RE: discussing baby names. I read somewhere once, years ago, that no matter what name you choose, for whatever gender, if you tell people about it, there is ALWAYS someone who had a dog with the same name while they were growing up. lol ...It's a theory I live by LOL So you'll never get a baby name out of me!

That is so funny because the main girls name that we have picked, DH actually had a dog with that name. He totally loved that dog. She was a working dog so she became his companion for some time. She died 5 years ago. Sadly she was attacked by another dog. He was the one that decided that he wanted to use the name for a girl when/if we have one, way back before we were even married. It took me ages to get my head around it because it was a dog's name but I actually really love the name now.

Just a quick question. My FS got back to me and said she would not give me the FHS injectables she said something about only giving them to me if we were doing egg retreival which i'm not. Cause i have been on clomid so long i thought a change might help something. What are your thoughts? I'm confused. Also is there any thing else i can suggest to the FS. Thanks in advance for advice. Well today i am starting clomid for the first time. I am currently CD5 (this was the earliest appointment i could get and i have irregular cycles, happened to get AF on sat) but my gyno says it is fine to take clomid days 5-9 instead of 2-6.

How will i know when i am ovulating? i can't use OPK's (they are always positive), i don't get EWCM, and i don't temp.....yet.

Does clomid regulate your cycles? If so, is it straight away?

Just wondering what i should be prepared for, any help would be great :D

Hi Rai,

My understanding is the next thing after clomid is IUI or IVF. Most doctors wont prescribe clomid for longer than 12 months but I guess given that you have had the break, it might not be a problem. If I were you I would ask to have a review session with your FS and work out a short/medium/long term plan that you are both happy with. Given that you have been on clomid for so many cycles, it might be time to go the next step....

Hi Tasha

Welcome to the thread! I am currently on my third round of clomid (100mg). I have ovulated each time (YAY!) My FS gives me an internal ultrasound around CD16 to measure the follicles and the uterine lining. You should have one or two follicles and they need to be a good size (16-23mm). The uterine lining needs to be over 9mm. Then you will be given a trigger shot (something like Ovidrel) either there in the office, or to take home. This will cause you to ovulate 12-40 hours after the injection. You need to BD for three nights from the time of your trigger (including that night). I know some girls in here then have a blood test to confirm they have ovulated. My FS doesnt do that. But I know I have ovulated because I get pain. Your CM will be drier than normal on clomid so you may need a sperm friendly lubricant such as preseed. (make sure it is fertility friendly lube as most isnt!).
Clomid has regulated my cycles. And it did it straight away! I was VERY irregular before and I never ovulated.
Another thing, the best time to take clomid is night time. It lessens the impact of side effects. Although, my side effects went away after the first clomid cycle.

Tasha welcome to this wonderful thread. Clomid is supposed to help your eggs and help you to ovulate. Just with the length of your cycle, from being on this thread for quite a while, and from what everyone says, nothing is normal with cycle length and not every cycle can be the same. Also it could take a few cycles to regulate AF it just depends on what doasge you will need to have. Just a little question what dosage has your FS put you on?? Hope I haven't confused you and best of luck with taking the clomid hopefully you dodn't get too many side effects.

Rai not sure why she said that you would have them for egg retrieval, cause you also have FHS injections for the IUI process. So if you wanted to ask her about doing IUI it is alot less invasive than IVF and alot cheaper, we only pay around $100 per cycle including paying for the meds. I am doing IUI but without being artificially inseminated, we just go home after the trigger shot and DTD (sorry TMI) as DH has got perfect little fellas. Hope this helps you out.

WBM that's no good about AF being a pain in the bum. Hopefully it is only implantation spotting. Oh and I'm with the others I reckon you should call your FS or at least get a blood test before you start another cycle.

Porsche yay 12 weeks that is fantastic news, and yay you get to see your little bundle next week, I just know everything will be okay, just keep thinking positive.

Bec, those are all good signs, I get small cramping and bad back pain while on the injections, sort of similar to AF and CM there is lots of (sorry TMI). Also I get a little dizzy and nausia (sorry spelling), but they are some of the SE they said I could get. Oh and we are up to the same stage, I'm a few days ahead though. Best of luck for your scan.

Rhi poo on not getting a BFP, don't worry too much about jabbing in the right place, as long as it is in the lower part of your tummy, you are all good. Just a little hint though if they tell you to do it in your thigh, DON'T you will bruise and it hurts even more and in the belly doesn't really hurt at all.

Hello to everyone else, I'm sure I have missed people, but can't see anymore posts to reply to them.

AFM I went to the FS on Tues morning and I have 1 good follie in my left ovary and lots of little ones on my right (silly PCOS), so more jabbing for me and are going back to see him on fri morning again for another scan. It was quite funny we are going down to see my sis on the weekend and are coming back on mon, and I was joking around with her saying that we will prob have to sleep in the shed so they don't here us ;) and it looks like we might have to hehehe. DH is also going with me on fri so we can discuss the next step, as our FS was did mention running some more tests on tues and checking my tubes (not sure what that means??), but hopefully we won't have to worry. Oh and my weight loss, I haven't wieghed myself, but I am doing 30 mins on the treadmill everyday and eating smaller meals and feeling great for it :dance:

I have just been told to take the clomid this cycle & have BT on day 21, but no appointment this cycle. Then when my second cycle starts i call to make an appointment, have more day 21 BT and then go in to discuss if i have ovulated or not. I am already onto the preseed, buying some next week :) Hopefully i won't get too many side effects, been stressed out enough lately!

i haven't been on here in a while so i hope everyone is doing great whatever stage of there cycle there on and i am thinking about u all on this journey...

The reason i have been MIA is i had my appointment with SIVF and i think i went in there with very high expectations and thought that we would start something straight away but oh my goodness was i wrong the appointment couldn't have gone way different then i was thinking, now dont get me wrong our fs was really lovely and genuinely wants to help us achieve our goal or having a baby, but her main concern was that i had been bleeding for 5months non stop and the fact that this was not unusual for me as it had been happening since AF started when i was 12... so she immediately sent me to get an ultrasound and the results were definitely not good at all, it still shows that i have pcos but i also have a condition called endometrial hyperplasia and i have been rushed through to have an operation as she is very concerned about pre cancer cells, and to make matters worse i am terrified about going under general anesthetic and then if the results show pre cancer cells we forget about ttc and focus on this issue and i dont know how long the ttc would have to be put on the back burner, so i have had an awfull past few weeks and an awful few more to come as i worry constantly about the operation i am having to get done.... but on the upside we have found the best doctor ever she is absolutely brilliant i can not speak highly enough of her, she has genuine interest and concern and wants to help us, she has a great PA that calls me all the time to let me know whats going on and even the doctor calls and chats to be about certain results and such, so hopefully everything goes well and nothing is found and then we can start straight away with ttc....

My FS has put me on 50mg clomid to start with.
In the past 14 months since coming off BC my cycles have gone from 90+ days to 70 and the last two cycles have been about 40 days. Never in my life have i had 40 day cycles, they are usually twice a year (without BC) so I'm hoping they will regulate quickly as i my body doesn't give me many clues as to when (if ever) i ovulate.

Good morning ladies, wannababay - i think they will always for a vaginal scan for follies and early preg scans. I personally didnt find them too bad - but in saying that i did end up having quite a few and they sort of become normal after a while.

Rai - Sorry I can't answer your question. I was only taking Clomid with no monitoring and am due to start IUI, so I am a bit green as to what happens when etc...

Tasha - n2l has pretty much covered everything you need to be awareof when taking Clomid. I took mine from CD 3 to 7, so it really depends on what your FS says to do. In the end it may just be that you O late or earlier in your cycle, depending when you take it. (if that makes sense?)

Liz - GL with the follie - I hope you get a good size one & catch that egg! To check your tubes they will probably do a laparoscopy & dye study to see if there are any blockages....

Kriste - Cr@p! That is alot to take in & obviously not what you were expecting. I hope all is ok. *hugs*

AFM - CD29 & still no AF. Spoke to the clinic and they said if AF shows on Friday or the weekend just to come in Monday to get meds to start that day - no biggy she said.

epayne- $100 for IUI is great. What your doing with the injectables and trigger then home to DTD was what i wanted to do to try if that worked first before doing IUI. My FS checked my tubes which was flushing dye through them to see if they are open and ok. If that's what your having done i did not find it too bad but make sure you take painkillers before hand i took nurofen. You are supposed to be more fertile for 3 months after. good luck.

wannababymumma- when i get my follical scan its a vaginal ultrasound. I have them every month to check my follicals there not painfull. goodluck

kristie86 - Wow totally not what you wanted to hear. I'm glad you've found a great Dr. It makes all the difference. I hope it's nothing serious. FX. A general anestetic isn't all that bad. I've had 3 now. I was so frightened the first time I almost shook off of the bed lol. All they do is put a IV in your hand and put an injection of the sleepy stuff in there. Or you walk into the tearter and they do the happy gas. You are talking to them all one minute and the next your waking up in recovery. I couldn't remember dropping off. You'll be fine. You'll be in the best possible place. Good luck.

LMAO @ you Porsche! I have had a few "dildo cams" (as you so eloquently put it) when they have checked the cysts on my ovaries over the years, and I assumed it would be the same for the follie scans, but wasn't 100% sure. I hope that if I need to start having them (this is my last Clomid cycle with my OB/GYN, after that it's onto the FS and he will start scans, BT etc etc), that I can be as relaxed about it as you Porsche! It's not so much the actual camera, as the human being attached to it that makes me uncomfortable!

Sorry to hear about your news Kristie, hopefully they will get you through this quickly and safely and you can start your much wanted family soon. At least you have caught this while you are still young, I am sure it would be worse the longer it was left untreated!

Seems like a lot is going on here.

Kristie - I was on this forum a few months ago, and since I grew very fond of the women in here, I still come in and check in how everyone is going. When I read your post, I couldn't pass the opportunity to offer my support. Hun, that sounds terrible and so scary, not at all what you thought would be the outcome. One upside is that you can get your issues investigated and addressed so that you can achieve your long awaited and much desired PG. I hope there is no cancer cells in there and the operation is a success. Sydney IVF are amazing - I went there as well, and have a couple of friends who have undergone IVF treatment with SIVF (I fell PG on clomid), so I think you are in good hands. Best of luck with the operation and as Porsche says the general isn't too bad. Take care!!!

Kristie - I just wanted to say I am going through EXACTLY the same thing as you so I know how you feel. My FS told me she thinks I have endometrial hyperplasia at my last appointment so I have read up HEAPS and HEAPS about it since then. I have to have the same procedures as you. Basically the "operation" is just a biopsy so it's not too bad. It's just to check whether there are any pre-cancerous cells. If you are bleeding it is unlikely the outcome will be bad. Most of the time the cancer is developed by post menopausal women or women who very rarely bleed. I have a very good oncologist (He is the head of gyno oncology at the Royal Women's in Melbourne) that I already see for consistently high CA125 levels --- CA125 stands for cancer antigen levels and it is a tumour marker for ovarian cancer. According to him, these tests are precautionary and it's very unlikely to be anything to worry about. That said, I know how you feel. Trust me...It is hard not to worry. But try not to :)

Can you drink any alcohol when taking clomid?
I forgot to ask my OB/GYN. I know alcohol is a big no-no when ttc, but was just wondering if one or two would hurt. My cousin is coming interstate for the long weekend and would be nice to have a drink.

Tasha- Yes i know drinking while ttc is a no no but i do every now and again and i'm taking clomid and metmorphin so i would not worry about it. Hope you have a great weekend:)

AFM - well cd 34 and still no sign of OÃ*ng so I probably won't this cycle. My cycles have still been all over he place even with the clomid but the longest was 45 days. Have my doc's appt on the 11/11 so will have to see what he comes up with next.

sorry just a quick one from me as wwe have to pack the car, went to have another scan this morning and it was S**t. The follie that was on my left ovary has gone (don't know why) and my right side has got lots of little ones still that haven't changed at all. Our fs seemed a little puzzled as to what is going on so I had blood tests. I rang to get the results and I have to jab more and go back on tues for another scan, not getting my hopes up though :( Also our fs said that he would like us to think about IVF as he doesn't think this is going to work. As $$ isn't exactly flowing greatly at the moment we won't be able to do IVF till mid next year. So lots of thinking and talking to do over the next few weeks for us.

Hope everyone has a great weekend, I know I can't wait to see my sis, BIL and nephew.

Kristy- so sorry to hear your appointment threw you such a curve ball. I know it's scary not knowing what's happening, and it must be hard putting TTC on hold for a while. But just think, if you hadn't gone to the appointment you might not have know what was happening and it might have caught you off guard. Does that make sense? I hope it turns out to be a small and fixable thing and you are back on your feet soon.

Jules- Sorry AF showed up, and good luck with jabs. I am also a fellow jelly belly, and I reckon it helps! the jabs seriously don;t hurt much at all. GL!

Liz- how did the scan go today? Hopefully you can utilise your relatives shed...;) Looks like we are close in our cycles, hopefully in our BFP's as well!

AFM: Well I had my CD14 scan tomday and as usual not much is happening! Follies developing (heaps on each side) but no dominants yet. I have to up my meds and go back on Wed for another scan. I was a bit disappointed becasue I was hopping that I could Pregnyl today and DTD all weekend...;) lol! Anyway, a few more days wont really matter! Maybe I'll get all of the long weekend next weekend instead!

Hi ladies, hope your all doing well and trying to keep positive.

I am almost there shan shan 15 days to go till my due date but i have had a little talk with my belly and told maddison i think it would be best if she arrives on november 2 - melbourne cup day. I have a phsyco same date/day thing we have lots of double up birthdays in both familys, we have a birthday on halloween, anzac day, the queens actual bd, new year day, chrissy eve and things seem to happen on significant days. Good chances are that she will share a birthday anyway, we have october 31, nov 1, 3 and 6 oh and my friend is on november 22 but there is no way im holding out that long lol. Im feeling ok just very tired but im not working now so i have the chance to curl up in bed and snooze, my only problem is carple tunel in my left hand and fore arm which is pretty horrible but worth every pin and needle :)

tammara - My DD was born on Melbourne Cup day wayyyy back in 2002. She was born 1 minute before the race was run lol. No wonder she's horse mad.

Rhichichi - Good luck with the jabbing you'll be fine.

It depends Tasha. I found my worst side effects (migraines, nausea, dizziness) were when I took the tablets but the hot flushes and moodiness tended to be afterwards. Be prepared that sometimes ovulation pain on clomid is quite painful, but on the up side, if you get that at least you know you ovulated! HTH

Yes, i have heard this too. The last few cycles i had ovulation pains (i think they were o pains) but still unsure if i did O or not.
I have also heard that sometimes the body gears up to ovulate, giving you O symptoms, but then no egg is released. My cycles have been so crazy, it will be nice to just make a phone call and have someone tell me if i ovulated or not, rather than wondering and waiting! (OPK's don't work for me)

I get hot flushes from the 2nd day of taking the clomid for about 3 weeks (which is terrible when you have to teach exercise classes, leads to nausea and dizzy spells) and the mood swings just seem to keep hanging around (DH just gave me some handpicked roses which has made this day start off well though). I only got O pains last cycle so can't help you there. haven't had any pains or symptoms this cycle so who knows what is going on.

Is anyone else sick of the fact our bodies don't come with instruction manuals...??? I read these pages and think about my own experiences and it seems to me we spend most of our time trying to work out what our bodies are doing. A few more flashing lights, knobs and dials would really come in handy. Not happy with the mood you're in? Turn the knob to where it reads "Sweetie Pie"...Dont know if you're ovulating? Just look at the O light and see if it's green yet...Wouldnt that be soooo much better!!!! Of course the moment we conceive there would be a great big flashing light that would let us know (that was somehow secret to the rest of the world). There'd be none of this two week wait crap to have to endure. The POAS business would go bust because each of us wouldnt use 2309127439103741 of them each time in the lead up to AF. lol Ah well, we can only dream.....

I think I am out this month. I am CD 27, 10 dpo. Last cycle I got AF around CD31-32. I have no symptoms except for some mild lower backache. Of course I did a HPT yesterday and got a BFN. I know it was too early to be definite (esp since it was a clear blue digital which arent an early test one) but I couldnt help myself (who of us can?) But I dont feel pregnant so I pretty much know it's not my month :( DH and I have an appointment on Nov 10 with the FS to discuss options (she wants to go straight on to an antagonist IVF cycle given I am old and my "multiple infertility factors") so I guess we need to start thinking about that seriously. Even then, according to their charts it's only a 35 per cent chance I will get UTD. Good news in the Age newspaper today though...my clinic has just introduced a ground breaking technique to help older couples be successful in IVF by identifying the most healthy eggs for implantation (thereby reducing mc risk, etc). The article says -

'For the first time, would-be parents will be offered comprehensive genetic screening allowing eggs and embryos to be tested for the full range of chromosomal disorders.
Until now, clinics could only provide testing for up to 10 of the 23 chromosome pairs. Embryos with unscreened abnormalities often die within days of being implanted back into the patient, with up to 70 per cent containing defects. Melbourne IVF will be the first Australian clinic to use the technique, which doctors say should relieve some of the heartache for those trying to start a family because almost all embryos being implanted should be healthy and therefore have a stronger chance of progressing to a viable pregnancy.'

So I guess that is something...Anyway, I am keenly aware that this has turned into a ME post. Sorry!

Tasha- I must have got lucky with clomid i have no side effects from it. I used to feel when i was O'ing but the last few months i have felt nothing but blood test comform that i am. But i am taking pregnyl shot as well and that makes it so much easier. I hope you dont get any side effects.

nothing2lose-That's really interesting about IVF offering comprehensive genetic screening it gives me hope as well. Dont give up i had no symptons with both my sons i was actually positive i was not pregnant with DS2. There is always hope till AF arrives.

Bec- Do you usually O on day 14 or what day do you usually O? Were your follicles more mature on day 14 with clomid? Are there alot more follies with jabbing or the same as clomid? My DP said he would do a SA if i lost 15kg i'm trying hard so then i can go onto what your doing with the jabbing then home to DTD. Really hoping for big follies for your next scan on Wed. Good luck.

n2l: I hope you are wrong and AF stays away for some time (9 months ought to do it...) and this is your cycle! FX for you. I agree on the flashing lights thing, that would be awesome!

rai: FSH injections produce many more follies which is why you need to be carefully monitored and they withhold prgnyl if you have too many. There is much less chance of this happening with clomid. I never o on CD14, even on clomid so I'm not that surprised. My cycles are rarely less than 35 days, but since I didn't have periods at all without it, I'm cool with that! My FS does SA regardless to rule that out so I reckon it's worth doing even while you are losing the weight. The good thing about doing it now is that many problems with mens swimmers can be fixed with vitamins and meds.

Jules: They aren't too bad are they? I know what you mean about the first one. I stood in my kitchen for about 15 mins putting the needle to my belly and almost passing out! Then I couldn't stop laughing at how stupid I was being! It's all good now.

AFM: I have spent an aweful 24 hours with my DS in hospital. He decided that he would take a flying leap off the trampoline and fell and broke both of the bones in his left forearm. His arm was 40o out of whack. So yesterday he had his first broken bone, first trip in an ambulance, first operation (to correct the break), first anasthetic, first stay in hospital! What a day! He's doing well now, he's not even in too much pain (yet!). Unfortunately that means I didn't do my shot last night, but I hope that will be ok. It was pretty unavoidable really!
So now I'm just waiting for scan on Wednesday and hopefully things will be happening and I can get BIIZZAY...;) with the pregnyl shots that is!

p.s. the new IVF thing is about the fertilised embryos absorbing a glucose solution. They have found that the more glucose an embryo absorbs the more genetically perfect and healthy it is. I read an article in the herald sun on it the other day. I think it's the same thing as what you found rai
