sleep-deprived and tired, so I get much better sleep when I'm taking them and waking up feeling better than normal...

Speaking of tablets, I keep forgetting to take mine with dinner lately, and I take most of my supplements with dinner... *sigh* Not eating now just for the sake of taking them all...

quick eggie update, we now have 11 fertilised, and 9 are on track and a few are ahead, and 2 that are lagging just behind the 8 ball. So now its a wait and see until saturday morning and hope that we have a good one for transfer and a bonus would be some to freeze.

As for me, we had 8 eggs collected and 7 have fertilised!! We are over the moon at the moment. I just had my pre transfer acupuncture so feeling pretty sleepy! Transfer is tomorrow at 8am and then another acupuncture appointment straight after.
Perfect timing then to put my feet up over the long weekend.

AFM, the first night I took the sleeping tablet nothing much happened, I was so paranoid that I was going to fall into this deep sleep, that I kept waking up all night, lol. Last night when I took it again, I slept much better and I was up at the crack of dawn, I think you're supposed to wake up at first light? 6.15 am, a bit early for me! I am a night person, so I don't go to sleep much before midnight, so waking up as 6.15 didn't go down well, lol.

AFM--- 2nd scan this morning - boy was she rough!! Not my usual nurse, I really find it amazing that some of them push and prod so hard - I get I am overweight and my ovaries like to hide - but boyoboy.... She was digging in today!!!

Still baseline.... Back on Monday and FX we will see something then :)

incidentally they did some update bloods this week (2 years since the last lot) .... I got a letter sent from melbourne pathology... It appears they took my blood type again.... I am still A Rh- ..... Of course!! Like that's going to change and needs a repeat blood.... Waste of someone's time and money - probably the governments..... Or mine.....

Trying to feel hopeful, but kind of feel a bit apathetic.....

Tonight i bought baby stuff for my sisters baby shower on Sunday..... That's going to be hard.... I'm worried her in laws will ask me questions and push me re baby stuff - as they speak limited English its all weird. They don't know anything about me, but they are Serbian and its all about marriage and babies if you are a woman.... Plus my sister and I have an up and DNA relationship as some of you are aware... We sorted out our differences a couple do weeks ago, but I still feel awkward, plus her friends probably all think I am a ***** cause she has whinged about my evilness to them. Sigh. Just going to suck it up - but it will feel weird all around. Going to another friends party in gippsland tomorrow so at least that will help distract me in the meantime.

I got bloods n scan done on Fri that said I already O'd! They then asked me if I had sex in last 2 days lol lucky we had! Because that was my first set of bt scan and they were meant to tell us when to bd! Lol
They said next time they get me in earlier!
Here's the thing tho, on my scan that morning I had a 26mm egg on lft and some 18mm on rt and left ovaries, will I still O them too? :o lol
Oh and my lining was 8.5 on Friday, is that thick enough?

Transfer all done of apparently a perfect embie. It looks like we may not have any to freeze though... They will give them one more day. So excited and bummed at the same time.

Sarah, glad to hear you didn't miss your window in spite of the late scan! I find sometimes DH can be a better indicator of impending O than OPKs; must be something to all that pheromone stuff! ;)

A little update from me... Finally got my b/t results from the GP's office yesterday. Had the test done Monday of the previous week but there was a delay in my GP receiving the results. Anyway, the results are indicative of Hashimoto's (auto-immune condition). Because, you know, we needed another TTC obstacle... Especially one that can cause birth defects if left untreated... But it does explain my difficulty losing weight, constant fatigue and some other issues. Problem is, the TSH is within the "normal" limits according to the GP (however, outside the range most specialists recommend for TTC), so not sure if she'll treat it since most GPs just treat based on TSH... Will have to wait for my appt with the GP to find out (a week from Monday)... I can't help but have this feeling of déjÃ* vu - a supposedly classic presentation of a potentially serious condition and the GP may say it's "normal", just like happened with my endometriosis for so many years... :wall:

Juniper my husband has that and honestly like you said Doctors only treat it if it goes high. My DH got treated by our acupuncturist/naturopath as she said same, Doctor only throws meds at it when its off charts instead of trying to control it before it gets to that level. Our Naturopath said gluten free is ESSENTIAL for thyroid control as it affects tsh hormones so both DH and I went gluten free. Might be worth chatting to your naturopath also
Ps. Sorry to hear you have another hurdle hopefully between your naturopath/Gp you'll get it sorted so it won't affect your tcc
