LT Trying to Conceive with IUI #5

Hi all,

Murraycod.Good luck with IVf. I hope you get loads of grade 1 eggies and wishing you the easiest and stickiest transfer of embies.
How have you found the experience? Is it much different to IUI?
We are thinking that mabey IVF is the way to go if IUI doesn't work. We haven't got much time really so mabey we should just bite the bullet and do IVF next cycle.
Anyway waiting for AF so have a few weeks to decide.

Thanks Jilly X I have found the IVF similar to IUI....sort of.... more medications and needles, and much more precise, but so far I have actually enjoyed it!! ( I say that now but I havn't had a bad day yet!)
I ended up having 9 eggies collected on Monday, with 6 fertilising, so my fingers are crossed I have a healthy big blasty to transfer on Friday!XX

I'm very new to all this. I already have 2 beautiful children (8 and 11) and 1 husband who has since had a vasectomy. Although I never would have imagined it 6 years ago, we really want another baby and have had an assessment cycle at Pivet in perth. I never had any conception problems the first 2 times, but obviously I'm older now (36).

I am thinking of going down the IUI line and have been told to book a HyCoSy in for next month. But another friend of mine is also at Pivet and she says that the HyCoSy is optional. Does anybody know about this or have any advice for me? There's so much info and it get's very confusing.

Also do you have to use injectables for IUI or is this optional too? I know I need to ask Pivet all these questions, but thought I'd see if anyone out there can help first.

I am not sure what a hycosy is but I think you may be talking about to see if your fallopian tubes are still patent and ok. Most FS will do this procudure just to make sure you are ok.

I am not sure of the procedure with a vasecotomy for your husband. But they will get the sperm and then insert it at the right time for you.

Usually they will do injections of gonal-f or something along the same line to stimulate you to have two eggs, so it will be a low dose. Also they will do blood tests and you will have a ultrasound or two to see how you are responding to the drugs and how many follicles you have.Then when the time is right you will told when to inject ovridel (i think from memory) 36 hours before the IUI procedure.

The iui procedure is quick and painless.

We have just completed round 3 of IUI (natural cycle). We got another BFN today.
Just wondering if anyone can give advise on whether we should try another or go to IVF ?
We conceived naturally our first child 4 years ago but this time things are very different.
Have had all test etc and ob just says its unexplained infertility....
We are in Newcastle - is anyone else ?

I had well over 3 failed IUI's but my FS said generally after three cycles of Clomid then three IUI (in that order I guess) it would be worth going to IVF. We got our 1st BFP on our 1st IVF cycle so I guess he was right all along! I was worried about the cost of IVF v. IUI which was a big difference but I guess you pay for the greatly increased chance of success.

I wrote you a load of information on progesterone levels in a private message last week, then BB promptly crashed on me. Here's some reference numbers to help you understand the results:

Normal Progesterone Values
female (pre-ovulation): less than 1 ng/mL
female (mid-cycle): 5 to 35 ng/mL
male: less than 1 ng/mL
postmenopausal: less than 1 ng/mL
1st trimester: 11.2-90.0 ng/mL
2nd trimester: 25.6-89.4 ng/mL
3rd trimester: 48.4-42.5 ng/mL
Note: ng/mL = nanograms per milliliter

Special note: Day 21 Prog reading in bold however, this score will go up by about 20 points per follicle that has ovulated. So you might see 56 if two follicles popped an egg, 75 if three popped. I always think a good Day 21 prog level is an positive indication, however, luteal support such as pregnyl can cause progesterone to be artificially elevated, which can get your hopes up for no reason. And nobody wants that.

I am interested in your "special note" section. I wonder if my Pregnyl 5000 injection as my trigger 5 days ago, would artificially elevate my P4 reading today. It was 83 !

Though the suggestion of follies each producing approx 20, would be on par with my scan results. Though I must admit I thought it would be higher ...

We're currently on our second cycle of iui with PCOS. Started on purogen and after 2 weeks there were stil no folicles so cycle was cancelled. They took bloods after another two weeks just to see what was going on and i was ovulating so had the insemination the next day. Now we're playing the waiting game. Usually after ovulation I get tender breasts and haven't this time so I'm really not sure what to think. Is this the case for anyone else? Fingers crossed for BFP.

I am on my 3rd natural IUI cycle but its already looking doomed :wall:
I've been monitored for hormone levels for previous two cycles only and my first cycle was 29 days and the second was 40 days! I really don't understand why my cycle length has changed since I started IUI ...my cycle length is normally 32 days. I am on CD17 and my estrogen level today was at 250 which is alarmingly low!!! For my first cycle by CD17 I'd already had the IUI and my level was at 1900 and for my second cycle on CD17 my estrogen level was at around 500! I am thinking this could either be a very long cycle for me and therefore my levels are not going up or I may not ovulate this cycle at all :(

I am getting frustrated with the uncertainty and unknown! I don't think I've ever had a cycle previously where I have not ovulated so I really don't know what's happening this time. The only thing that Ive done different this cycle is start accupuncture so I don't know if thats the cause of low estrogen levels. If my levels don't rise then I think my cycle will be cancelled. I am seeing my doc on Thur and am going to ask to move onto IVF.

To be honest I am really regretting going the unmedicated IUI route. I know it has worked for many women but my experience has left my very dissapointed and unhappy :(

:hello: mymiracle I'm currently doing my first AI cycle also. I have started the injections last Thursday which I was most anxious about, since I have to give them to myself bcos DH doesnt like needles!, anyways all going really well there. Found that it doesnt hurt at all and after a few days its very easy to set up and you get the hang of it ;) I have to go in for a BT on Sunday and possible U/S so that will tell us how the eggies are going and if there are any to do the AI cycle also when I'll be scheduled for it. I've only heard of one person here doing AI and they concieved first go so hopefully we'll also be that lucky! :pray: How far along are you in your cycle?

i am starting my injections today and i am so terrified by the thought of them.....it is so good to hear tht yous went well without any problem. i am sort of already getting mood swings...anyway DH thinks so....coz i've been so moody and nervous.....i'll let you know how it goes !

my nurse has called me for a BT on monday ...which i kind of thought was a bit early??? i confirmed twice with her tht it was this monday and she said yes....just to check the hormone levels .

Hi miracle dont worry I was in the same boat as you and now I'm doing the injections as if I were a nurse hahahaha I had a BT yesterday CD 9 in my cycle but they told me I needed to up the dosage I'm taking and go back on sunday for another BT and poss U/S so dont worry re the earliness of the BT ;) Good luck and we'll keep intouch ok

I just had my first injection and it wasnt tht bad at all expect the moment when i actually pierced with the needle !!!! i was alright until i was arranging the assembly etc...and then when i actually heal it to pierce....godddddd.....couldnt do it for 2-3 mins....and DH goes you'll be fine,cmon do it...blah blah....
he wasnt ready to come with me at first, then i challenged him....hehehe...said..you are such a coward cant just stand by me...look at me ,imagine what i have to do to myself etc etc....hahahahaaa...

now i am just worried abt the side effects.....keeping fingers crossed.....

I'm proud of us both, I was very anxious before piercing my skin the first time DH couldnt look at me hahahahaha He was going on about the fact that the nurse should be doing this which was making me more nervous but now that its become a daily thing and I'm more calm about it, its all good. He still doesnt watch tho! MEN! hahahaha
I have my next bt on Sunday so looking forward to what that says and when the AI will be, I'm assuming it will be early-mid next week so here's hoping its not painful! Let me know how you go :) xo

i was in double mind yesterday ,to tell my boss or not??? coz i will need some time off. finally i told me...i am having a medical procedure done and will need time off but cant give enough notice. my job requires tht i let them know weeks in advance !!! but he was absolutely fine, he didnt even ask me what was it for......i was so glad. i didnt want to let anyone know at work coz there is a very gossipy group there. and didnt want this to be a topic for gossip !!!! now there is one more boss i have to tell, but she;s a female so i dont think it;ll be a problem.

Hey miracle, I'm glad your boss was good with everything and that you didnt need to give details. I told my work that Im having something completely diff done cos they are a gossipy crowd aswell and if it doesnt work I dont want to be explaining anything to them :shhh: but I hear ya on the "do I tell them or what do I say?!" My clinic is open on the weekend its a Fertility clinic in NSW (Next Generation). There arent any FS' oncall but the nurses are there until 12 on Sundays and you pretty much only deal with them throughout the whole thing. They told me its only a BT tomorrow but I'm thinking since I'll be CD 12 already I'd be close ( I usually O around CD15-16). I'll let you know how I go anyways here's to being able to talk about this with someone going through the same thing :clap:
