We have been TTC #2 for just over 12 months now & had a m/c the week i found out i was pg on xmas eve. Already has a referal for a SA so thought we should get it done. I got the results yesterday from my gyno (not an FS) and he said they are alright but didn't really seem to know much in my opinion & also not his area of expertise. Just after any feedback. Will be discussing them with GP later next week as well but here goes:
He kind of said the progressive total was a teeny low and the live sperm/viabilty no great so i think its ok, his count seems high?? He also said a high sperm count can act inadversly, like in a crowded room & trying to get out. With so many, the good ones have a hard time getting through the dead/slow/head butting swimmers!!
Any feedback would be great. Thanks in advance x

The count is high but not the crowded room analogy doesn't really work for me. Imagine dropping one drop of milk into a cup of coffee and ask if the milk molucules are feeling crowded?
GPs tend not to know a lot abotu these things - Dr Google is probably about as useful IMHO but if you are at all worried ask for a referal to a FS and have a chat with them about it.
i have recently joined bb, but have been TTC for 5 years now, 2 years with ivf/icsi. i am sorry to hear about your recent loss, its so hard after waiting longer than most to get that first positive result, to then experience a miscarriage. we have had several SA's and have always been told that there is a great variation from sample to sample, so although the progressives do seem a bit low - the next sample could be better. they are clearly doing something right for you to get pregnant naturally, so that is a great sign.
we noticed an improvement after trying menevit (for husband) and improving diet/reducing alcohol (especially prior to SA collection). his samples have always been 'normal', however we did have one which they think was a false-positive for over 90% antibodies! the next one was under 10% antibodies (which is as low as you can get). we also paid more attention to keeping the sample 'fresh'... with all the drugs, scans etc with ivf, we found that dtd was low on our list of priorities (ok, on my list of priorities!). i realise you are not doing ivf, so i guess dtd is probably more appealing, most of the time...! sorry if this is TMI.
so i guess that is my long winded way of saying - sperm, like our bodies, can be sensitive and perform very different from month to month! goodluck and im sure your sticky one is just around the corner.
Thanks girls, yeah the gyno said to "take the results with a grain of salt" as they can change so much from one to another, but generally i think they are ok, he is taking menevit and has cut down on alcohol dramatically (almost to nothing) since 20th Dec so hopefully the next "fresh" lot thorugh are even better!!
Not tmi at all, hard for DTD to not become a chore after a while when it is to be done "at the right time" etc etc etc.
Andie - fingers crossed you get your bub soon xx
