clomid - can you tell if it's working?

I took clomid (50mg) back in 2007 (we were fortunate to conceive DS1 on the second cycle) - so while I've taken it once, I have kind of forgotten what it was like.

From memory, back in '07 I had very sharp pains in the region (I think) of my ovaries and I felt quite out of sorts. Anyway ... the 50mg obviously did the job it was supposed to, helping my ovulate and conceive.

So, I've taken 50mg clomid this cycle (now on CD11) ... so far zero "symptoms". No pain/twinges, no mood swings - and no sign of pending ovulation either.

My question ... by day 11, SHOULD I feel/see something to indicate it's working? I wish I could remember!!

    Hi

For me, I only got side effects mainly while I was taking it for the 5 days. The side effects wore off after that.. Luckily, the mood swings were shocking! I got ovulation pain the 1st cycle I took it, but not the 2nd cycle which is when I conceived Button so yours could well be working. Are you having day 21 progesterone bloods done? That will tell you if it worked or not..

Hi and thanks - yep, having bloods done on day 21. It's weird this time round - when TTC on clomid in '07 I was under a FS and had at least a couple of blood tests around ovulation time. I guess to see if I was going to, and to make sure I wasn't going to pop out too many eggs! This time round I'm "just" with an Ob/Gyn. So no blood tests leading up to O - just the 21 day-er.
Interesting that you had side effects while taking it - I haven't felt an ounce different. I will be happy not to get the sharp abdominal pains - I recall taking a day off from work they were so bad!

The only bloods I had were day 21. That's all you need to show if you have O'd or not. It's not pleasant getting bloods all the time!. Lucjy you for having no side effects. Mine weren't as bad 2nd time around.. Good luck!

Thanks Ahurani - interesting you say you got hot flushes. I've had what I "think" were hot flushes when I was taking it - would happen early in the morning (6am ish). All the best for you too xx

Had a few twinges today, so maybe that's a little sign something is happening.

Can anyone tell me if clomid affects CM? Does it reduce it??

CD14 is today and no sign of anything. I haven't got a glass-half-empty attitude about things, but a little sign or two that ovulation is pending wouldn't go astray!

It definitely reduces CM in a big way.

    Don't give up hope yet!

    Good luck

Clomid can be known to reduce cervical mucous.

In my case (because I'm wierd and stuff...) it actually increased my cervical mucous.

I'd still recommend you use preseed or a conception friendly lube! Preseed actually mimics fertile cervical mucous.

Are you having any tracking done? Using opks? The best opks I found were from eBay. They were the clearblue digital ovulation predictor kit. I think I got mine for just over 50 dollars (for 20 tests!)and in the chemists it's nearly 60 dollars for 7 tests! They show a smiley face the 2 days best to concieve! No matching lines or anything lol

And it may seem funny, but keep your hips raised on a spare pillow after DTD for a half hour.

    Good luck! Xox

    Ta for that N2L.
Even when I had looong cycles, and most likely annovulatory (well, I think they might have been), I still got CM.
    I think my body's just weird .

LynsDan - "snap" ... thanks for the tips. And glad to see that it obviously worked ok for you - congrats!!

I used forelife sperm friendly lube too for the record... I don't think clomid affected my CM though. Good luck!

Is preseed - any sperm friendly stuff - avail in chemists? I went looking for preseed (which I've previously heard about) in a big discount pharmacy yesterday and didn't see anything like it -only the "usual" lube.

I have only ever found pre seed online but I got forelife sperm friendly lube from priceline chemist. I would do that, but if you specifically want preseed, online is your best option.

I think there's only a few chemists that sell it. I think there is locations on the preseed website. Lullaby conceptions sell it on the net.

I swear by preseed. The first month I used it was the month I got pg.
