Dh and I are looking to have IVF for number 4 as I am in or have been thru prem menopause. I am 35 this year and desperately wanting number 4. We have private health, but it only covers private in public atm. So we are looking at costs. I seem to fall easily (7 BFP's but only 3 made it). Last one was last march. I have had no cycle since and we have been referred thru IVF aust at westmead. We worked out that a full cycle with our level of cover would be around 8K. Does that sound right? Is there anywhere that is cheaper etc? Should we shop around? I feel so small in this huge void of information etc. I just want to get on with it IYKWIM. Any advice would be very welcome.
Does your 8k include the Medicare rebate?
I've just paid, just over 9k for my stim cycle with ICSI- I'm expecting to get 5k back from Medicare.
My brain is not behaving at the moment, so the figures may not be exact.
I'm at one of melbournes most expensive IVF clinics.
Thats about what ours cost. Closer to $10k when you take into account anesthetic cost and day stay st private hosp (not included in our ivf quotes). But you get sone back with medicare. I can't recall exact but its just under half for us (not sure if that varies family to family)
That figure sounds about right. I'm in Melb and paid around $9k for a stim cycle with ICSI, and another $3k for PGD. This was just over a year ago.
The clinic may want to run their own tests too, which may or may not incur further fees (ultrasounds, blood tests, semen analysis etc).
It's expensive, but you might want to consider PGD. It can reduce the incidence of miscarriages by identifying embryos that have chromosomal abnormalities, therefore only 'normal' embryos will be transferred. There's no medicare rebate for the PGD portion though.
thank you all so much for your replies. I am hoping I will only need once cycle to fall as I have fallen so easily with the others. The last one m/c was because it didn't have a good lining to implant into they think. Hence the no bleeding even to date. I am feeling all periody this past 2 weeks. Emotional, boobs sore, lots of CM and that is soooo NOT normal for me since menopause started (got so dry and bad they put me on estrogren pessaries), moody and crampy. I had EWM almost 2 weeks ago too. But only for one day and no period or anything as yet.... I am so frickin confused by my body right now. Last time I had the EWCM I got a BFP 10 days later but lost it (didn't implant). Wish I knew if I was having the occasional cycle, or just my body playing tricks on me
