    Pregnancy rate after HSG procedure

Hi I am due to have an HSG ultrasound/xray procedure. Its the one where they insert the dye to check for any blockages. Just wondered if anyone has had this procedure, does it hurt and did anyone fall pregnant after having it? I have been told if they find a blockage that sometimes by them pushing the dye through it can actually unblock you. I have had low progesterone and small cysts on both ovaries but recent ultra sounds showed no cysts. My doctor thinks I might have endometriosis but the specialist says they will do the HSG procedure first before they check for endometriosis. I kind of want them to find something so they can fix me!!! TTC for 2.5 years

    Thanks

    Hey Bella!

I had an HSG done and fell pregnant the next cycle. Unfortunately miscarried that pregnancy but went on to have a successful IVF cycle.

I won't lie to ya, the HSG really did hurt. But I have heard very mixed reports about this and some women are fine. I had loads of good pain relief (drugs maaaannnnnn - pethidine) and that helped somewhat. I had my tubes unblocked also, the dye wasn't enough to push them through - so they fed a little wire thing through. It worked!! (ETA - just reading what MadB has written and yeah, it probably hurt because my tubes were so blocked)

    Good luck

I didn't feel a thing, but my tubes weren't blocked.
Didn't get pregnant either (but obviously the tubes weren't an issue anyway)
    Good luck!

I have had it done and the pain was incredibly severe. Specialist told me the more severe the blcokage is, the more it hurts.

Both my tubes are completely blocked. so, he was right in my case.

    Good luck with it all

    HSG Update

Hi again So I had the HSG done a few weeks ago. I ain't gonna lie it was extremely uncomfortable! I had it done on day 12 of my cycle. They had to re-insert the tube catheter thing a few times as it would not stay in place! That was the most painful. I had taken painkillers like an hour before and they gave me a mild sedative before they started but I still felt it. It was like really intense cramping...I didn't cry though plus the nurse was fantastic and talked me through it, she even held my hand and stroked my hair lol. At first the dye would not go through and they had to get the specialist to come and have a look. He said there seemed to be a resistance in both tubes. He told the other guy to start again and anyway when they put the dye through the second time it went through fine. They said I could have had some mucus in my tubes which is enough to prevent the egg or sperm travelling through. Also there is a high risk of pregnancy over the next few months as basically my tubes got a clean out lol. So anyway I am now on day 31 with no period?!? I have had 26 day cycles for the past 3 months and had the clear cm on days 12 -15 with the feeling I get when I ovulate. I think I must be wrong though because on day 18 I started getting the clear cm again for like 2 days. We didnt do anything before my HSG or a couple of days after it, until like day 16 as hubby was paranoid after me having the HSG, I think he was a bit freaked out lol. I took a hpt yesterday and it was negative and I had a tiny bit of brown cm then when I wiped it was pink. This only happened once and there is nothing today. Has anyone else had a delayed ovulation and period after having the HSG? I am confused! I have been so tired but have not had the other usual pmt signs. Anyway any thoughts would be appreciated
